It's 2025, and Oh Baby! the MTA 7 Subway Train has come a long way with more changes to come. I recall many moons ago when the 7 train was sluggish with so many delays due to traffic signals and repairs. Now, even with repairs at certain stations it's like every 3 minutes there is another train coming after the first one left. The trains are new. Found them to be clean compared to some of the other lines. What I love about the 7 train "International Express Train" for its diverse neighborhood at every station that you get off. It's like an adventure and you are venturing to another country, smell the fragrance and aromas of the food being cooked. Every country that is represented and you find enclave of eateries and shops. It's like a mini United Nations on the 7 Train. -The MTA 7 Train will take you to Citi Field for Mets Game. Get off at Willets Point Station. Also Flushing Meadow Park, and US open as well as other events. -Get off at Main Street- Last stop towards Flushing. Chinatown- Lots of food shopping and dining experience. Don't forget the Sky View Mall-You will see segment of the mall as train heads underground toward Main Street. Just a few descriptions of the stations on the 7 train to whet your appetite. My 7th review on the 7th day of the new year has to be for the #7 train. I was going to save this review for 2027, but it cannot wait another year. The #7 IRT train from Manhattan to Flushing, Queens, you have to love it or hate it. It goes to some of the iconic destinations in NYC, like CitiField, Flushing Meadows Corona Park & Jacob Javits Convention Center. It also connects Times Square with Grand Central Station and more recently, Hudson Yards with the farthest reaches of Queens. It goes through some of the most densely populated areas of the City, so ridership is high (re: packed like sardines in a can). So many memories were made on the 7. I remember as a teenager going to the Mets games at Shea Stadium with my friends or playing ultimate frisbee or football under the Unisphere. And the fare was just 50¢ for a subway token each way! Later as an adult, we would ride to the US Open to watch Pete Sampras or Andre Agassi and the fare would be $1.50 using the Metro-Card. The 7 is not without its ups and downs. Probably 80% of its tracks are elevated with its terminal stops underground and a long stretch going under the East River. The exposed elevated tracks from Sunnyside to Flushing seem to have more than its share of maintenance woes and currently do not stop at 3 station platforms undergoing reconstruction. I remember not too long ago, pieces of the structure like rivets & rusted out steel would fall onto cars along Roosevelt Ave and the MTA had to sling hammock nets under the really corroded sections to catch falling debris. Also on short notice, it will not run into Manhattan, which is a major inconvenience for Queens residents. The MTA is trying new schedules though, with direct express trains for Mets game or the US Open, which benefits Manhattanites mostly. So, if during rush hour you see my face pressed up against the door window, it probably was not by choice, just out of necessity that I had to get somewhere and couldn't wait for the next train. This crucial pipeline to Mets games is like a pitcher who set a strikeout record in AAA and got Rookie of the Year, then because of injuries fell short of Cooperstown predictions but still had a solid career. Raised on E and F trains, I was fascinated by learning about a mostly outdoor line. The 7's destinations are almost as impressive as this year's Riot Fest lineup. If you're reading this as a tourist in Midtown get thee to the 7. (Antitrust law forbids me from using my subway reviews to promote my food writeups but you'll certainly find great options on the review platform of your choice). My "however" turn isn't as harsh as Roger Greenberg's Starbucks letter but the 7, unrivaled when in top form, has many off days. At times it doesn't reach Manhattan (I'm sure there are reasons, presumably not because it admires the indie cred of the Brooklyn-Queens only G train). And there are many closures in the Corona area. Hopefully these shutdowns will lead to a better tomorrow and earn that fifth star. read more

Used this subway route everyday during my recent staycation. I am a lifelong advocate for public transportation use. My general comment is the 7 Subway Train could be better if more people wore masks and seats were more efficiently shared. Eventho masks are no longer required, if Covid hospitalizations are rising, wastewater monitor data dictates or if rider is in high risk environment, more people should be more cautious. read more

I used to take this line more often but over the years I just ended up not using this line as much. My first time on the line in a very long time and it's definitely better. But keep in mind we are talking over 10 years or so. The stops on the train are digital, which a lot but not all, trains have these days. Definitely a great addition. I rode the local this day but it did look like there was an express option which is probably great for those going from Main Street to Manhattan. The stops are marked on the stop map as well which is also great. It wasn't packed at all when I rode it but it was not rush hour and I was going against traffic. But the other side looked very very busy which I do remember from years ago ha. One of the better subways I think. read more

