During rush hour, during school hours. Pretty much anytime unless around 2am, the passenger traffic is s little lighter around that time. The service is pretty good. For the amount of people that ride in on a daily basis, on an hourly basis, it's pretty clean. But it's so not worth being squashed like a sardine can. Actually, I'm pretty sure sardines have more room in their cans than 6 train riders. The second avenue line can not come soon enough!

Someone complained to Yelp that my photos were posted to the wrong page. It's not unusual for a Station to have more than one entrance and exit. This is a cool station because it's above ground. I had no problems when I took the train down to 96th Street. I would definitely use this station again if the need arises. The elevated platform reminds me of the historic train lines I've seen in photos. I hope these two photos are posted correctly. They are two of my favorites. Enjoy

125th Street has an elevated old MTA station. It looks old and pretty cool. Probably the worst…read morething is that trains are local. A long wait is probably going to happen. The good thing is you get a nice view. A lot of elevated stations aren't that interesting, but this has a good view in a cool area. It serves only the 1 Train. There's another station a few blocks away where you can make a transfer. Broadway is the other street here. It makes an important intersection in Harlem at 125th Street. There's a lot of history around this. Close to here is Grant's Tomb, if you're into Civil War and political stuff. If you're into African American culture, then this is the place for you. It's close to Columbia University, a very nerdy smart college that can still be cool. There's a lot of good bars and restaurants. It's also close to CCNY. That's the school that was known for their great basketball team until a scandal. Best of all is looking out from the station and seeing everything. There's a great view of the Hudson River. It can get pretty cold. It's way up there with no roof. This can make for great views.

Interesting that the trains and the MTA are not connected…read more After exploring the New York Botanic Garden in the Bronx I needed to head back to Brooklyn with my hubby and our daughter to meet my nephew for dinner. This was so much faster than a twenty minute walk to another station in the Bronx. Fortunately my daughter has the train app, so she bought three tickets for about $5 a pop and after a short wait, we were on our way. Once we got to Union Square we exited, paid for the MTA and once again, we were on our way. Thinking about fare evasion? Don't do it! The fine for not paying for your ticket could be a whopping $100!!! And if you think that you can just sneak in on the train. Think twice. There was a train conductor that was checking if each passenger had a ticket. IYKYK.

Took the Metro North train to the Botanical Garden for the 1st time and it saved sooo much time…read morethan! Highly recommend over taking the crowded MTA trains and buses or even driving and paying for parking. The train leaves you right across the street the Botanical Garden entrance (Mosholu entrance). Check the train schedule... easy 20 minute ride from Grand Central Station. So convenient that I have learned my lesson and know that I know where the station is and the train schedule, will take the Metro North going to/from Botanical Garden going forward. Station itself wasn't crowded and platform has directions to inform which way trains are headed. Kiosks machines are there to buy your tickets.... The boards inform you when the trains are coming and if delayed... Tip: Get the MTA TrainTime app and purchase tix via mobile... kiosks don't always work and more expensive paying on the train. Just remember to activate ticket before boarding as there is a time limit... Don't stand near the edge of the platform and esp turn away when express trains go by... that whosh of air! Heading back to NY, the Metro North track 4 is where you want to be. Take the overpass bridge to the other side of the tracks.

This is a good stop for exploring Washington Heights and around it. Get off here to find something to eat. It serves the 1 Train. There's many interesting places here to try. It's in the Washington Heights neighborhood. There's many authentic foods to try. Many Dominican and Latino restaurants. There's also lots of chain fast food places if you want regular old junk though. It has a good location, which is the best thing about it. Many places to eat and shop. This is also close to the Hudson River and parks a few blocks west.

We had to run to the track, where we accidentally boarded the wrong train. This was also my fault. Upon our return to the city, there was a large phalanx of extremely fit police officers with their pants tucked into combat boots milling near the entrance. We decided that this was also not a good time to loiter and marvel at the architecture, so we departed expeditiously. The only cabs available outside the station are green ones, which my mother refused to take. They generally operate in the Bronx. But when I finally got a cab through the Curb app, it was...green. Lol. Very nice, clean station, and a very nice employee directed us to the correct track.

My 7th review on the 7th day of the new year has to be for the #7 train. I was going to save this…read morereview for 2027, but it cannot wait another year. The #7 IRT train from Manhattan to Flushing, Queens, you have to love it or hate it. It goes to some of the iconic destinations in NYC, like CitiField, Flushing Meadows Corona Park & Jacob Javits Convention Center. It also connects Times Square with Grand Central Station and more recently, Hudson Yards with the farthest reaches of Queens. It goes through some of the most densely populated areas of the City, so ridership is high (re: packed like sardines in a can). So many memories were made on the 7. I remember as a teenager going to the Mets games at Shea Stadium with my friends or playing ultimate frisbee or football under the Unisphere. And the fare was just 50¢ for a subway token each way! Later as an adult, we would ride to the US Open to watch Pete Sampras or Andre Agassi and the fare would be $1.50 using the Metro-Card. The 7 is not without its ups and downs. Probably 80% of its tracks are elevated with its terminal stops underground and a long stretch going under the East River. The exposed elevated tracks from Sunnyside to Flushing seem to have more than its share of maintenance woes and currently do not stop at 3 station platforms undergoing reconstruction. I remember not too long ago, pieces of the structure like rivets & rusted out steel would fall onto cars along Roosevelt Ave and the MTA had to sling hammock nets under the really corroded sections to catch falling debris. Also on short notice, it will not run into Manhattan, which is a major inconvenience for Queens residents. The MTA is trying new schedules though, with direct express trains for Mets game or the US Open, which benefits Manhattanites mostly. So, if during rush hour you see my face pressed up against the door window, it probably was not by choice, just out of necessity that I had to get somewhere and couldn't wait for the next train. There are plenty of signs at the station that tell you where to wait for that bus and which terminal to go for each airline. FYI, this bus is currently fare-free.

Being a big fan of Chuck Close's artwork, this sleek 86th St. Second Avenue station provides…read moreexceptional large format tile mosaics of his portraits, worthy of a museum. These images employ those photorealism to pixelated techniques he used in his paintings. You may recognize the iconic faces he captured of Philip Glass, Lou Reed, Cindy Sherman, Kara Walker, Alex Katz, Pozsi B. Color, Cecily Brown, his own self-portrait in the center of the mezzanine, plus others. Worth a stop if you want to admire some of the great public art created to make everyone's subway ride more enjoyable. Oh, and this 86th St. 2nd Ave. subway station is also easy to get in and out of too!

If you're getting on in age and/or have mobility limitations, the 86th Street 2nd Avenue stop is a game changer. We recently moved to the neighborhood. The first time I got off at the station I couldn't believe our good luck. Train tracks are way below street level -- I've never seen such a subterranean line -- but a series of steep escalators take you all the way to the top. (I think of the Queens Plaza station where I'm inevitably huffing and puffing with all the steps.) The station is clean. The graphics on the wall are beautiful. (Sorry, no photos. Look at someone else's review.) As it's the second stop going south, you'll likely get a seat. And the officers I've spoken to who monitor the turnstiles are actually friendly! BTW, if you're senior, remember to apply for half-priced fare. (There are some advantages of old age!)
