This location definitely has room for improvement. Overall it is not bad but some weekends there are a number of machines that do not have cash to give or only give 20's with no other choice of bills to give. There is no number to speak to a live person. I traveled from Florida to NY to submit POA forms. I have been waiting 2 weeks for the legal dept. to reach out to me. No response yet. My mother had a heart attack and needs me to manage her affairs but I can't move forward without legal grants approval. I have no idea if the documents submitted are correct or not. I went inside to make a quick deposit and it turned into a slow deposit. Let me start by saying MCU changed their system of helping members from a ticket based to a line based one. At least the previous system allowed you to have a seat while waiting. The line has stanchions that has two bends which holds roughly 20 members. Well, when I walked in, the amount of members exceeded that number causing the line to pass the table at the entrance. They have about 5 or 6 tellers so you would think the line would move faster but that's not the case. Staying off bank lines is a goal of mines and I'm sure the elderly would not like standing for 25-30mins each bank visit. Hopefully this line experiment doesn't last long MCU. read more

Horrible, just horrible. I've had one pleasant experience since going there over 10 years. The tellers operate with no sense of urgency. I spent over an hour trying to make a deposit. Everything is manual. Its 2023 but these guys are still stuck in 2012. Everyone in line is complaining but nobody cares. One star is just being generous. read more

I truly appreciated the superior customer service experience I had today with Alaisha Shim of the member service team. She was quick , patient and knowledgeable , great attitude . She helped me set up online banking and guided to set up bank transfer from my primary bank. My appointment was 8:30 and was done by 9am. My high star review is for her . She deserves a lot of credit and hope her bosses appreciate her. I honestly can say the best way to see a member is by setting up an appointment . Without an appointment the wait time to see a member representative is horrible . It's not the staff's fault - it seems to be the process the management have set up . I waited 2.5 hours a few days ago to speak to member service and I couldn't wait longer so I left but I did make the appointment to be seen today . Waisted time and gas the first day. I abhor this branch. The wait times are so ridiculous. I used to live out here in Coop and my family still does so, I have found myself coming back here out of desperation. Since they've started the newer ticket number process, the wait times have diminished somewhat but it's still like being in a sitcom about going to a government agency, being bounced around to longer and longer lines and feeling like you're aging there. Every time I've ever walking into this lock, it's packed to the brim, with people on top of people and I almost always feel claustrophobic sitting next to so many people. I enjoy my personal space and being here is just too close for comfort. I've found myself coming back in an emergency, like needing a new card on the fly, especially on a Sat when my branch in Yonkers is closed. The Coop City branch is open until 1pm o and Saturdays which helps a lot if you have unexpected banking issues to take care of. The credit union, itself is very good. They have tons of savings plans, of which I am enrolled in all, including their vacation and holiday funds and savings accounts. They have many options for clearing up debt, getting a car or home and their rates are pretty damned good. Of course there aren't as many branches as with, Chase, so to speak, but they're are a good banking institution, looking out for families and the working class. You can open up a kid's account here like I did for my son and teach your child about debt and finances. As for the actual brick and mortar of this particular branch, I just don't like being in here. read more

I recently visit this MCU branch to open a new account and get information about a loan. I made an appt and patiently waited my turn to be called. While there seemed to be a lot of chaos going on. (System down, printer down, long wait time) I'm giving this review 4 stars because of the customer service I received. The member service representative I dealt with was Raven, who was a pleasure to deal with. She provided me with all the information i needed in setting up my account, loan information, and any other questions I had. While everything seemed to be in disarray, she was organized an totally apologetic for the difficulties that branch was experiencing that day. While it can be frustrating at times to have to wait for service, having such employees can make up for it in a big way. Keep up the good work! read more

