A few years ago, my roommate and I adopted a dog from Adopt a Lab. The process was very easy and we…read moreeagerly picked up the dog in CT a few weeks after the payment went through. Once we got the dog home, he did NOT adjust well. I do not know the dog's history, but Patty and Lee said he was sweet and playful. Maybe it was the house, maybe it was our scent, clothes, etc, not sure, but the dog was VERY aggressive at times. He would growl, bite, and snap at my arms and legs out of the blue. I was covered in bruises and puncture wounds. I called Lee frequently for strategies and the dog only got worse. It was a difficult decision to make, but the stress on the relationship between my roommate and I was too much. We contacted Adopt a Lab about bringing the dog back after 2 weeks. When we brought him back, Lee welcomed the dog with open arms and made a sarcastic comment toward us. He didn't acknowledge my roommate or I and put the dog in the truck to leave. Adopt a Lab has a policy that you must keep the dog for 2 weeks and then they would take the dog back for a refund if it did not work out. I contacted Patty a month later about getting a partial refund. Patty then went on to tell me that I was selfish for asking and that thank god there are only a few people like me who they run into. We went back and forth and she told me she was putting me on a "do not adopt" list (which I believe is slander). They finally gave me a refund a month later. Very frustrating company, I'm glad they are shut down and the animals can get a better shelter/home.

I found the most adorable puppy on Petfinder and contacted Adopt a Lab immediately through their posting. I was told I must make a down payment that night as the puppy would not be guaranteed if not. My credit card was charged immediately for the full $425 fee. I was then given the number of a foster mom and was told I could make arrangements with her to pick up the puppy in the next day or two. When I called, I was told that the puppy I adopted and PAID in FULL for had a little cough and it was best for me to pick him up in a few days, when he was presumed better. WELL a few days passed and I received a phone call from the foster mom saying she and her husband fell in love with the puppy and that they have chosen to keep him! I also recieved a phone call from Patty at Adopt a Lab saying that this is just the way it goes; foster parents have first priority over a fostered pet. I was shocked and stunned that both parties would be so blase over the process as if my full payment meant nothing! I was told that I have first pick of any new litters but I was so turned off by the unprofessionalism and the way this matter was dealt with that I decided to just ask for a full refund. I was given an attitude and told I would be given the refund... more than 2 months later, I still do NOT have my money! It is so unfortunate that an organization that rescues puppies has absolutely no idea how to run a business. I contacted them with the best of intentions and knew I would be providing an amazing and loving home for a puppy...now, I am completely turned off by the adoption process because of these incompetent people. If you are smart and want an easy adoption, I would stay FAR away from the people at Adopt a Lab and give your business to a more professional, polite, competent and efficient organization. They should be out of business! This recent article says it all! http://www.examiner.com/article/adopt-a-lab-muncie-indiana-raided-63-dogs-found-living-squalor

When I first walked into the office I was hit with a strong animal smell and several roaming cats. But that's why they're here and that's why I am here. I was greeted very warmly by the lady in the office, given a volunteer form to complete while she finished up with an adoption. I'll post more once I've had some volunteer time here.

I recently had very unfortunate circumstances that forced me to need to regime our dog of 6yrs. I was already devastated to have to be doing such. I called and had spoken to a member. I did my research online. Filled out the appropriate forms, brought in paperwork requested. After all of this was turned over, copied, standing there preparing to have to say goodbye only then to be told they could not help me and to go somewhere else like Indianapolis because I didn't live with in the county line. Online clearly states if you do not live within a given area that a fee would be required, which I was prepared to pay. I offered this several times and was still refused. After losing housing, staying with someone within Carmel but not being able to produce a bill with my name baring an address, again I was refused after first being told at the desk, I'm sure we can help you after you get your ID( I had accidentally left in the car) I literally go to the parking lot get it, come back, the woman that originally was assisting me avoids me and someone else steps up to assist me now. They proceed to tell me that cannot infact help me. Confused, I asked why I was asked to grab my ID if I would be refused again? They requested the person who did not own the dog come to surrender it bc they'd have a bill. What would they do to a homeless person? They had no idea what my situation was (Domesic violence, homeless, financial hardship, etc..) for a publicly donation/grant funded facility, I was blown away. Needing help in a desperate situation trying to ensure my best friend was taken care of properly, it was beyond humiliating. If the dog was abandoned and found in the street, they'd take him. Following procedures and doing it the correct way... No. By the grace of circumstance, I found someone privately and my poor pup didn't have to go into a shelter at all but I found this experience just disgusting. Beautiful facility with really ugly policies. Zero interest in helping a public outside a billing zip code.

There should be a zero stars option truly. Forever…read moreheartbroken!!!! "My experience was absolutely devastating. After a heartbreaking incident, my beloved dog, Jack, ended up in the shelter's custody. On the day of a court hearing as we knew we were going to fight for him , they called me to suggest euthanizing Jack early, claiming it would save us court costs as if money was more important than his life. This crap about animals being property is absolute bullshit!!!!!!!!. They even stated after I suggested I'll take him to my vet that if we chose to go that route, we could take him to our vet for the euthansia. But honestly, that felt like a hollow gesture given the context of their call. As we fought to keep Jack alive, we endured the agony of two court trials. Even after the judge acknowledged we could check in on Jack in the first hearing, the shelter denied us access to him, refusing to let us see our precious boy. The lack of transparency and compassion was staggering. To make matters worse, when I inquired about Jack's condition, the shelter was always tight-lipped, yet they had no problem discussing potential health issues with a former volunteer. This blatant disregard for our rights and feelings as Jack's owners was absolutely heartbreaking. And then there was the way the shelter treated me, it was particularly cruel, and my brother was outraged. His words still resonate with me. I can truly still hear him say "Why are they being nice to me! They destroyed me. I have zero respect for those people." His pain and anger to this day are still so vivid, and I completely and wholeheartedly share his feelings. Okay and so then we had the second trial, the shelter told me to talk to their lawyer from here on out (as I called about our precious boy every single day ), oddly enough he refused to return my calls or even acknowledge my brother's visit to his office. I felt like I was in limbo, with no idea when euthanasia would happen. The uncertainty was crushing and agonizing. Then, out of the blue, they called one day to inform me that they had euthanized Jack, giving me just a week to collect his body. I was at work and I dropped to my knees after the call. My co-workers after hearing what happened were left in shock. They were like oh my God how horrific! The callousness and lack of compassion were staggering. I mean the way the shelter handled everything was nothing short of cruel and heartless, leaving my family with wounds that will never fully heal. I'll never get over this even if I live to a hundred. I will forever be haunted by how this shelter treated our beloved dog and our family." Jack was truly the best dog ever and he is so missed every second of every day. This place absolutely gutted us! We pray that another family never ever goes through the utter hell we went through. Life without Jack is just not right at all!
