I know my way around the glue gun and a Silhouette machine but not a palette of watercolors or charcoal pencils. This was the perfect class! I got to create something without any real preconceived idea of how it "had" to look and for me, that was refreshing! Rhonda was informative and patient in explaining why were doing things a certain way and she left the artistic part up to me. She covered all the different materials she commonly uses. I appreciated all the recommendations and useful info on the materials. I feel confident I could create another geode all in my own now. Truly a relaxing process and a great self-care experience. Going to try to make it a girls night next time!

I was immediately greeted and welcomed into the store, even though there were several people being assisted. There are several local vendors selling items in The Foyer, and each area has a different theme or flavor. The local artists on display are phenomenal. You can find something in all price ranges and styles as well. I found some special pieces for my mom and a gift for a student at LSU. I can't wait to go back after the holidays and shop for my house! The store is clean and easy to get around in. While sometimes the popular stalls may get a little cramped, everyone is respecting distance. Also, the numerous times I was offered assistance was great. I even saw one employee search through several ornaments to help one patron find an obscure item she thought might be there. Lucky for her, it was! I didn't get to go to the cafe this time (Heather V's), but i guarantee I will be back for some delicious sandwich or salad very soon!

I was originally here to meet some friends at Heather V's Cafe (located in the back of the gallery), just wish I had more time to shop! It was lovely to see that within the gallery there were individual "boutiques" sectioned off, which I thought added more character to the place! You could literally go into one "boutique" and find everything you needed to decorate your home or a section of your home with. I look forward to my next visit, when I can browse longer and shop for some home items or fun gifts!

Her oils on cradled board featured landscapes, roadscapes and still lifes of tootsie pops, origami, flowers and goodwill clothing shops. Her style is accessible and accomplished. Her paintings leave you wanting more. I almost imagined today upon entering that I could smell the oil paint drying! How delicious to smell an art gallery exhibit.

There's a lot more here than you'd think, with a solid variety of exhibits that make it worth spending some time exploring. It's also very inexpensive, which makes it an easy add to your itinerary. Even better, students get in for free, which is a huge plus. I believe they also offer free admission on certain days (though I'm not exactly sure when), which makes it even more accessible. Overall, a great, low-key museum that's definitely worth checking out - especially if you're already in the area. A hidden gem in Baton Rouge.

The student worker at the desk was very helpful. There is lots to do and see within the Shaw Center and surrounding downtown Baton Rouge. The gift shop below was also wonderful and not too expensive. The displays were well thought out and had lots of sitting areas throughout for observations or breaks. They offer first Sundays of the month for free with some kind of free engaging event to go along.