Customer Service is non-existent. If you call on the phone 1-2 hours on hold. And to think, I was kicking down the doors to get an account. They advertise new products, yet they do not have a handle on the fundamentals of customer service. COVID is over, but try and get someone on the phone. She started having a conversation and look the the other person's sell phone who seemed to be showing her something on the phone. When she decides to come back I tell her I have an appointment she just tell me to go sit down. So I don't know of she checked me in or anything. I sit and wait another lady called my to her desk within 20mins which was great. I told her I was told to come into the bank and pick up my car loan check. She began to tell me they were to busy for that and I would have to come back. I drove 1.5 hours to get there and called out from work, and i had a appointment. I had to plead that I got this done today. It's sad that they get away with this kind of behavior. Guess the lady felt bad for me as I started to tear up. Yes a grown adult. I literally opened an account to take advantage of their low interest rates because I was buying a car. After I'm done paying of the car I will be done with MCU the customer service is TERRIBLE. You call you have to wait hours even after a finalized the car loan online and is it has to go get the check from the branch at first they were like they didn't receive any email that's check was ready. I had to pull up the email communication from the guy I was talking to to get them to give me the check. All I had to do was pick up the check nothing else no signing no nothing and I still had to wait a long time just to do that. It's really sad this bank overall os just bad. read more

My nightmare started when I went through the drive-through ATM machine. The ATM machine kept my card. The very next day I went to the bank branch and I was told that I needed to have an appointment. I was told that there was nothing that they can do to replace or retrieve my card. So now I have absolutely no access to my money. I was told that it will take weeks to replace the card. I was not offered a temporary card to replace it for the inconvenience. Needless to say this has caused a negative domino effect to all of my activities. I was also told to come back at another time. I should not have to suffer because the ATM malfunction. 80 % of the other people in the bank were there for the same reason. Why not put up a sign letting customers know that the ATM malfunctions. People are also standing for long periods of time with no bathrooms, no water, no sitting and no air which is unsafe. read more

