I cannot recommend Mundvoll enough. It's the best restaurant anywhere near Kottbusser Tor and easily in my top-5 for Kreuzberg. There's the perfect and personal service - its owner replied to my reservation, for one thing. Then there is the understated and beautifully designed interior. There's no real sign outside either, so it might be easy to miss. The menu here is well thought through; it balances traditionally hearty German fare with a modern approach, but keeps everything dead simple. I've tried several things and found they're all excellent: the whole oven baked Dorado, the steak with red wine sauce, the schnitzel on a bed of ratatouille. A great starter on the seasonal menu is a pumpkin mousse which is easily enough for two - it tastes great spread on Mundvoll's own homemade bread, as well. I'll admit I've never made it to dessert... there's never any room left for that. Well worth a visit. read more

I have been walking past this Café-Restaurant for many times during the last year thinking to myself "well, another Kiez Kneipe, Kreuzber, you know". The only thing that really attracted my attention were the two wooden palettes used for the vertical gardening at the entrance. Finally those palettes were the reason why I grasped their menu one day, to discover to my surprise that the Kneipe is not as is simple as it is. Finally I visited it for lunch yesterday and got enough reasons to return today for another lunch. The location inside is more inviting than it seems to be from the outside. The kitchen is right there in the dining room right behind a huge glass wall. So you can watch the food being prepare without getting too much of a smell. The lunch menu changes everyday and includes soups, a sandwich, a pasta dish and one kind of a really big heavy main dish. All in one there are around seven to eight changing dishes to choose from, varying from around 4 to 9 Euros each. Everything looks really tasty and homemade. A soup I tried was really delicious, as well as the pasta my colleague has had. Accompanied by a glass of simple but good Riesling it made a perfect lunch. A sandwich on the neighbour table teased my appetite so I returned today to try it. Much to my disappointment today's sandwich was with meat. It looked tasty but was not an option for a vegetarian. The stuff was very friendly though and there was no problem to get a cheese sandwich, which was not on the menu. And it was one made with love: just enough bread to balance the taste of fresh cheese, a mix of cions and different greens and a small salad for gourmet rabbits. Well, for now it will be my favourite lunch location to treat myself in the days when the job stress just gets over the top read more

Seriously this has the be one of my favorite places I have tried here in Berlin. Recommended by a friend, and tried on a whim, this place fulfilled and exceeded any expectations I had of it beforehand. A friendly and warm environment welcomes you into the adorable and simply decorated restaurant where you have full view of the kitchen (one guy). There is a downstairs and an upstairs, both equally as comfortable. My friend and I immediately went all in and decided if we were trying a place, the homemade lemonade was a must have. Ginger mint lemonade! It was delicious. I had honey ginger lemonade at cocolo ramen a few nights ago and can say that this lemonade was way better. Smooth and refreshing. I got a fish stew and my friend the best risotto with salmon (fresh fish on Fridays). Both plates were delicious and well presented. The waitress was sweet and let us practice our German with her. After the main meal we had to get dessert as there was a refrigerator full of cakes tempting us the entire meal. I got a chocolate cake and my friend the cheesecake and we were both given large (double slices) pieces, so much that we took half home with us. Overall I couldn't get enough of this place and can't wait for another chance to go have dinner at Mundvoll. read more

We were close to this place by chance and decided to go since only kebabplaces were close. The staff were extremely nice and recommended great wine and recommended dishes, even though we suggested the more expensive one, they recommended a cheaper one because it fitted better with the rest of what we were having! The wine was really great and they started by bringing a plate of olive oil and balsamico with salt and pepper along with great bread. delicious! The starters were great and the main courses were magnificient and tastet great (altough the meat was slightly overcooked, it still tasted great). The homemade icecream and strawberry/mint salad was out of this world. The also have great snaps and make a great moscow mule. A true gem in the heart of kreuzberg! I trult recommend it! read more

Mundvoll was the 2nd closest breakfast place to our hotel. We called ahead to make sure they were open for New Year's Day and to make sure they could accommodate our party of 6. They were very polite and accommodating with a few menus in English. Our waiter spoke English too which was helpful. We ordered the small cheese plate, pancakes, scrambled eggs, bacon, toast, coffee, and the fresh orange juice. EVERYTHING was DELICIOUS! The rye bread served with the cheese plate was the best I've tasted. The bacon was crispy. The pancakes were fluffy, sweet and the honey syrup made them to DIE for. I will definitely come back when we visit Berlin again. read more

There were tables available and no line of customers waiting to be seated. Traveling alone is hard enough, but being hungry and not seated because your just one person is worse. Service wasn't great, breakfast platter was nothing special a few slices of meat, a few pieces of cheese, butter, some seasonal fruit (not very fresh). The bread basket was really good as was the coffee. The portion is decent but it's just a very meh dish. Not aesthetically pleasing, just a simple plate of a mix of food. Absolutely hands down AMAZING. Bf and I came here around 9pm on a weekday. Snagged the best seat in the house (right next to the stellar chefs) and just absolutely loved our evening. BF had a very excellent entrecôte which he said taught him something about life it was so good. Not kidding. I had one of their stellar entrée salads and it was glorious!! I saw their sous chef placing parsley on if like it was gold leaves, which made me feel like a princess. The wine was nice, and service perfect. All at Berlin prices! Terrible. When I eat at German places I try hard to pick safe options unless there is a famous dish that is recommended by a friend, so I ordered the Kase Fruhstuck. What can possibly go wrong? A bunch of German cheese, a soft boiled egg and bread. It took me hours to digest it, it was like trying to dissolve a brick into water. The bread was stale, tasteless or gummy depending on the variety I really had a hard time accepting the idea that was in the same food category of the bread I bought from the Italian stands in the market. The restaurant itself had the strangest combination of super chill slow kitchen, you can see the cooks from an open window, and incredibly nervous owner screaming at the dishwasher and running everywhere like the place was on fire. Luckily they have another person on staff that is incredibly affable, courteous and really makes you feel at ease, I seriously hope my tip went entirely to her. read more

I really don't understand where all these good reviews are from... this place is just not good. The food is served in a sloppy way, it is not tasty. This is something that anyone can just whip up at home on their own. The service is also not particularly pleasant. The pancakes served to us were completely raw inside - we had to send them back. The mix-plate was random. There is nothing special they do. Even their bread seems to me like it's just right out of a frozen plastic bag. Blah! read more

I live close to Mundvoll, I have come several times (lunch and dinner). Super good and fresh food, generous plates. The place feels "local" but is welcoming even for non-Germans; it's also cute and well-decorated, there is a bit of a Williamsburg flavor. Of course, it's a bit more expensive than a basic restaurant, in particular in the evening, but it definitely worths it. Actually, I hesitated about rating this place, because I like it so much that I wanted to keep it secret! read more
