I went to Mud Matters on Valentine's Day with my girlfriend to take a hand building class. We got a nice little lesson on how to make our pieces then they helped us throughout the class to make sure we were able to complete our pieces. Finally they were glazed and after a few weeks we were able to pick up the candle holder and mug we made.

Such a fun and worthwhile activity. Booking was super smooth, they were very responsive over email and it was easy to reserve a slot. I also love that they have multiple locations including 34th Street, Broadway (Brooklyn), and Montclair, NJ. Julian (JuJu) was an amazing instructor! Super outgoing, patient, and made the class such a fun experience from start to finish. I really appreciated how thorough he was when explaining each step, along with all the helpful tips and tricks throughout the class. We made tote bags, which are perfect for spring/summer, and I was so impressed with how they came out! I'll absolutely be back to try more courses. Highly recommend if you're looking for a cute solo activity or something fun to do with a friend!

Viola was a terrific instructor who was patient and kind with everyone at every stage of our projects. She made everything easy to digest, and made sure to make herself available for additional demonstrations if necessary (and it was, because for the life of me, I could never remember how to thread the machine). Viola was always encouraging during the projects even if mistakes were made and was always ready to help when we needed. This is a must-do class for a beginner sewist, and I cannot wait to use the skills I learned in my sewing journey going forward. NYSC and Viola are the best!

Most of the instructors were wonderful, offering guidance when I asked and space when I needed it. It is very reasonably priced and remains a true NYC institution. The only instructor I would caution against is Pat Lipsky. I found her conceited and negative, even spiteful at times. If your aesthetics do not align with Immanuel Kant or Clement Greenberg, you may not feel welcome in her class. After she asked me to help set up her studio for a visiting curator, I left the class. From that point on, she refused to acknowledge me when we crossed paths. Still, the overall experience was deeply meaningful. I am grateful for the time I spent here and the ways it shaped my work and friendships.

Passed by this on my way from Columbus circle, and I plan on coming back to try an art class. They have evening and part time schedule of classes, from figure drawing, sculpting, painting, illustration, so there are a lot of options to choose from. Nice historical looking building from the outside.

The ball group taught me the acting is just doing and not acting. I would recommend for everyone that is beginner that doesn't know where to start to go to the barrow group. I did the online classes because I did not live in New York, but I'm pretty sure whether you're online or in person you'll have an amazing experience and will continue to take classes from the Borrow group! Kate Neuman was an angel, and someone who really got into the details of each scene. She used props and scene settings very astutely, making sure that all of our scenes were in context, rather than just dictated to the audience in a forced manner. My only caveat has to do with the introduction and physical coordination exercises in the beginning. They were so attention-grabbing and helpful that I wished that the rest of the class had more of the physical education commitment (rather than just scene study).
