It is extremely unsafe and I do not know how the men and women of this mosque accept this. To make matters worse - after you risk your life to brave through the alley way your greeted with garbage cans and a rotten smell. I will NEVER visit this mosque again and hope that God can forgive the people that allow this injustice to continue. This masjid is easy to get to using the BART and the 38L Muni if your in the city or in my case outside the city and would like to check it out. Now for the details.. This masjid is run by the Yemeni Association of San Francisco. As this was my first time attending this masjid and I had some insider information.. I knew that were was a separate prayer area and entrance to the masjid. When I entered the masjid I did do through the front door.. simply asking a brother... where is the women's entrance? I was lead down stairs through the basement to another set of stairs that lead up to the women's prayer area. The brother who helped me was very nice.. however my friend who met me there had a less pleasant experiance with another brother showing her where the prayer area is. Things that I noticed.. 1. The entrance to the women's area in the back isn't very safe or secure- there are no cameras or security for the women except a metal grate door. You have to enter on a street located behind the masjid, its right next to the trash cans - which smell. This isn't welcoming at all and doesn't show much concern for the welfare of the sisters. 2. There are no shoe racks. This mean shoes are left on the stairs up to the women's prayer area making it a hazard if women needed to leave the area quickly- I am surprised no one has tripped or fallen down the stairs yet. 3. The prayer area is a good size. It has 20ft ceilings which is great as well as huge windows. The only problem is the windows are all blocked off with curtains blocking all the natural light. I would suggest putting up privacy film for windows- it would block people seeing in but allow all the light in at the same time. 4. The bathroom is way to small for a bunch of women with even more small children. It has one toliet, a shower and a sink. Plus the lock doesn't work on the door = no privacy. It would have been a better use of space to put in two toliet stalls with a single sink rather than the shower. Plus a changing table for women with small kids, so they dont have to do that in the prayer area would be nice. 5. The khutbah was in arabic- however they offer radios that have a translation if you remember to bring batterys with you- since only one set of batteries worked while I was there.. and once I found one that worked... I needed to have head phones because those were missing. That wasn't the final straw.. it was that there was so much static - I couldn't hear the translation at all. 6. Finally there is no dedicated play area for the children.. so they tend to run around and get a bit crazy with nothing to do. So bring a toy or game that your child or children can play with quietly. AlhumduaAllah this masjid exists. May Allah(swt) make it easy to improve the womens area so its equal with the mens- Ameen

The men pray in the front and women towards the back. Jummahs khutbas are very funny, and to the point where anyone can understand. He uses real life examples. There are quite few converts that come to the masjid mostly men. Zikr is amazing, its a full house it consists of meditating, gathering in a circle with soft drums playing and remembering Allah swt. Most of the ladies are respectful and do not pull people's shirts and pants to straighten them although their own clothes are see through . Most of the women do not speak harshly or push and pull during the namaz time. I love the fact that they have extra head covers incase you were coming from work and forgot to keep the headcover after the wash. Most of the women avoid rubbing you in a wrong way .It is better than many mosques in the area. The sermons are very well prepared most of the time and they avoid time filler , redundant and baseless sermons . Most of the people are Americanized so you feel the civic sense of keeping the place clean. Family nights are great. Like all other masjids ,nobody welcomes a single person or a new comer. Like all other mosques there are women groups and they do not welcome you ,You just stay alone in all programs .You really have to find your way on your own to say salam but it does not work because women stay in their own groups. They have very good quality of books in the library .T he bathrooms are well equipped .water fountains everywhere to fill water bottle or to drink. They have classes. The main hall was locked because it was weekend but the entrance hall and the bathrooms were in horrible shape. The building is falling apart, inside is dirty and smells bad and so much random stuff in the entrance hall. They are now adding more parking because apparently they have a big congregation. It's a shame that so many people come to pray here but they do not take care of the masjid, which should be inviting and peaceful. And it is always easy to criticize. I applaud the few that started this mosque when they started, as it must not have been easy at that time. As it is, keeping a functioning mosque in these times is hard. And the few times I have been able to go there, the place was clean (for wadhu/ ablution) and cleanliness depends on individuals and how they leave the place. I am only grateful that if I happed to be there around prayer times, there is a place for me to go to.

And I'm not talking about just towards myself, I saw this towards many sincere seekers. I was completely ghosted by my teacher when things got difficult for me. Cruelty from a spiritual teacher and school is hard to understand. Hi, I thought it was reasonable to update this review after a number of years of being out of the…read moreSchool (after being in it for 11 years). I still have friends in it, who are finding value and richness in their unfolding. The School and their methods didn't work for me. I had too many childhood traumas to deal with, and the school wasn't good at recognizing them, the teachers weren't trained to recognize trauma, so they couldn't know to refer me to trauma specialists. They thought they could keep working on it with me themselves, through their signature inquiry practice; however my trauma defenses were usually too strong to allow the process of inquiry to unfold. So I spent a few years too long trying their gig. I hear their newer-trained teachers may have been more trauma-informed now, tho I can't speak to that myself. Separately, I had a long-time Diamond teacher, quite senior in the School, who - after I'd left - went off the grid in a red state, became conspiracy minded eg. referring to the "plandemic", went very right wing and firmly ex-"Bay Area liberal", convinced she has the new, greater truth than the one she was so firmly convinced of in the Diamond logos. All this after probably 30 years in the School? That didn't add to my faith in their methods or logos. I'm still giving it three stars as Hameed is onto something. Perhaps it would have been great to catch whatever it is, or failing that, that the many teachers who knew me would have helped us all be more honest in helping me realize it was time for me to move on. I've ended up satisfied with my own path since I've left the school. Spending over a decade there helped me realize that my path isn't through someone else's logos, it is my own to discover and weave, and this has been hugely helpful in setting me free.
