I got a screw in my tire and stopped by last minute at 4:30 one afternoon. I expected to have to leave my car and pick it up the next day, knowing I was close to closing time. My regular mechanic had just replaced the starter in my vehicle and that very same evening, I had issues getting it started again. Since he was leaving town for 6 weeks the very next day, someone recommended MCS. I took my vehicle in to get the alternator checked since my regular mechanic had diagnosed this as the probable issue. This was explained to MCS when I dropped the car off. MCS replaced the battery and never checked the alternator. Two days later I found myself stranded at the Publix in Madison Yards. All MCS had to do was a diagnostic on the alternator like I had asked them to but I guess they were just too busy to bother. Called a mobile mechanic who fixed my vehicle and left me a record of completed diagnostics on the new alternator to confirm issue was fixed. Why couldn't MCS just done what I asked them to in the first place? read more

About 2 weeks ago my car started making a strange sound. I knew of Motor City South from a friend but I'd never been. I found out their hours and went to stand in line on a Tuesday morning before they opened. I was second in line at 7:30. By 7:55 there were 12-15 people in line behind me. They took my keys and information and said they'd call when they had an idea of what was wrong. I stopped by at 4:30pm that day and they said they were about to call me. There was an issue with the cv axels in my car. They didn't even charge me to look at the car (YMMV there). They said they'd figure out a quote to do the repair but that the car was mine to take right then since I was on foot. They texted the next day saying that the car needed cv axels on both sides and they gave me a price out the door. I said to go ahead and order the parts. I was in line again the next day. This time I was first in line and by the time they opened there were about 10 people behind me. Moral of the story here - Tuesdays are busy because that's their first open day of the week. By 11am that day, my car was fixed. They charged exactly the quoted amount and I haven't had any issues since. I'd recommend this place to anyone in the area. As long as you're ok with a "stand in line" type of situation instead of making a reservation, this is easily the best/most honest mechanic in the area. read more

Timely, reliable and trustworthy shop. I needed new brakes and two new tires. Mike provided a detailed estimate and kept me updated with the progress of the work on my car, especially when my tires needed to be ordered because my car needed a slightly less common size. When I got home from dropping off my car I realized I was missing my credit card and figured it may have fallen out into my car somewhere. I monitored my account while my car was in the shop and planned to look for the card when I got my car back before determining if I needed to cancel it. I got my car back with the work done as promised and found my missing credit card in the center console, tucked away for safe keeping by someone from the shop who found it (as I know I didn't put it there). If you are a young woman, I would avoid this place at all costs. I visited Motor City South this past Wednesday because I needed to have my front tires and a wiper guard replaced. I showed up early and waited in line like everyone else and then let the check-in guy know what I needed. He started saying, "You know we're really backed up from yesterday. Could you come back tomorrow?" I thought this was bizarre because he didn't say that to the people in front of me (they were men and I could hear the conversations because he was projecting) so I told him my dad was concerned due to metal on the tire showing. I guess he changed his mind because then he said he'd go outside and measure my tires and then text me with a quote. I went next door to Bellwood Coffee and waited. Since this was a work day, I had to head to the office for meetings. I figured I'd check to see if the quote was ready. Upon asking about the quote, the guy who I'd spoken to before cut me off and said "Did you get a text?" I said no, and he said "Well it isn't ready then. I'll let you know when we have a quote." I thought it was kind of rude, but I figured it was early in the morning so I just let it slide. I ended up getting a quote for $698.89, which surprised me because I only asked about 2 tires and a wiper guard. After my meetings, I headed back to pick my car up. I approached the window and there was a new guy. I told him I wasn't interested due to the quote and asked for my keys. He walked away and talked to his coworker for like 5 or so minutes (which I could see because the window is made of glass) then finally came back to give me my keys. He didn't greet me or anything, just said "Yeah, so the diagnostics gonna be $25." I said, "what?" because that wasn't discussed with me beforehand. He stormed away, handed my keys to someone else, and had the other person approach the window. At this point, I'm taken aback because what just happened? It's like he told the new guy I was being difficult (which I wasn't) because he started explaining things in rapid fire and I was like "Wait, I wasn't disagreeing with the guy before you. I asked 'what' because I wasn't clear on why I was being charged for a diagnostic." He replied and said the guy must have taken it the wrong way and I agreed. I told him that I wasn't interested in the quote because $698.89 for 2 tires seemed a little expensive. He was confused because he didn't know I only needed 2 tires (which led me to believe no one on the team was listening to my initial request). He gave me a new quote and that was it. I left. I'm not sure if it is because I'm young or because I'm a woman, but this place could surely use a tune up when it comes to customer service. I was cut off and walked away from several times in the short span that I was present. That isn't a way to treat your customers. I wish I could give 0 stars, but I am giving 1 only because of the final person who helped check me out. I wish I knew his name to thank him. I will never be back and I plan on telling all my friends to steer clear as well. read more

