We no longer live in that state and I have honestly never found a vet as good as she was. We have just started seeing Dr. Williamson, but after three visits, I already know that she's the best vet we've found since then. She may even be on the same level as our vet in Michigan. What sets Dr. Williamson apart -- and what reminds me of our old vet in Michigan -- is that she really cares. She never rushes an appointment. She always takes the amount of time that it takes, period. She answers all of my questions, explains things thoroughly and gives us good suggestions that are both smart and practical (because hey as much as we love our dogs, we aren't rich!). She also thinks ahead -- giving refills on meds so you don't have to bring your dog back in just to get a prescription and offering some good common sense advice in a calm, reassuring manner that makes me feel at ease. I also love that she and her staff are really thinking about how to make the vet a less terrifying place for animals, since our dogs are afraid of everything. They are currently testing "no stress" environments, avoiding using the overhead fluorescent light in favor of softer in-room lighting and even playing relaxing music. I know some people will laugh at that, but our dogs find the vet to be a really stressful experience (since bad or painful things usually happen there), and I at least really appreciate a vet that thinks about things from the dog's point of view. While the jury is still out on whether Dr. Williamson is as good as our Michigan vet, I can tell you that she is for sure our new regular vet. Best we've found in the Twin Cities. Don't let the location in a strip mall fool you -- this is an A+ vet clinic, and you should take your pets there.

I have German Shepherd dogs and they didn't seem comfortable or able to properly give them the care they needed. I brought my dog to Rockford Road Animal Hospital and it was a completely different experience. The vet techs and veterinarians there understood how to deal with this breed and were able to treat him and give him the care he needed. Whereas at Northwest Animal Hospital they "tried" treating him and were not able to and sent us away causing us to spend more money on additional appointments which resulted in my dog getting a delayed medical diagnosis he needed. I wouldn't recommend Northwest Animal Hospital for breeds of dogs that can be a bit more challenging. It's all about the approach and it was a day and night experience with Rockford Road Animal Hospital compared to them. I will continue bringing my cats there but I won't be bringing my dogs there again.

In picking up meds for our elderly cat, I noticed a "dispensing fee", even though they already mark up the meds by over 100% from what I pay on Chewy. When I asked about it, Dr. Melco said he was being transparent, but never told me about the fee. I noticed it when I received the receipt AFTER I paid. It looks really disingenuous when the vet says he is being transparent about a fee he did not tell me I was being charged. This is not an ethical business practice and we will be going elsewhere for our vet care from now on.

The vet wanted to run 3 different tests for conjunctivitis, and I was able to talk her down to 2 tests. The vet tech told me a rabies vaccination had to be given to my indoor cat as it was a state law. I told her I didn't want my cat getting a vaccination and asked her if it really was a state law and she said yes. I looked it up when I got home and it isn't a state law. When I called back and asked about being told something that wasn't true, it was explained to me that it is a policy in Maple Grove for all pets to be up to date on their rabies vaccination so they enforce that policy no matter where the owner lives since their clinic is located in Maple Grove. She said someone should have told me that when I called to make the appointment - but no one did. They also prescribed an eye ointment/medication that the 3 closest pharmacies to me did not carry, but one of them could order for $260. It took about 2 hours for North Paws to adjust the prescription to the medication the pharmacist recommended and to call it into the pharmacy where I was waiting so I could pick up (I was waiting in the parking lot the whole time and unable to be home to ensure my cat wasn't having an adverse side effect to the unwanted rabies vaccine). If you decide to take your pet here, I would plan to attempt to determine what your pet actually needs versus what they are recommending - it feels like you have to be an advocate for your pet as it appears their focus is on profit, even if that means deceiving the owner.

If you have ever owned an older pet, you know how many issues can crop up with age. My dog needed help with everything from arthritis medication, to a skin tag that turned into an open wound, to dental checks, to stomach issues (which required a diet change and minimal medication for a short time). Dr. Tawnia and staff have always resolved every issue with common sense, care and a very reasonable price tag. They also helped me with end of life care. This is always difficult as a pet owner and I really appreciated their help when my dog was ready to be put down recently. They also are good about the little things, such as when they made a clay paw print of my dog that I was able to take home and have as an ornament/keepsake. In short, I have had multiple successful visits and would have no reservation about recommending Dr. Tawnia and the staff at DVC to anyone who wants good service and care for their pet.

I would not recommend Delano Veterinary Clinic based on our experiences here…read more Our dog, Tamago, has allergies, and my husband called on Monday to refill his allergy medication. Initially, he was told they would not refill it until Tamago came in for a checkup, even though his next checkup isn't due until September. Apparently they ultimately did fill the prescription, but no one contacted us to let us know it was ready. Once we figured that out today, I planned to stop after work to pick it up. Their website says they are open until 5:00 PM on Fridays. The sign on their door says they are open until 5:00 PM. I arrived at 4:45 PM and the doors were already locked. I tried calling from outside and the call went straight to a recording saying they were closed and to call back during regular business hours -- which the recording itself says are until 5:00 PM on Fridays. What makes this especially frustrating is that they aren't open on weekends. Because they closed early despite every posted source saying they were open until 5:00, Tamago now has to wait until Monday to get relief from his allergies. Had their actual hours been communicated accurately, we obviously would have made other arrangements to pick up his medication earlier. Unfortunately, this is just the latest frustration we've had with this clinic. During previous appointments, we've found the doctors to be rude and judgmental rather than helpful and compassionate. We've also heard similar complaints from others in the community, particularly regarding their pricing and the cost of even basic services. Veterinary care is already stressful enough when your pet is uncomfortable. At a minimum, I expect clear communication, accurate posted hours, and respectful treatment. Our experiences with Delano Veterinary Clinic have consistently fallen short of that, and after this experience we will be looking for veterinary care elsewhere.
