One of my favorite things about this place is that it's family-owned. You can even see the kids helping their parents, greeting customers, packing orders, and being part of the whole experience. The moment I walked inside, I felt like I had stepped back into my childhood. I grew up in another country, and this place reminded me of the small village stores I remember from years ago. It brought back a lot of good memories. Everything here feels homemade. Not "homestyle" as a marketing slogan, but actually homemade. You can tell people take pride in what they make. We tried the cinnamon rolls, a couple of fried pies, fresh lemonade, and later took home some jam as well. The cherry fried pie was probably my favorite, and the cinnamon roll was incredibly soft and fresh. Nothing tasted mass-produced. One thing I really appreciated was the atmosphere. No rush, no pressure, just friendly people doing their work. The kids working at the register were polite, explained everything we asked about, and made us feel welcome. We spent about $19 for everything we bought, which felt fair considering the quality and the fact that almost everything is made from scratch. If you're driving through this part of Missouri, I'd definitely recommend stopping here. Just crazy. And, the best part is --it tastes amazing. They have all sorts of whole wheat, multi-grain, and one of the most popular (it sells out the fastest, I hear) is the asiago cheese. Of course, I have a weakness for the cinnamon rolls, and their pecan honey roll is pretty amazing. I can also attest to the gluten-free muffins: somehow they avoid using gluten but the muffin is very fluffy and rich.