Three Stars because I never take this train very often. It is notorious for being slow. I feel bad for daily commuters. My friend that lives in Flushing took it daily to work for years. It is a long trip. She was mugged a couple times too! It's fine to and from Citi Field. I haven't had a problem other than having to stand. Today we got the super express from the field back to Manhattan. We were home in no time. They make special trips for METS games and for special events. Dear Number 7 Train, What happened to your glory days when you have once received high marks on the ridership report card? You now have brand new car models yet service has somewhat declined. I don't understand the long periods of parking as your body just sits at a station with passengers when the doors are open which the cold creeps in. Ongoing construction is never ending. This is one of those situations where I hate to be in NY. We came to this station to get a MetroCard so we can take the bus to get around the town. Since I don't have already have a MetroCard, I need to buy a new card from the ticket window. Normally if you already have a MetroCard, you can just use the machine and add money in the card Since I didnt, I had to wait in line for a long time. You'd think when the line started to get pretty long, the person behind the window would try to speed up and get the line moving....WRONG! Not only the person behind the window was taking her time, she was very rude! I saw a couple of old ladies try to ask her questions, and instead of helping them, she got mad and start giving them an attitude. Yes, sometimes the customers can get very demanding, but if you work in the service industry, this is what you are paid to do. And you certainly don't have to be rude to a couple of elderly ladies who were just trying to take the subway. Are all NY transit workers are like that? I'd hope not. But I wish the city could offer sensitivity lessons to their employees. And it'd also help if they start cleaning up the stations. read more

Take the scenic route into Manhattan! This train sure takes its time. I didn't notice whether there's any way to tell the difference between the express train and the local. Reading the reviews on this train, it doesn't seem like there is any. The stations were dirty, with cracked tiles, and signs alerting you to watch for rat poison on the tracks. Try not to eat any. But this train does take you into the city, past a large stadium, lots of tall buildings, and some marshy swap land. I felt so international while riding this train, there's people reading newspapers in Chinese, Korean, and all kinds of foreign languages. It was a long, leisurely ride on the #7. I suggest you ride this when you want to be Fashionably Late, or have several dozen of those New York minutes to spare. read more

Not very fond of this train. The 7 seems to run mostly local and the 7 express is only in the morning and evening during commuting hours. It's probably the best and cheapest way to get to Flushing from Manhattan and vice versa but makes frequent stops and is quite slow. There is a view of Queens' neighborhood rooftops as the train goes by, but nothing really interesting. read more

The 7 train is owned and operated by the lovely and effervescent folks over at the MTA. If there isn't a train delay, switch or signal problem, police activity at another 7 stop, heavy snowfall, torrential downpour, a hurricaney hurricane, someone jumping onto the tracks, someone popping a bun out of the oven, "Fast Track" construction, train traffic, a holiday (seriously ANY holiday or a Sunday - DAMNIT SUNDAYS!!!), free Dunkin Donut munchkins in the MTA staff recreational room or a swarm of killer bees then it will be running smoothly, on schedule and with very few interruptions. Clearly. If I'm in Manhattan and am lucky enough to be close to a 7 station then this sucker takes me straight to my hood and leaves me only a few short blocks away from home sweet home - so I'm biased and to be frank, the 7 train is still light years more reliable then some other trains (*glares at the F, N, L and G trains*) and it (as the MTA loves to spew) "gets me to where I have to go". Red light trains are express and green light ones are local - mix them up and you're potentially screwed if there isn't a way to simply cross the platform and take the 7 going in the opposite direction. If you are confused then ask someone - most people don't bite and confirming a train stop is how my life totally improved for the better. Trains with a RED DIAMOND around the 7 are EXPRESS and trains with a GREEN CIRCLE make LOCAL stops - You're welcome and happy travelling! :) read more

Great way to get to the Mets game and from Flushing to NYC. You may get squeezed like a sardine but it's worth it

I used to be an N train rider from the Queens side. The passengers are usually courteous and filled with yuppies. The frequency was had longer intervals but was usually on time. And then I switched to the 7. - Packed like crazy going to Manhattan in the mornings, going to Queens in the evenings. - Rude pushers and running seat-hoggers. - Ladies with baby carriages that love to park right in front of the door. - Riders that don't like to move into the car and crowd at the doors. - That crazy masturbator that holds up a car trying to shoot at normal passengers. (I wonder if they ever caught him) - A train departing every 2 minutes. - Random crazy train issues (signal problems usually). - Mexican band music! - That happy conductor that ends your ride with a proverb. I have a love and hate relationship with the 7 line but it's the only train that I can connect to from my bus. There are always really bad issues with this train in the am when I am going to work and pm when I am heading home. Sucks for me that Main St. is my stop to get off and the 7 express is reliable at times. I really hope the new improvements are good especially towards the services. read more

