I love coming up here to look out at the city, it's always soothing if you want to go somewhere and just drive. It's a great place to take out-of-town guests. I don't think it's too windy but if anyone gets slightly car sick, I don't think it's the best option. The main drag is from the 405 to the 101 which is about 30 minutes and 11 miles. There are a handful of overlooks on the way to get out and take photos. The Jerome Daniel Overlook is the closest to the 101 which is good if you just want to see a view but not go the whole trek, The Nancy Hoover Overlook has a trail that connects to Fryman Canyon Park, and the Stone Canyon overlook has a view of a reservoir. There are no services or restrooms along the way but if you stop at Coldwater Canyon Park there are bathrooms. There's also a little mini shopping center off Beverly Glen with a market and Starbucks. To the north are views of the valley and to the south Beverly Hills, the westside, and downtown. On a clear day you can see really far but let's face it LA usually has mostly hazy days and the air quality is not the best. read more

Nothing like a stroll or drive through the iconic and historic Mulholland Drive... Stretching from the 101 to the far west side of the 405 into Topanga and Santa Monica, California. It's one of the longest windiest streets in Los Angeles and the San Fernando Valley. It's very lush, green and full of critters [Note those signs]. Absolutely proceed with caution as it's as beautiful as it is dangerous, though much safer than the 2001 film in my movie collection starring the UK legend Naomi Watts, Justin Theroux, the late Robert Forster and many big and small screen legends. Captured in many films, television shows, books and works of art... It's staple that will move your heart from sunup to sunset. Super scenic, beautiful streets in the more populated parts and even safe places to pull over and take it all in. I've never driven the entire stretch, which if you include Mulholland Highway is about 21 miles long.. You can pretty much see all point of LA as you navigate through it. The hiking trails and viewpoints are rich with local geology though definitely a little shifted post rain. Hoping to pop up and through and get some get pics when the terrain settles more. Easy connecting access to many of the Canyon Roads like Laurel, Coldwater, Benedict and Beverly Glen Road to name a few among many. You'll be able to pop over at a nice market or shop and even take in Fryman Canyon Park, Coldwater Canyon Park and a few other green area. Plenty of overlooks too, hard to pick just one to enjoy some LA history. read more

This is one of the best drives in LA. "In LA" is key here because there does tend to be traffic from sight-seers sight seeing and locals using it to get from "A" to "B". You won't be able to race your sports car around the twists and turns. And it may not even be a fast way to travel to and fro. What it has, at some locations, wonderful views of the San Fernando Valley, at other locations, wonderful views of the Los Angeles basin. As much as I come to LA I've never went to a scenic area. So glad we came here to kill some time and look at the views. Luckily it wasn't smoggy/foggy and we could actually see the city lights below. We went at night but missed the sunset. It was cold but not overbearing. Not too many cars which made it easy for us to park. A perfect way to get some peace and serenity after combating the heavy car traffic below. The road to get here is super windy and in a residential area. Locals drive fast but if you're scared, take your time. read more

The pictures of this view do not do it justice ! I went yesterday and it felt so good to relax and watch the sunset. You almost always will find parking at one of the overlook areas. You can hop on top of your car for a better view or bring along some lawn chairs and watch the city lights fill the night. In terms of safety for COVID-19- People are following social distancing for the most part. Just search for Mulholland Scenic Overlook and it'll take you straight here. We drove through here a couple times, funny while I lived in SoCal I think I was on this road one time. There are great scenic overviews of the city and it is probably one of the better places to grab a glimpse of the sun as its setting. We aren't sure why, but there is an overlook and it was closed (maybe COVID)? They actually had a couple police cars blocking this area off, so hopefully they are able to get this opened back up soon. A little history about Mulholland. It's located in the Santa Monica Mountains and is named after pioneering LA civil engineer Williian Mulholland. It was opened in 1924 and was built by a consortium of developers investing in the Hollywood Hills. The intent for, at the time, The Mulholland Highway, was that it was destined to be one of the heaviest traveled and one of the best known scenic roads in the US. If you are in LA you should carve out a little time to travel this historic road. One star deduct since we weren't able to use the scenic overlook. read more

Beautiful views. Parking is tricky. Road is pretty curvy. So be careful. But it is worth it.

