I called back immediately, and it went to the IVR where it listed different lawyers. I picked one that was on the name of the firm (assuming it was a partner), informed them of what happened, and told them the person answering the phone needed some remedial training in customer service; after all, why hang up on someone when they could be a prospective client? I received a call the next day, and I believe it was the lawyer that I left a message for. His words: "We do do contract law, but we're not interested in working for you." Apparently, he was offended by my voicemail, claims the person who answered the phone has worked for him for over a decade, and he has never had an issue with her before. Her record has been broken. Here is the thing. If a company treats prospective clients in this manner, I fear how they treat current clients. We had a few words, and then I promptly told him ORC 2917.21 and hung up. If you don't want to work with me, that's fine. If you want to hang up on people, that's fine too; after all, it is your law firm. However, in this day & age, with social media, reviews are not uncommon; favorable, and unfavorable. While I may not be an "influencer" with millions of followers, if anyone asks me if I know a lawyer - for ANY issue - I will be sure to steer them clear of this firm. Very unprofessional behavior.