I will give the 7 train 4 stars because it doesn't even run around where I live, but it has such great service it deserves four stars at least. The 7 train has really stepped up it's game from not working every weekend, to being one of the funnest train rides and cultural ones in the borough of Queens. this is the fastest train service, in a matter of a minute on weekday mornings their is always a 7 trains at the station. The train is always clean, always has seats unless it's like during rush hours, and the ride is quick. Their is both local and express services running constantly. It runs from the hassle of time square to the spanish and asian fusion in queens all rolled into one. The graffiti is a lot nicer then other train rides, and back when it had 5 pointz before reaching court square or after leaving court square was one of the best sights. I have a loooong love/hate relationship with the 7 train. It's one of the heaviest used lines in the city. Rush hour is absolutely miserable. Pushing, shoving, unwanted groping... Wanted groping. Because it's such a busy line, the MTA finally increased rush hour service to 10 pm back in 1999. Much later than any other line in NYC. But it is still one of the few subway lines where you'll see "standing room only" crowds at 1 am. The coolest thing about the 7 is the special Express service from Manhattan to the Mets Stadium (I refuse to call it Citi Field, dammit). It's faster than any cab could ever go. Bam! Right to the stadium for a measly 2 bits 50. And once the 7 train Extension is completed (projected date - June 2014), we will have direct access to Jacob Javits Center as well. The seemingly never ending infrastructure work that has been done on the 7 will be worth it. After 20 friggin' years, it better be. My main gripe continues to be the massive confusion in Times Square when it comes to the difference between the Local and the Express. MTA in all it's "wisdom" replaced the old Redbird cars with shiny aluminium ones... but without the available but much more expensive, electronic signs. The turn-around was so fast on the line that the motorman and conductor were never able to do that old school, car-to-car sign change. If you remember that... you are officially old. They did FINALLY retrofit the signs with colored lights, but it was a patch job at best, and still confuses tourists and residents alike. That said, I still get a kick out of tourists asking which direction the train is going in at Times Square. Once it's no longer the terminal, will it be as quaint??? Nope... just annoying. Oh, and I detest that the seats aren't bench seats. Whose dumbass design idea was that?!? Those damned scoops were not designed for my fat ass. Last thing.... Screw you John Rocker. read more

To me by far the best train ever ! From the old school red trains to now the silver bullets. Just a couple months ago i saw the new upgraded 7 train with the talking operator, Just like the 4 5 & 6 trains. Just happen to see that train twice though, I wonder why the 7 train doesnt stay updated. The 7 Line may be one of the most congested lines behind the 6 train, yet those who ride it essentially have little alternatives as it passes through areas where no other trains go. NYC is already diverse as it is, but this line seems to be the most diverse of them all as Queens is a hot bed of ethnic communities / neighborhoods (#1). Thank goodness there is an express for this train because from Times Square to Flushing can be an eternity at times. Work is always being done on this train and often times construction leads to delays and random skipped stops. Similar to the 6 train, given the little alternatives local residents have when the trains go down (other than the bus), the 7 train is one of the most frequently run trains day and night. Each of the trains are worn and dated, its time they added newer trains to this line. I want to vomit every time I step into the 7 train, even if it doesn't smell. Of all the trains, I despise the 7 the most. Why do you ask? Extreme delays/"signal problems" Stops in the middle of 33rd and Queensboro, it's like being stuck in an ocean for months. Pervy guys who make nasty-flirty faces at you or your assets. *Hurl* Rude passengers who will bump into you or push you without an apology. People with staring issues. Even the middle-aged women. You know who you are. Creeps me out. Trains skipping stations without reasoning/further announcement. Very odd people. And why are there so many express trains at 1 PM? It's not rush hour. The WORST times to be on this line is after 9 PM...you'll thank me for ever taking the Q32, for those of us who live from Queensboro Plaza to 82nd Street stations. I'd rate the 7 as a solid 6.5, meaning it's much more attractive when you've been drinking at a Mets game (to forget the awful baseball you likely just saw) and it can take you express back into Manhattan. But at the same time you wouldn't be embarassed to ride it in front of your friends. I've been riding this train for years in Flushing. This train is vital for all my food quests because if it does not run, then I'm screwed and hungry. No one wants me hangry. I don't want me hangry. Like any MTA train, there are delays and signal malfunctions but I honestly give them lee way since it is an above ground train and prone to the elements. Over the years there has been a handful of incidents where I couldn't get home because the 7 train wasn't running after a certain point due to inclement weather. Mostly blizzards. Freaking Mother Nature ya'll. Why would I give this 4 stars? In comparison to the other MTA trains, the 7 train is one of the few highlights in the MTA. The 7 train, we've had good and bad times together. We've gone to the far reaches of the city to cure my cravings of doughnuts, ice cream, and practically everything else. You've tested my patience with all the weirdos who somehow flock to sit next to me despite there being so many empty seats in the subway cart. Stupid weirdos. I hardly ever take the 7 train unless I'm heading to a Mets game. If I'm going to flushing for food or what not, I would normally drive, yes I know.. Spoiled. What you can expect from riding the 7 train is a lot of loud Asian and Spanish people on their phones. Since the ride is above ground in queens, many people will be on their cells and screaming in your ear. Another thing to expect would be the panhandling bums and Mexican performers with their guitars. Doesn't seem to matter what time you take the train either because it seems to be at full capacity all day and night. If you're lucky enough to grab a seat, expect 10 people hovering over you and reading your newspaper with you. If you're not lucky enough to grab a seat, my tip is to watch your pockets. You'll be squeezed in between a dozen other pissed off riders and very prone to pick pocket and gropings. Not that I personally ever been groped before.. At least not that I know of. Other than your riding comfort and safety being compromised, you do usually end up at your destination... if you make it out alive that is.. read more

