[16/100] Shout-out to Isboel L., thank you for sharing and writing a great review! It was MLK day and I had a day off. I didn't want to waste the day by sleeping in so I went for a drive, a 48 minute drive to be exact. I had never been to Pacoima, maybe I heard it once but can not recall it. It isn't different from most cities found in LA County. A block after I exited, I already saw a mural. A lot of them are in plain sight and striking. I'm glad there was much traffic because I was able to cruise down Van Nuys Blvd and even pull over by the curb. The murals are enormous! They have so much details to them and color combinations are very pleasing to the eyes. The well being of a Community is very important for all generations, especially the younger ones. Seeing all the murals and reading about how it's been a movement since 2012 by artists is inspiring. Talent can also be a form of currency to donate to those less fortunate. Having amazing art all throughout an area makes it more inviting and shows similarities rather than differences. While I was taking a photo of the Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera mural, a gentleman that worked at the hay market across came up to me. He was super friendly and asked where I was from. He knew all about the murals around the city as well and encouraged seeing all of them. That was an awesome experience especially not being from the area. I looked up the map that's provide on their website but didn't reference back on my visit since most of the murals are located near one another. I'll have to mark off all the ones I didn't get to see because there's so much more! Pros: - Free - Very easy to locate - The website is well made Cons: - The road on Van Nuys Blvd isnt in the best condition

    Mural Mile ~ Pacoima

After several months of trying to make my way to see the Mural Mile (1 hour drive) I finally got to visit today. My overall consensus, I was expecting to see a stretch of consistent murals, not a few here and there, up and down the streets. It was like a treasure hunt looking for them all. At one point I pulled over to ask a few officers if they knew where they were at, but had no luck. After an hour driving up and down Van Nuys Blvd, I am able to tell you that the murals are off of Van Nuys, in between Glen Oaks Blvd and Arleta Ave. Also, I did not find all of them. If you decide to visit, I hope you have better luck than I did locating all of them. Take lots of water if you decide to walk, it's a good 2 mile walk from Glen Oaks to Arleta.

Had a few hours to kill in this general area, and I'm glad I visited this stretch of Van Nuys. I'm also glad I didn't drive too far to see it. Overall: worth a visit if you are close by, and a good way to see something that you probably wouldn't wander into by accident. Three stars because this is a very industrial stretch and we were almost the only people walking around. It just felt...weird and slightly intrusive. This is a working neighborhood, not a tourist spot (at all). You know how it would be strange if you saw someone on your street taking photos? I felt like that someone.

Four stars because I wish there was more!!! Levi Ponce, if you're reading this.. I'm such a fan of your art work and I see your painting all over the valley. Another reason for the four star was because I see so much trash around the areas and cars parked right in front not really allowing people to see the art in one whole view. Kinda sucked. I wish the valley cared and showed a little more respect for these artists. Overall, the parking was ok. It's cool to walk and see these murals and see a bit of history.

Art is power; murals have a long and important history in art and especially in the Mexican art tradition. Pacoima is continuing this tradition to communicate and motivate in a beautiful and powerful way. The neighborhood is blossoming with murals that are well worth a trip. See http://www.muralmile.org/ for more information. Many of the murals are on Van Nuys Boulevard but not all, so keep your eyes open. Tips: take your camera, visit during daylight for best pictures, and park safely.

I was inspired to plan a trip here after seeing Patricia D.'s review and she was motivated after Isobel's review. (hopefully my review/picture will do the same to someone else) I had never visited Pacoima previously and only knew about it from La Bamba as Ritchie Valens's hometown. I think it is safe to say that this project of murals has undoubtedly beautified the city and brought pride to the residents (mission accomplished)...shout out to artist Levi Ponce who played a major role in this project! My sons had a Friday off from school in late January so we jumped in the car that morning and headed out on our adventure. It is located about 20 miles NW of Downtown LA. We parked on Van Nuys Blvd. near Herrick Ave (Pacoima Early Education center). We walked west on Van Nuys toward the 5 fwy for about a mile and after about 45 mins. we crossed the street and walked back on the other side of Van Nuys Blvd to see the murals and our total trip lasted about 1 1/2 hours. We saw many murals but from the map I think it was just half since there are more that are closer to the 5 fwy that we didn't make it to before turning around and others that are not located on Van Nuys...I would love to go back and see all the other murals in the near future. I think this is a great experience that doesn't cost any money except for the cost of the gas to get there and I highly recommend it. I love that the murals represent the culture of the neighborhood and pay homage to some of its famous former residents. *many of these can be seen easily from the street however one of the more impressive murals we saw was located on the back wall of the Entrepreneur Center on the corner of Van Nuys and Telfair Ave.