I think we've done this once years ago but I didn't remember any of it so decided to do it again. It wasn't too busy but the road was hard to drive on as it's narrow and windy with lots of blind curves. It also doesn't help that many drivers don't stay in their lines and drive erratically. The viewpoints mostly all looked the same and not that memorable... just brown hills and mansions. Only the last viewpoint was different as Studio City has cool lights and it was pretty cool after sunset. It's definitely not a must and kinda disappointing given how famous it is. The houses we could see from the streets were pretty though. read more

Came here at night so unfortunately I didn't get the opportunity to see the Hollywood sign or do any hikes but all I gotta say is this place is Breath taking! The views are just sooo beautiful and I can happily say that I can cross this off my bucket list. Getting here is not too hard but I definitely would recommend you come after traffic which is like around 8:15pm because prior to that it's insane sooo much traffic! Anyhow just map this place and it will take you right to the Mulholland Scenic overlook. Keep in mind that it closes at 9pm doesn't mean that you gotta leave by 9pm but if you get rolled up on by the police who knows what they will do. You may get cited. Just a warning. Anyhow there are some great overlooks I have to say the overlook of Universal was spectacular but kinda scary definitely watch where you walk and wear good shoes so you don't slip and fallllllllllll. I definitely would come here again during the day and just soak it all in. Pictures are great but just actually sitting or standing and really taking the time to appreciate Mother Nature at its finest is the best feeling. Really enjoy the views and fresh air. read more

It is dangerously beautiful. I bet it's gorgeous at night but I would personally be petrified to do it then unless I was very familiar with it. So many of the areas are just an invitation for disaster there. Some of the drops are infinite. Not all areas have rails and it's a very windy road. That aside, it is magnificent. Beautiful views everywhere. Just be careful while driving. Most of the sites have signs and some have small parking lots you can take advantage of. If you see something interesting, pull over or park to take in all the views. It took us a while to find the Hollywood sign from here and when we did, it was kind of far. I got a better view from the Hollywood and Vine shops photo spot. Traffic going up to Mulholland from our hotel (London West) was a pain so just be patient. Coming back it was much easier. I would definitely research this before going so that you know the places you absolutely don't want to miss and so that you can map it out. Some of the spots are not obvious at first and you can just drive right by it. Ya gotta do it if visiting. Allow a couple of hours at least so that you are not rushed. read more

The boyfriend and I were attempting to go hike at Runyon Canyon and found parking, but there were TWO tow trucks and police officers ticketing throughout the area. We decided to veer off to Mulholland Drive and were luckily able to grab a parking spot. We completed a mini hike complete with views of the Hollywood sign and a landscape of LA... It was a beautiful photo op! There are several lookouts where you can stop to look at the scenery and take pictures too. Warning: The drive goes through windy roads so drive with caution. Iif you've never driven through before -- be prepared to be tailgated, honked, and receive dirty looks from drivers who live in the area/know their way around. read more

Watch Autobiography-The Ghosts of Mulholland (2019). There are a lot of cars that went off the road along Dead Man's Curve and her twisting turns. Mulholland Drive is a fabled historic road stretching over the Hollywood Hills into the Santa Monica Mountains. It offers some great views that can be enjoyed during the day and night. Some of the overlooks are connected to hiking trails, which I haven't tried out yet. There are some good stretches of the winding road that makes for some fun driving. However, the drive is often marred by slow poke drivers who don't bother to pull to the side and let people enjoy it to the fullest. Too many tourists during the day, including those convertible Hollywood tour vans. At night there's less congestion but of course you have to be a bit more careful in the dark so the drive isn't as fun... Anyways, if it weren't for the slow poke drivers, it would be at least 4 stars! read more

One of the absolutely best views the city has to offer! We tried to exit on Mulholland drive off of 405 N and just go down mulholland but the road kind of led to a dead end. Even though it says online that you can just do that, it seems that we may have gone off on a side path and wrong road. Anyway, we ended up going back on the 405 N and then on 101 S. We excited on laurel canyon rd, made a right at exit. Next, we made a left on Dona Negito. And then about two miles in, left on mulholland. Go you keep going down, you will see a great view of the valley with the Comcast NBC universal building standing really tall. If you keep driving another 2-3 miles, you will hit the Hollywood Bowl Overlook. This is the exact place where you will get the perfect view of downtown LA. This is the place to take that picture perfect shot that's all over Google! However, BE CAREFUL. We had not read anything about park rangers coming before we went last night but they came. When you go at night time to get that perfect view, you have to jump over a little fence to get inside (it seems like a common thing to do and there were about 15-20 people when we went). However, while we were up there, the park rangers came and cited each one of the people up there with $175 for trespassing federal property. So keep that in mind when you go. Otherwise excellent place for a late night view of LA and could be very romantic as well. read more

I came here after seeing some gorgeous pictures my friend took. There are many different routes to get to this place. I came here from the 101 and exited Cahuenga. It's a TINY parking lot, so come early before sunset to get a spot. And I mean it when I say come before sunset. This place closes shortly after. Get your spot and walk around. They have a little walkway to walk a long. You get to over see downtown LA, the Hollywood bowl, and along the 101. It's simply gorgeous on a clear night. One thing to beware of. If you don't come here with a lover, I'm sure you'll meet one. Some blood lovers! Aka mosquitos. I got like 3 bites when I came here and my friend got some too. read more

