Great walk along the Hiwassee River in Murphy,NC. Easy trail with boardwalk and primitive trail down to river bed.

Really nice place for a walk and some folklore! Pretty scenery and swings along the way. Even has audio tours to listen as you walk though I prefer the sound of the river. Parking was free and seemed safe.

This is a beautiful walking trail in Murphy that is easily accessible from downtown. The trail is well maintained and has some lovely views of the river and pretty mountain scenery. There are a few spots that have a bit of an incline, but nothing super challenging. It's a wonderful place to get outside and enjoy some exercise in a scenic location, and then you can venture right into town for a bite to eat if you work up an appetite!

Enjoyed walking on the Murphy River Walk our first morning in town on a recent vacation in the area. It's pretty, and on the part we walked on, there were occasional spots to sit and rest. Nice!

Oh how I wish we had so many more things like this in the area! This is a great peaceful hike right in downtown Murphy! The path has been gradually updated over the years and now has many beautiful areas to see with seating areas and information signs. This is a great place to take visitors or the grandkids to see the beauty that exists without having to travel hours to see a national park or forest. Even if your a runner you'll enjoy this river walk as a break to your normal running route. The path has multiple access points but is an 'out and back' style trail. So if you want to hike it be prepared to come back the same way you came. The path is mainly pea gravel and wood boardwalks. You will see the river, the old railroad bridge, and maybe even some local wildlife. For a nice afternoon adventure; park at Konehetta Park and then hike to the end of the trail near the old train depot, walk up to the center of town and pick a local favorite place to eat, and then just walk those calories off as you go back to your car along the path.

Kid friendly trail. The kids enjoyed the stories along the way that you can scan with your phone and listen to.

The Inner Lopp was great and a nice short loop for my 5yr old to go on for his first ever MTB trail ride. Trails are groomed pretty well and I can't wait to go back and try the 5 mile Gobbler Trail. Make sure to drive a vehicle you don't mind getting scratched by brush and can handle a moderately rough gravel access road. No way I'd take a nice car down this road. Trails aren't marked as you enter but are further up the trail where it has a junction. I'm sure this will change as the more permanent signs are made. Currently there are only two loops. You can go either way when the trail forks as they both return you back to the main trail head. The map on the website is what's planned for the future so don't plan your trip around that. I've added a pic of the current map that's at the junctions. I'm excited to see more recreation opportunities in Murphy. There are more trails in progress so stay tuned people, this a wonderful addition to the area.

I was in a 4WD truck, so I did. Once you turn off the paved road (294) you're on a Horrible washed out single lane gravel road. if you make it, maybe half a mile you come to a fork in the road (shooting range left / tower right). I took the right obviously, now you're on an even worse and smaller road. if you make THAT maybe a quarter mile and you come to a gate. that gate can be opened but it won't do you any good because 100 yards in there's a 2 ft diameter tree across the road, so you're walking. When I tell you its straight up, it's STRAIGHT UP. no easy gentle slopes, its STRAIGHT up. 3/4 mile straight up you get to the intersection of 85 and 85A. another half a mile STRAIGHT up. The advertised "half mile" is now almost a mile and a half. if you're slightly out of shape or have kids, forget it. we turned around, this was not worth it. Not as advertised. worst decision I made since I got here. the bugs eat you up, carry a gun, you never know what you're going to see up there. Bad Idea. Horrible experience, the view from the moon wouldn't be worth that terrible hike.