If this place could get a negative 5 stars, I would give it to them and I think I'm a generous reviewer. I came in one Saturday to do something very simple such as replacing my bank card. I told them what I came for and I was provided a number like they give at the DMV. With such a seemingly efficient system one would think service would move faster. Well unfortunately this would not be the case at this location because I waited 1 1/2 hour for a replacement card, REALLY!!! I was so irritated and the bouncing back and forth from one line to the next to tell them the same thing was ridiculous. The service was poor and the staff person stated that was a "normal" day. If this is the case, they really need to reconsider their business practices. All I need to say is, coming back to this bank will not be happening! Thursday I stopped by this bank to get a replacement card which everyone was next except teller#7, young woman with ponytail and color. She told me to go to teller #4 to pick up replacement card. I stood and waited for her to return to me my license. She yells go to teller #4 to pick up your card. I inform her I'm waiting for the return of my license. She said I said go to teller number 4. So I asked where is my license. Instead of saying pick up your replacement card and license at teller #4 she yells as if I'm in the wrong. Now I really understand why she's behind thick plexi glass. It's because of her nasty attitude. MCU must cant hire professional type people to work in their welfare banks. They have no order to this bank. I did like teller #4 as she explained I wouldn't be able to use my card for 24 hours/1 hour ATM. That didn't make sense. I also asked her about the chip. She said it's coming. Ugh. I have wrapped coins to deposit or exchange and went online where it states wrapped coins are accepted. I went to MCU and stood on the line for almost an hour only to be told by the teller and the branch manager they DO NOT accept wrapped coins. They have a coin machine which is broken. This is absolutely the worst bank in the world. They absolutely try their hardest to provide you with the worst possible customer service in the world. You have to wait hours to speak with a customer service representative both at the bank and on the phone, they really could not care less about you or you money. They also will randomly lock your account for no reason at all and then you have to spend an hour or two on the phone trying to get them to u lock your account. I am excited because in a couple of months I get to close my account once I pay off the car Loan I have with them. This review is not so much about the actual branch in as much as the system used... how is it possible that one needs to wait over an hour to make a withdrawal- the current number system being used at MCU branches just doesn't make sense- you have access to my money and I should have access to my money without losing over an hour of my life each and every time I visit the branch because I need to see a teller - the phone number is strictly automated, you will never speak to an actual person, the app is always "under construction" and unavailable for use while "under construction". If it weren't for the loan and credit card rates, I would never even consider MCU- it's been too many years of this nonsense, MCU needs to do better for its members- it should be running as smoothly as a Chase Bank- why are there only 3 branches for members to do business? First things first, this review applies to EVERY MCU branch I've come across and the bank as a whole. I came to Yelp to see if I was overreacting w/ my feelings towards this joke of a financial institution. NOT AT ALL!!! After reading other reviews (some go back as far as 2014), it seems that my experiences w/ MCU are more the contentious than it just being a 'one time deal'. Their customer service is the most atrocious I have ever encountered! The worst, and I've been on hold w/ cable providers for hours and I still put them ahead of this bank. My wife is a nurse and was "given" this account when she started over a decade ago. Not an instance goes by where after we've dealt w/ this bank that I say to her "pleeeease, let's go to another bank". Locking our account w/ no warning, jumping through hoops to replace cards, no ATM's easily accessible, deposited checks that take way too long to clear, bank cards so cheaply made that the black strip becomes unreadable after regular everyday use, customer service that is only available during 'office hours, business days'...too much to list to be honest. The only thing holding us from leaving MCU is the debt we have w/ one of their cards. Once that is paid off, adios MCU!!! I am currently copying and pasting this to every review forum I can find because they and everyone needs to know how I feel and that this has been brewing in me FOR YEARS!!!! I'm over this institution. I'm used to Navy Federal and thought that I would get the same level of sense and customer service. Forget it. After hours help - non existent. Account security- I'm convinced that a pack of five year olds are in charge. Example: fraud on my account that they called me about.... And they could see that I was in a different location, BUT they determined I was at Fault because the card was still in my possession. They cancelled my card because of a system security breach and didn't tell me. Then there's a delay in card activations being effective for like two hours... I've been to several branches throughout the city and rarely EVER have a nice interaction...the ATMs seem to be riddled with issues - at least in the co op city location. Ugh. It's a joke. MCU has always allowed those with not so good credit become homeowners, car owners and help build people's credit with Secured Loans and Credit cards(Something "big" banks frown upon). You have to come early or be prepared to wait quite a long time. They are open on Saturdays but be prepared for it to be packed with those that work on the weekdays. Place is very clean and lit well and the seating is comfortable however no bathrooms for customers. read more

Refinanced my auto loan because of the great rate MCU was offering back in 2017. I've never stepped foot inside a branch but the inefficiency is highly noticeable. My auto refinancing was painful like I had to contact the loan officer to find out why it had been like two weeks and my loan wasn't paid off. MCU dropped the ball and I had to get a new pay off letter and keep calling and emailing them to get the refinance completed. I got the feeling they didn't really want my business because of how much effort I had to put in. Then when paying my auto loan online I noticed the money I transferred from other bank account took extremely long to post to my account. If I put in the transfer to my MCU account on a Monday, the money would not show up in my MCU account until like the following Friday. I requested a payoff letter through fax and they never sent it. Had to call customer service numerous times to get a payoff letter. The auto loan is now paid off but two months later they never sent me a lien release. I call customer service to get a lien release and yet I'm asked to go to a branch to expedite the process or wait for snail mail to receive it. This is something that should have been sent a long time ago. Worst customer service and banking experience. I do not recommend. The MCU app is also a joke. read more

Terrible Customer service!! After getting approved for a personal loan, I caught them trying to sneak in life insurance and disability insurance!!???!! The insurances combined were $12 a month over the 60 months life of the loan they pocket $720 beside the interest??!! And this credit union is here "for" city employees? Go find a REAL BANK!!
