They take cake pretty seriously in this store and I respect that. When you walk in you're greeted by an endlessly long counter filled with enough biscuits and cakes to feed, well, me preferably. This cafe has heaps of comfy seating and a good range of foccacia's to nosh on at lunchtime. There's lots of wood and wicker seating out front with shady umbrellas, and I would recommend sitting outside because the chairs inside squeak on the floor so bad I started grinding my teeth. Now, the biscuits: I had coconut macarons, lime shortbread, and coffee florentines, and they were too delicious to believe, try them for yourself. As soon as you place a coffee order they bring you a water glass on a whimsical silver platter, as if to say 'cleanse your palate lady, you're in for a ride.' The atmosphere is somewhat helped by the charismatic pastry chef, but at the end of the day, it's all about the cakes. And they're damn good cakes. read more

This cake shop and cafe gets 5 stars because it is the kind of place to take a friend for some serious 5 star treatment. The coffee is very good but it really shines in the cake and dessert department! From mini eclairs, chocolate-dipped biscuits and macarons to show-stopping divine cake goodness of every variety this place really gives you a sugar rush (in the best possible way). One word: MACARONS. In case you haven't heard, when it comes to sweet treats it's ALL about the macarons. Cupcakes are SO 2010, people. As a huge macaron fan, I am pretty pleased with Muratti. That's not to mention their huge and drool-worthy selection of cakes, gateaux, meringues, cheesecake, mousse, chocolates.... But it's the macarons I come for and the macarons I can't look past. Sure the selection isn't huge, and they don't look quite pretty as a Parisian patisserie picture (try saying that 5 times fast), but in terms of taste and texture, Muratti are my favourite macaron source in Adelaide. The common mistake with macarons is to make them too chewy: they should have a slightly crisp shell, encasing filling that's as soft as a cloud on a summer day in the Tuileries. Muratti delivers. Plus they're served up by lovely, friendly staff. This is a sweets bakery at its yummiest. read more

Conveniently located on Prospect Rd (convenient because I don't live too far off :P), this place has become one of my favourite haunts whenever I'm in the mood for coffee and cakes. Being someone who's quite particular about my coffee, I'm glad to say that Muratti delivers. Good body and aroma that gives me my afternoon fix and compliments the sweets I usually end up ordering. And of course, I should mention the cakes. I've tried several but my particular preference is the eclair - fluffy and dry pastry, ample amount of cream and a thin chocolate layer that doesn't overwhelm. Definitely one of the better ones I've had in Adelaide. Friendly staff, and decent cafe-style dining areas. Great for coffee breaks and quick conversations (unless you're having more than one cup of coffee/cake, then it's awesome for long convos too). read more

Well what more can be said about this glorious patisserie/cafe. It would have to be the best boulangerie in Adelaide '& not far behind Paris!! The cake cabinet is a sight to behold - full of a patissier's works of art! The mille feuille is to die for (that superb caramelised pastry & patissier's cream [like custard]) Brilliant!! The choux pastries (eclairs etc) are excellent; the fruit gateaux & mousse creations are amazing. If you haven't experienced this place on Prospect Rd. you need to, to get the complete picture of Adelaide's talents in this area. It's nice also to have some stylish outdoor furniture. Yes, this really is a five star, as good as it gets, I recommend you get yourself there and give yourself foodgasms review. If I wasn't a wordy writing person, then words would fail me to describe the delights you will find inside Muratti's. We've seen the ridiculously complex desserts on MasterChef, right?? They do them. You can get a crockenbouche... you can get macarons... you can get a hemisphere of like chocolate mousse stuff that's incredibly rich and melts in your mouth, filled with liquer topped cherries and then covered in a dome of chocolate glaze, that I'm sorry, I don't know the name for, I just know I HAVE to have one when I go there. But then cherries, and chocolate... there's my two kryptonites all rolled into one. Muratti's also does coffee. It's great coffee. They do rolls, and sandwiches, too. But... and this is a big BUT... this place is ALL about the desserts. Stunning, stunning stuff, and I know if you go there you're gonna be raving about it just the same - well, unless you have a defective sweet tooth gene. When you want a cake for a special occassion, go here. When you deserve a treat, go here. If you only have one mouth wateringly luscious, spectacular dessert this year, you know where to go, right?? A mainstay of Prospect Road and Adelaide in general, Muratti Cakes have been operating for a very long time. Their cafe looks the goods, however I have never dined there. My visits have been confined to the quick smash and grab with the credit card when I have been charged with bringing something in for morning tea at work, and in this sense they deliver in spades. I am sure you can put on at least 2kg just walking by, but if you actually go in you are greeted with all kings of wonderful sweet creations that add a sense of occasion to wherever you will take them to be consumed - be that the office morning tea, or a thoughtful gift for a hostess of a dinner party. You are never unwelcome if you turn up packing these babies. The other delight of their cakes and other sweets is that not only do they look intricate and architecturally constructed, but they are also properly made, by artisans of their craft who clearly enjoy what they do, so that the love and joy of creation shines through. The service is great. They thoughtfully make suggestions if you are getting a selection, are patient if you have trouble making up your mind, and will carry the goods to the car for you if you order too much for you to carry. I also appreciate the sturdy boxes they use so that they arrive intact and looking just as good as they did when you stabbed your trembling sugar deprived finger at the glass to pick them. If you are fortunate to get a park on Prospect Road that is all well and good, though if you can't there is good parking down the side street that Muratti is on, and in the carpark behind the building opposite. So for me, Muratti is a winner all 'round. read more

I have to agree with Stuart here. Outside of the cakes and chocolate store opposite Lucia's, this place does some of the best cakes and sweets in Adelaide. They also cater to a bunch of my favourite cafes in Adelaide, which is lucky because the Muratti's cafe is a little out of my way. My parents live in Prospect though, so I occasionally have lunch there with my Mum. This is a really pleasant place to have lunch or a coffee - big windows opening onto a view of the street, wood interior, a huge cake display and nice high stools and tables. If you want something savoury before your sweet, I recommend the smoked salmon roll. The savoury stuff here is really good too, no disappointments. But yep, it's all about the cakes/biscuits/sweets. read more