MY FAVORITE VIEW IN LOS ANGELES!!!!! I've lived in SoCal my entire life and had no idea such a magnificent view existed until this past weekend! We arrived around 8:30PM on a Saturday night and didn't even bother to look for parking in the tiny lot. We parallel parked on the side of the hill across the street from the overlook. As if to make the already perfect view even more perfect, you can hear music from the Hollywood Bowl from the overlook!!! And, on a Saturday night, the Hollywood Bowl was playing the Tchaikovsky Spectacular with Fireworks so we also got to enjoy the fireworks show as well! NOTE: -There is ONE BENCH at the bottom of the steps (that lead up to the Hollywood Bowl Overlook) that we managed to snag. -A police officer came around 10PM to kick people out of the area and close the gates. The gate sign stated that the area was closed from sunset to sunrise, but we were clearly there after sunset. -I got a few mosquito bites but the view, music, and fireworks were well worth these battle scars! read more

This is a review for the nighttime drive down Mulholland. First of all, the Skirball exit off the 405 was under construction, so we had to get off in Sherman Oaks and take streets. We went up Skirball, made a right at the fork, and saw the first scenic overlook. It was okay, but nothing spectacular. We learned the hard way that if you continue down the hill, it takes you to a residential neighborhood (don't go down that way). If you continue up the hill, it's a ROCKY DIRT PATH that leads nowhere. Don't go down this way either. Head back to the Skirball fork in the road. So, we should've made a LEFT at the fork. If you continue this way, you can take Mulholland all the way east, and it spits you out at the Hollywood Bowl. There's about 4-5 scenic overlooks with a very similar view, but the last one is the best! There's a gated fence surrounding a small parking lot. The gates are closed at night, but you can hop the fence or pull yourself up a sorta steep hill using the rope. Totally worth it to get on the other side! You follow a short path that gives you a 360 view of the Hollywood sign, the Griffith Observatory, downtown LA, and the rest of the city. There's some signage that explains the history of the Hollywood sign and coin-operated telescopes. The majority of the drive is a 2-lane road with a lot of twists and turns. I was driving and still getting myself a little car sick. If you start by Skirball and take Mulholland toward the Hollywood Bowl, all the stops are on the left side of the street. Kinda dangerous when there's sports cars speeding down and you have to back out of the spot to get on the right side of the road. Anyway, it might take you a time or two to get familiar with the route. We got lost a lot, but it was quite the adventure. read more

What do you do at 4 in the morning and have nothing to do? Or at 12 in the morning and have nothing to do? You jump in your car and drive up the 405 to Mulholland Drive and take it all the way til the end, where it hits the 101. This windy one lane road takes you through the Santa Monica Mountains and Hollywood Hills to breathtaking spots of Los Angeles as well as bits and pieces of the San Fernando Valley. There are little patches of dirt where you're allowed to stop and get out of your car and gaze at the city from above with all the lights flickering like distant stars. Especially on a clear night, best bet is after the rain, you can see countless stars above and you and your friends or mate can try to see which constellations you can pick out of the gazillion on them. I've driven here for sunset and sunrise. I forgot that we don't get sunrises on the west coast that well lol, but it was still pretty watching the sky fade from black to light blue and the sun waking up from the mountains/hills as we wound the through the drive. The sunsetting was pretty spectacular. Just make sure you drive to a spot where you're able to see it, and time it perfectly cause sometimes you might just miss the sunset since you're driving through the hills and it is a one lane road. Don't miss the Hollywood sign on your drive through here! Then afterwards, drive to L.A and eat up! even if its late night or early morning, theres always something brewing. read more

I didn't know this was something you could review on yelp, haha! As someone who lives in the south valley I find myself up here all the time as part of my regular commute! It's a very pretty street to have as part of your commute. There are also little scenic overlooks up here. I'm approaching my 30s now, but back in my high school days I'd go up here to one of the scenic overlooks and study for the AP Calculus exam. I got a 5 on it and I credit the scenic overlooks! read more

I took a drive down Mulhulland Drive the other night. It was lovely. It was nice seeing the city illuminated by lights and the silhouettes of the mountains. The only thing that sucked is there were signs posted at the scenic parking lots along the road saying that there was no stopping after 9:00pm. Avoid joining them during the rush in the late afternoon. Mulholland is longer than most people realize because it stretches from the Pacific Coast Highway (PCH) all the way to Hollywood. The best entryway to Mulholland Drive is the exit off the 405 (near the Skirball Center). The best views are probably those between Hollywood & Encino. My wife and I used to just "drive" a lot when we were dating. We wanted to spend time together and explore at the same time. So, we did. Over 4-5 trips, we covered the entire length of Mulholland Drive. The stunning views of the San Fernando Valley are almost as memorable as the smile on her face.
