A very disregarded area of an automobile is the undercarriage. In particular - mufflers, tailpipes, catalytic converters, headers, hangers, brake lines, or anything exhaust related. It's one those things that you don't know you have a problem until you 1) hear it or 2) see it on the ground or 3) recognize somebody stole it (more on this later). Either way, the pros at Muffler King got you covered end to end. My reason for needing Muffler King was due to some as*hole attempting to steal my catalytic converter. I guess their sawzall or grinder ran out of battery power and they bolted. Apparently, catalytic converters are worth a pretty penny - well the precious metals inside it are. They're manufactured with rhodium, palladium, and platinum as they are a catalyst for breaking down hydrocarbons, NOx gases, and carbon monoxide which are all exhaust products of burning gas. Anyway, unbeknownst to me, I had been driving around with the damn catalytic converter hanging by a rat terd piece of weld. Finally I hit a speed bump and my car started sounding like an infinite elephant fart. I circled back around near the speed bump and saw my catalytic converter on the ground like it pulled a hamstring or an ACL or something. I let converter cool down and then scooped it up for reattachment later. Well Muffler King set me straight. They advised me to get a new converter but then they said it was a one month lead time on it. So I opted to reapply the old one which they did at no cost since I got some other undercarriage work done (new hangers, new pipe between muffler and converter, and cleaning). I highly recommend Muffler King AND booby trapping your car for catalytic converter thieves. read more

I found an honest mechanic in Atlanta! And one who takes the time to explain things. Big shout out to Marvin and Pablo at Muffler King on Moreland Ave. I have an old KIA sportage 2006. Transmission started acting up driving from Daytona to Atlanta. We thought we had fixed issues before embarking on the trip by replacing the speed sensors. Worked like a charm for about 100 miles, then suddenly didn't. Don't know anyone in town so just went to first shop closest to Autozone. Marvin and Pablo attended to me. They did not trust the Autozone's diagnosis and wanted to do a deeper diagnosis, for which they would charge me $85. That sounded fair, and I left the car there. Next day Pablo called me with bad news. I went to see him in person. There, in much detail, he explained what he believed was wrong with the car. Bottom line it was not the sensors, nor the transmission fluid or filter. He said we'd have to put in a new transmission (or a used one) but did not recommend doing so. He'd also detected some problems with the engine misfiring. He would charge me around $300 to replace any used transmission I found, but again, thought the resale value of the car did not warrant that. He refused to take any money for the diagnosis, nor for his time. He was just sorry he could not give me better news. He said if I disagreed with his view of the engine's condition and wanted to replace the transmission anyway, he'd be happy to do so. I really appreciate his honesty and the time he took to explain things to me. I will use this mechanic again when I'm in Atlanta. ps. I'm stubborn and probably will put a rebuilt transmission in there. I think I can get another100k out of the engine. Car, if fixed may only have a resale value of around $1500, but if it gets me around for another year or two I prefer that over $400-500 in new car payments and higher insurance costs. My mechanic in Daytona thinks cars, with proper maintenance, are eternal. His own has 400k miles on it. read more

I needed a Catalytic Converter shield installed on my '08 Prius because we've had a series of thefts in my neighborhood; dealership quoted me $750 and 7 hours to get it installed but on the rec of a neighbor I came to the Moreland Muffler King instead; they did it for $200 in about an hour. Not only that, they sent me to Ace to get different, hardier rivets so it would make it more sturdy and easier for future service. Would DEFINITELY recommend. When I went back for the 3rd time the manager told me he could not fix but wouldn't give my money back! I threatened to call the police and that is when he decided to refund my money! Brought in my car and my own axle back for an axle back install the other day. They quoted me for the service and then while installing, it was realized that the axle back system I brought in was defective and did not properly fit my car. Without charging me extra, they cut up the axle back and welded it to custom fit my vehicle. The fitment turned out great. The owner and the workers were all really helpful and kind. I thought my vehicle needed, perhaps a clamp for the muffler or exhaust because I was hearing a rattling sound. They took my vehicle into the bay. Assessed the vehicle and found nothing and we're honest enough to tell me that, instead of some other places that I feel would've tried to cheat me into repair that I truly didn't need. This place is great. Now I've been meaning to review this place for a a while now. Its a great car repair place. We needed catalytic converters replaced the first time we came and David (runs the shop) was so great. He explained that the reason why we kept hearing a ticking noise while we were driving was because of bad catalytic converters. He told us the cost and it was a fair price. They had our car ready on the exact date given and I really appreciate that considering how some of these places tell you it'll be ready on a certain day and then call you and tell you a whole other day and waste your time. Terrible service and no accountability. They replaced my clutch after a month but some how screwed up my RPM gauge. When they finally agreed to fix the RPMs they gave it back to me but now the steering wheel is loose. My mechanic recommended them for muffler service on my VW 2 years ago and that worked out well. So I returned for exhaust system replacement on my old Ford Explorer last week and that was even better! They realized that since it no longer requires emission testing [being past 25 years old], the catalytic converter could be removed rather than risk possible engine damage when it goes bad.