THe 7 train is kind of the worst. I don't use it that often and when I do I never get where I wanna be fast enough. I don't usually mind just going to 74th and Broadway just to get some food though. Also in the weekday, during 5:30 to maybe 8pm it is way too crowded going to Queens. Packed like sardines definitely applies here. Tome when it goes express stops, still doesn't help, when it goes local does not help really either. Yeah it sucks, I never could get to Mets games fast enough, no matter what time it was. I like that you can get phone reception on parts of the line since it's outdoors but we could be doing a LOT more for winter prep. Every single winter they have the same problems. How many times must we go through this before doing some freaking preparation (as Tom T. mentioned before)? I also don't like that it always seems to be closed on some part of the route every time you turn around (Court Square stop in particular). The dependability of this train could also use some work & I'd like that expansion project to move a little faster. This is the only train to get to some parts of Queens so the MTA needs to make it much more accessible on the weekends. It useto be the best train in the city. This is the best train from April to October during daytime hours on the weekdays. Trains are fast and comes often and you get a great view of queens. Outside of those time frame, its just horrible. Service changes and construction pretty much every weekend to the point it's not worth going out. Construction for the last 3 years or by nyc standards forever. Service drops off by a huge amount after 9pm. C'mon mta, people work late or just finishing off happy hour. Its unbearable cold in the other months since most of the stations are above ground. The 7 line needs to be upgraded. Some of the station are crumbling. Why is there no estimate time of arriving train on Junction blvd, queensboro plaza, 74th street and woodside. It would solve thousands of commuter headache of guessing when trains are coming. I often take this train to Queensboro Plaza when leaving Manhattan. It's usually quick and reliable, for that short trip. In Queens, it travels through some of the major neighborhoods in Queens: Long Island City, Woodside/Sunnyside, Corona, and Flushing, as well as some major places: Hudson Yards/the beginning of the High Line, Times Square, Grand Central, MoMA PS1/Court Square, and Citi Field/Flushing Meadows Park. Personally, I've always associated the 7 train with pleasant things. Despite the crowd, it can be fun to ride the train to Mets games. My friends who ride the 7 train daily have another view. Recently, I've had to ride to Main St., the final (or first) stop in Queens. I'm starting to see my friends' point. The train can be excruciatingly slow, especially if you are on the local or riding at a non-peak time. There is constant construction, including some weekends when there is no service to Manhattan. I've spent time stuck between stations. On the positive side, the 7 train is above ground in Queens, and there are some good views, not just of Manhattan, but of some neighborhoods, Flushing Meadows Park, and, believe it to not, the highways and LIRR tracks (I've taken some nice photos). And, for good or bad, it's the only train that serves some neighborhoods in Queens and Manhattan. read more
