Stopped in here briefly while visiting Charlottesville in June. We ordered a coffee and sat outside to wait for the shops to open and enjoy the beautiful morning. There are plenty of seating options inside and a few tables outside. Ordering was easy and the baristas behind the counter were very pleasant. I love when barista's take the time and care to create beautiful designs in the foam, as you can see from the photo. All in all, it was a good experience and the coffee was tasty. wow, what a disappointing experience. i've been to a handful of specialty coffee shops, and i probably received the worst customer service here. barista barely said 3 words to me during the order and seemed annoyed the whole time. i was not rude or obnoxious. simply ordered an decaf iced cortado. place still seems to be noticeably dirty. on the bright side, they carry the best decaf espresso i have ever had. was pulled beautifully. will definitely return simply for the coffee. read more

This is a cute and cozy coffee spot in the town of Crozet. Loved the ambiance, particularly the high ceilings. People play chess on the many tables, and the big windows let in a lot of light. It's a nice, cool spot on a hot summer day. Their coffee is pretty darn good. Lattes well balanced, cappucinos nice a light and frothy and the coffee never burned. I do wish they'd warm up their treats--their croissants would taste a lot better with just a bit of heat, but still, good portion sizes and not too crazily priced. I also like that you can work here for a bit and nod be bothered. Internet is free and good and the bathrooms are clean. There's pretty art on the walls and if you're so inclined, a nice little art gallery around the corner if you want to see more. Overall, really great little neighborhood coffee shop! read more

The coffee here is exceptional, but our visit to the Downtown Mall location was ruined by a dozen or more full-time laptop users taking over every table and seat. With nowhere to sit, the atmosphere felt unwelcoming, and the Wi-Fi squatting made it hard to enjoy the experience. By the time we left, the place felt more like a shared workspace than a coffee shop. If the Wi-Fi squatters are in charge, stick to takeaway--some management balance would go a long way. read more

If I studied at UVA, this would be my go-to spot every day. The smell is what drags you in and the taste is what keeps you coming back... I first ordered their apple latte; however, they took it off because apple cider did not mix with the coffee, and they are trying to improve the recipe better. It is rather aspiring to see a business such as Mudhouse that makes it their priority to market the best of the best. Changing my order, I went with the maple and my mom got their basic Pumpkin Spice latte and we were both extremely pleased. I ordered an iced latte with almond milk. I ordered the larger 16 oz size and didn't realize that just meant more milk and the same # of espresso shots as the 12 oz. When my order was ready, I tasted it and it was way too milky. I told them I was unhappy with it and they graciously added a couple extra shots of espresso to my drink. Unfortunately, that made it far too bitter. Maybe their specialty lattes are better. Not a winner for me that day but giving it a decent rating because their customer service was great and they were friendly. Mudhouse Coffee Roaster is conveniently located on the historic E. Main Street. We visited close to the holidays and they had a decent selection of specials apart from the normal fare of espressos, cappuccinos etc. We had Cappuccinos and Croissants -- both hitting the mark. Mudhouse (downtown mall location) is a nice coffee shop chain. Their mint mocha was nice - the mint was subtle and did not overpower the coffee or chocolate. The foam was great but there might have been a little too much more my preference, and the cute design in the foam really sealed the deal. Their classic brew had a nice medium flavor, not too dark or burnt and not watery like hotel or insta coffee. The chai was good, not bad, but not exceptional either. Came in here for breakfast and grabbed a matcha latte and a breakfast burrito in this cute little coffee shop in the little downtown strip. The breakfast burrito was soggy and leaked juice which appeared it was microwaved. The matcha latte was tasty but lacked some sweetness. My friend got the nitro coffee. He said it was just alright. It came in a beautiful goblet looking cup. The prices were reasonable. I loved the decor which has a spacious wooden seating. The atompshere, is very relaxing and chill. During my experience, customer service is good; chill, helpful, and kind. The Ginger Vegan Slice is a decent snack which has a somewhat dry-rough texture offering a dull flavor teetering between bitter and sweet (a different combination which I appreciate though imagine may be nice with a good tea and/or other hot beverage). In an area with lots of coffee options, Mudhouse is a true standout. With fresh beans roasted in-house, there is clearly a commitment to quality to excellence and quality. The baristas here were very friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. I ordered a large black coffee, which was prepared very well. Some sweet, fruity notes to it. Not burnt or bitter. If you're a college student this would be a great place to study. A lot of the customers were students studying for finals. I was honestly underwhelmed by Mudhouse. I've had standard coffee orders here before - mochas, lattes, etc. - and I always thought they were decent but never craved to return. I usually am an adventurous coffee drinker, but their coffee specials have just never impressed me. Firstly they are pricey, I paid ~$7-8 for a medium that was very small. The drink was a Lavender-Sage Latte and I was psyched as a lover of lavender. Unfortunately it was just disjointed, and the flavors just didn't come together. I have had similar experiences with some of their other special drinks. Overall, this is a cute coffee house with a great vibe. I would steer from any special drink you aren't 100% certain on, but I do enjoy the classics here. read more

People who love Starbucks will always complain about those who roast with passion to share the joys of every subtle complex note with their fellow coffee lovers... that costs money... There is a reason why Venti Pike place drinkers will downgrade this place... their addiction is to caffeine and NOT good coffee... I am blown away by the freshness and type of beans that are offered here. It is refreshing to speak to baristas who actually know the terms that differentiate amazing coffee from acceptable... they spoke of single origin, elevation of trees, washed vs natural process... even their pour over process was meticulous... The coffee is great, but don't expect low prices or a gigantic menu. It's small, loud, and always crowded, so if you're looking for a COVID-19 friendly place to chill or get work done, then I don't recommend this place. This place is hands down my favorite coffee shop in Charlottesville! Maybe I'm biased because I am a proud Hoo and Alum, but I tell all of my friends who are visiting Charlottesville, to make sure to hit up this spot while they are in town. The service is impeccable and it's a great place to do work or have a chat in historic downtown Charlottesville. I usually get the mocha during the holiday season, I would highly recommend. It's got an amazing chocolatey flavor which I believe comes from using Chocolate milk instead of a chocolate syrup. A mocha like no other! I got the pumpkin chai latte with oat milk. I forgot to ask for it to be dirty (shot of espresso) so my drink was expensive for a non-coffee drink but the flavor was really good! Good music, ambiance was decent. I like walking along the pedestrian mall, so the location is good too and the baristas were very friendly.