I've had a lot of work done at this garage - as Armor Tire and now as Motor City South. Recently, I was driving my car to SC and the radiator exploded. Luckily, Motor City South is open until 3:00 on Saturdays and agreed to accept my car as a tow-in to keep over the weekend. This freed me up to rent a car and continue on a much-needed vacation. I received texts regarding what was wrong with my car along with an estimated cost and my car was ready for pick up when I arrived home on Tuesday afternoon. It's been a week and all is well with my car and I was able to get the break I needed. Don't be put off by how brusque some of the guys can be. Not everyone is going to smile in your face to get your business. And sometimes when I stop here smiling isn't something I'm interested in either. When we had car problems, they fit us in same day for diagnostics and got back to us with results by the next morning. We needed a complicated repair and they were honest enough to recognize that it was beyond their capabilities. Since they couldn't fix it, they didn't charge us for the diagnostics and they were nice enough to let us leave our car there for a couple extra days (we had left town after dropping off the car). I called before 10am and he text me around 2:45 to say the tire was there and I could come by any time to get it put on. I need to get my ignition coils changed on my F150. I called ahead and the guy told me to get to the shop early b/c they operate on a first come, first service basis and are very popular. Showed up at 7:30am, I was the second person in line, and by 8am, there were over a dozen people in line. The work was complete later that day and the cost was about half of what I was quoted by a chain shop in the suburbs. Not often that I serve up a five star review, but these cats are absolutely amazing working magic on my 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee. I usually get Mike because Jeep and Mopar engines are his thing. Yes, sometimes it would seem that these guys are a bit gruff - but come on, day in day out they are dealing with harried people who have in someway lost their means of transportation - 6 days a week - 52 weeks a year. They are everything you want your mechanic to be: honest, reasonable prices and extremely experienced. They will tell you straight up if they cannot work on your car and with their small area to store cars, they do not want your car any longer than necessary. I trust them explicitly with my 20 year old vehicle and would recommend them to anyone experiencing the frustration of a broke down vehicle. My last repair with them, while it was expensive, still only cost me a small fraction of what the dealership would have overcharged me for and in less than 24 hours - on a Saturday. Yeah, these guys are all gold, very thankful to have them open, doing business and taking care of my old car. read more