they are a bit spaced out, some need to be found behind buildings but it was a nice way to take a walk, wished there was more business opened along the mile tho.

What a fun day walking around the area. Very neat murals and cute little shops and food stands to look at.. We started by Arleta and Van Nuys and walked about 2 miles down... So 4 miles total.. Really cool to get out and see the artsy side of Pacoima.

A great way to see Van Nuys especially on a nice sunny day. Loved the Trejo mural the most. I highly recommend lunch on the main drag.

It's ok, I love the murals but they are spread out. Best just to do a drive through, unless it's a nice day then it's a great walk.

My husband and I have been fostering two bunnies from Bunny World Foundation (BWF) for about a year…read morenow. After losing our previous bunny unexpectedly, which totally wrecked us, we found immense comfort and support through this incredible community of rabbit lovers. Lejla, Jane, and the long-time volunteers are exceptionally knowledgeable about bunny care and wellness, and they truly care about every single animal. Bunnies are not "easy" pets, so having a whole community to lean on and ask questions around the clock makes the world of difference. Because of BWF, I've become a much better caretaker in providing a suitable environment, proper diet, and grooming. Fostering Popcorn and Zoe has been such a joy. It's unfortunate that people tend to overlook REWs (Ruby-Eyed Whites) because of their eyes, but Zoe is brilliant! She's a smart girl who has recently started zooming and binkying the second she hears the fridge open up until you set that nice plate of greens down. While she prefers her enclosure, if you step into her space, she'll happily demand pets and treats. Popcorn is a curious guy who explores the house every day as if it's his first time seeing it yet we can completely trust him not to chew on anything! He earned his name from the hilarious midair body shakes during his binkies, witnessing one will absolutely make your day. He is notorious for his afternoon nap flops as well. Zoe is definitely the dominant one, which means Popcorn grooms her every single day. We can always tell when Zoe tries to return the favor because she's... not great at it. Popcorn ends up looking like he just rolled out of bed! Both of them are incredibly well-behaved, used to being groomed, and will happily sit in your lap for hours during a grooming session. Hopefully Popcorn and Zoe can find their perfect forever home where they will have more space to binky and explore! If you are looking to adopt, foster, or support a rescue that truly knows and cares for rabbits, Bunny World Foundation is an amazing option.

It is the hub from which various other nonprofits voice and turn the wheels of their projects. Even a recent Yelp Beach Cleanup event, associated with Heal the Bay, required volunteers to sign up first with LA Works. For MLK's Day, LA Works planned a morning at Rosemont Elementary where hundreds of people, most of them a part of their employer company (ex. Target, Home Depot, JP Morgan, Accenture), showed up to help revitalize the campus. A radio station came prepared with dancing and music to jumpstart the day. Volunteers were assigned letters and numbers, then told to report to their assigned tasks. It was all very organized and efficient. They cleaned the computer labs, classrooms, storage room and rec room. Adults and kids alike transformed drab brown walls into a playground of rainbows and sunshine. Snacks, juice and water were available throughout the event. Following, food trucks showed up, some of which were either prepaid by the organization or declined to charge. You can become a volunteer by signing up for an account - and then going through their available search options for projects you would be interested in. I like looking through their calendar for a big picture of their activities. Some projects, like anything that has to do with animals, are hot and fill up faster than others. Clicking on the individual project listing will provide a detailed description and, more importantly, the geographical location/zip code. Trust me, the easier it is to get there, the more available and willing you are to enjoy the event, maybe even on a weekly basis.

It was easy to sign up for both events; the respective coordinators got back to me quickly, and I had a wonderful time. I look forward to helping out with future events. Thank you again!