Ahh the joys of visiting auto shops as a female. I'm writing this as I sit at another tire shop across town right before close after Motor City South lied about being able to fix my flat tire by end-of-day, then proceeded to backtrack on their promise, patronize me, and then try to sell me a last minute crappy tire for my nice car after the fact Hands down the worst/ most hysterical auto shop experience I've had on the east coast. As a female who has had her fair share of auto shop discrimination, I'm wary of visiting new mechanics solo. This experience is exactly why. I strongly recommend taking your business elsewhere. I was assured this AM that they could get my new tire and "pop it in no problem" despite their pre-Thanksgiving rush. I got a flat tire the other evening right before most shops close, and my wonderful go-to guys at Express Oil Change couldn't get my new tire until the morning so I opted instead to go with this shop because they're much closer to my new home & assured me they could get it done no problem. Before coming in-person, I emphasized to them over the phone how crucial it was that I get my new tire installed today because I need my car to deliver meals to needy families in the morning as part of a Thanksgiving volunteer program. If they couldn't deliver, no biggie I would just go to my regular place. I was assured it was absolutely no problem at all. I dropped my busted tire off around 10 AM & they told me they'd give me a call when they were ready for me to come back so they could put on the new tire. Here's the kicker: not only did they never call, but they SHUT OFF THEIR PHONE LINE. As closing time crept closer and closer, I tried calling them multiple times for over an hour and each time it went straight to a "caller busy" message. So an hour out from closing I finally just drove over to inquire. The guy at the front desk gives me no explanation for why their phone is off/why I wasn't contacted, informs me they can't change my tire until the AM now, then proceeds to check in with someone in the back and returns telling me "apparently you were told it would be ready by tonight OR in the morning." #1 rule of customer service: when you fail to deliver to a customer, don't inform them AND accuse them of lying ;) ...It gets better! A tall man I'll call Joe Schmoe who seemed to be a manager of some fine sort then pops out of the garage with an air of authority and "oh no not another crazy female" attitude. When I calmly explain my predicament/ that I told them I really need my tire done by end of day so I can deliver the volunteer meals in the AM and now the rest of the tire shops are closing, he decides that by repeating the same info over & over again, and inserting my first name into every sentence in an awkward attempt to patronize me, that the issue will magically disappear. Speaking to your female clientele like they have 2 brain cells isn't exactly going to help your business, Joe. Oh no, it's not over yet ladies & gents! He THEN checks my tire size, spots a crappy pile of tires on the side of the building, and magically appears with one, exclaiming "well look at that, today's your lucky day! This one's your size. I can put it on right now." My car is 2 years old/ in brand new condition - are you seriously going to attempt to correct this hilariously horrible experience with a gross looking old tire? Bravo Luckily I found 1 tire shop open later than the rest that had my tire in stock and agreed to help me ASAP - I had to drive all the way over to Midtown Tire and guess what? Despite being slammed, when I explained my situation, they literally got me in and out within 15 minutes. UNBELIEVABLE service - super friendly, fast, and professional. Came here when my car engine was overheating and the auto mechanic I typically go to was too far to try and get to. I got there around 815 am and was promptly seen. Turned out I had a leaking radiator and top hose which they were able to fix and I got my car back by the end of the next day. They also fixed my sun visor that was broken for free without me even asking. The prices seemed fair and and it's nice knowing your money's going to a local business. Mike and Todd and the rest of the crew were super nice and they'll definitely be my new go to mechanic from now on! read more

We've been taking our cars here since we moved to Atlanta in 2015, and we've never had a bad experience. Mike and the crew are professional, friendly, and pretty much the least pretentious mechanics we've ever dealt with. Let's face it, most mechanics are dicks; they know more than you and they tend to think they're pretty much the coolest thing since Elvis because of it. These guys aren't dicks like that. They've taken good care of all of our later model vehicles, and even when they've made a mistake, they were quick to acknowledge it and fix it. No fighting, no haggling, just pure class. They will always be the first shop we call when we have an issue. Do yourself a favor, don't deal with the dicks, call Motor City South first. read more

Pretty straight forward Tire Shop, not sure why its got such a great reputation though. I pulled up to get my rear tire checked, and I didn't get out as most shops they want to come out and greet you accordingly. I never had to get out to ask for an air check in my adult life, so I don't expect to start switching up now. Their was only 1-2 customers waiting around, and several mechanics scattered around the outside looking bored and indifferent to my car running...waiting. Anyhow, I waited for around 5 minutes before my patience wore thin and I took a chance with a mom-pop shop right by the crib and get way better service and attitudes. The point of this review, is to make those aware that they lack in customer service for repeat customers. Nobody approached me, which I found unusual, smug and dumbfounding. Update. I've lost confidence in Armor Tire. I recently took my aging SUV in for a diagnosis on a couple issues...the primary being a damaged tire that had to be replaced. After explaining a new noise that is coming from the engine to Carlos, the mechanic, he insisted that there was no noise and that it sounded like a Ford engine should. I've had the car for over 10 years. I know what it's supposed to sound like...and it's not right. Still, he insisted that there was nothing to investigate. After raising the car on the lift and checking the tires and brake rotars, Carlos suggested that I needed to replace the wheel hub assemblies that he felt were loose and replace a anti-lock brake sensor to resolve an occasional ABS warning I would receive. The only tires that the shop had were an unfamiliar brand that the attendant described as "high dollar". Since I questioned the mechanic's diagnosis and wasn't interested in paying for expensive tires that I had no quality ratings on...I decided to pass on the service and headed to another shop. The second shop replaced the tires with the brand that Consumer Reports said was best and replaced the brake pads...resolving all of the issues. I don't think any one was doing any dishonest at all. I just didn't agree with the mechanic's judgement and was frustrated with his unwillingness to figure it out. Not sure what I'll do the next time I need service. :-( read more

A good mechanic is an absolute necessity in life if you yourself aren't much of one and thank god for the guys at Motor City South. I didn't want to write a review while I lived in Atlanta because I was afraid if everyone knew how great they are I would never be able to get timely work done. I google everything I can about my Jeep's issue before taking it in so that I can ask informed questions. I could not believe how much Bailey and (Dustin maybe?) legit enjoyed educating customers and the process of figuring out the problem. They are very honest. They once even told me to let a sound issue become a little worse before they would repair it so that they could be more sure what the issue was. Prices are very fair. They try their hardest to get parts not currently in stock as fast as possible. They seem to know everyone in town to call. They first time I came in, was shortly after my first Jeep had been destroyed by a botched oil change (*please* see my review of Midas on 920 Northside Drive NW and do not go there). So I was asking a lot of questions that in retrospective were pretty weird. I just wanted to make sure they were familiar with Jeeps and did oil changes routinely on them. And they were still very polite and kind to me. They don't really do appointments which is the only downside, but for such great mechanics I learned to live with it. But they also work very fast, so the wait is never too bad. Thanks for being so great, guys! read more

I've been using Armor for tires for a couple years now, and now I am going to start using them for all routine stuff, like brakes and belts. They are reasonably priced and very honest. A few months ago I kept on hearing a strange noise when I turned and I took it there. They charge a small fee to check stuff out (understandably--like $25 or something) and they really checked my car out, put it on a lift, drove it around with me. They could not find anything wrong with it. AMAZING. The noise went away (maybe it was my overly sensitive imagination), and all is well. Rather than tell me I need this or that (and how am I supposed to know???) they were honest and they didn't even charge me the fee to assess my car!!!!! The thing is that as a woman, I really feel like we get ripped of by mechanics. It's happened to me so many times, and it's just irritating. But when I take my car to Armor, I know I being taken care of. read more

Don't take your Volkswagen here. I made that mistake so you don't have to. They replaced my catalytic converter for a reasonable price and the customer service was great. So I had my Jetta towed there when it started spewing smoke on the highway. The water pump and timing belt were replaced, but after several days and speaking to three different mechanics on the phone and finally the owner, I was told that the car was irreparable and that a head gasket was blown. It wasn't worth the value of the 2002 model to repair, and they couldn't do it there anyway. Wasted a week of my time waiting for Armor to misdiagnose my car, then lost sleep trying to figure out what I was going to do for transportation because I was told my car wasn't salvageable. I took the chance on taking it to a VW specialist, who said that the thermostat/ temp gauge was stuck, charged me $250, and sent me on my way. Oh, that cat converter? They installed a low-grade scrap model that's not appropriate for a Jetta. My check engine light is back on and the car will no longer pass emissions. The owner did offer to adjust the cat and has been reasonable about writing off charges. I will say that despite being terrible VW mechanics, they have decent customer service. I probably will have to scrap this car, because I can't drive something that won't pass emissions and it's really not worth the cost to have someone replace the cat, with the core, because Armor screwed it up in the first place. If I was smart I would let them "repair" the cat converter, but I don't trust them not to take a short cut and leave me in an even worse situation. My car wasn't unsalvageable when I took it into Armor Tire, but it basically is now. read more

After one of my tires nearly blew up on the highway during a road trip, I decided it was probably time to replace all the tires on my car once I returned home to ATL. I called several tire shops across the city for quotes, and the man I spoke to at Armor Tire was the friendliest by far. I dropped my vehicle off on a Saturday morning, grabbed a biscuit at Happy Donuts to kill some time and was pleased to find the work done 45 minutes later, as promised. The staff didn't attempt to dupe me into purchasing expensive tires or have other repairs performed; I got three 40,000-mile tires for about $230, including installation and alignment. Not bad. Plus, Armor Tire will rotate my tires for free in the future. read more
