Muse is tucked away in the Southeast corner of the 200 East Palmetto Park condominium, entrance from the street. Like almost everyone I know, you go to a salon because of a particular stylist or colorist who happens to work there. And I'm no different. I've been using the same stylist for more than 10 years, and in another life, before most of my Yelp friends were born, this guy was my stylist, in Great Neck, NY (for those who are curious), in the 70's and 80's [yeah, I'm old] His name is ALBERTO, and he is a seasoned professional. I always kid him cause he has no gray hair, although he is close to my age,, and I have almost all grey, with some white hair. ALBERTO is a pro, and actually starts every styling/cutting experience with a query "Is there anything I need to know about your hair, any problems or issues?", and I always answer "You've been cutting/styling my hair for more than 10 years, don't you know enough about it already, and can't you simply look at it and determine what needs to be done?" Of course, he then responds "Oh, you're in a bad mood today", and I say "no, I'm not, but that question doesn't really apply to me". I do understand why he asks it, I just like giving him a hard time! Most women, the majority of his clients are women, may have specific concerns which they want to bring to his attention, and he needs to know about them before he starts to perform his magic on their hair, creating their eventual "look". This is a long way of stating "He is a professional, cares about your look, and asks for input every time before he starts cutting away". Check him out... The salon is not huge, it is clean, well lit, nicely furnished, and relatively quiet. The music playing is good, streaming from somewhere, not a radio station with commercials, like some salons use. The clientele is diverse as to their age, and tends to be younger, rather than older. Valet Parking (free, other than a tip) is available from the condo building, access it from Palmetto Park Road, or Mizner Blvd. I cannot speak about their makeup, or hair extensions, as I have not have either done, and do not plan on it. I used to have lo-lights done by ALBERTO and he was quite good at it, but I'm all natural now. read more

Sadly - what seemed like a decent experience turned out to be a terrible. I had gotten my hair cut really short and wanted hair extensions to hold me over until it grew. Using google - I found Muse a hair salon. I went in that day for a consultation with Kimberly. She was really thorough and explained everything. I decided on tape ins but since it was really expensive - about $800 for 2 packs - I wanted to think about it. I left and called back later and asked to do just one pack. It ended up around $500 with the price they charge for wash and blow, plus the extensions. I was initially happy. I was told to come back in 8 weeks and it would be $150 to remove them and $150 to tape them back in. Plus extra for color, cut, blow. Sounded a bit expensive but it was a short term thing. Well about a week later - you could start to see the extension tape popping out of my head. It was at a concert. My husband saw it. I was mortified. To spend all that money to have the tap visible. I was super self conscious all night. I called the next day. They were nice about it and had me come in to have them fixed. This time someone else fixed them - Israel. My only issue here is he didn't wash my hair prior or dry it. And it was dirty. That's not good for taping in fresh extensions one because you can't wash your hair for a day and two - they can slide on the oily hair. It took no time at all and I'm sure he wasn't happy he had to do this for free. I did tip him anyway. The salon didn't refund any money for the mess up. I felt they should have. I will say Israel placed the extensions so much better. I had no issues with them for 8 weeks. He did a really good job. That's why I have 2 Stars instead of one. Israel wanted me to come back for cut, highlights and to maintain the extensions to the tune of around $600 all in. I told him my hair was fragile - that's why I cut it and was worried about bleach but he said it would be fine. While he was working - the girl from the Medi spa came to talk to me and push something like cool sculpting to remove fat. Okay - probably don't push cosmetic stuff on hair salon clients. That's rude. Also I was interested in getting a couture halo (head piece to wear for nights out) and it was $650 at Muse. I called another salon down the road (Sima) and it was $350! Wholesale is $200. So you can see the huge mark up. I found a new stylist elsewhere to maintain my extensions. And for half the price. My new stylist told me not to highlight because my hair was too fragile. She actually cared about the health of my hair. (Lizett Allen). Overall it was a terrible experience and very expensive. If money is no object - I still wouldn't go because they didn't really handle this right. They tried to reduce the price of my next tape in by $150 but it was still going to be $600 plus tip instead of $750. It just wasn't good enough. Even if I could afford that - my first experience with malfunctioning tape ins was enough to never come back. read more

I went to see Joseph after many years of not being in salon today. I was fired from my hairdresser of 7 years this morning..he wasn't going to do my hair anymore. So Joseph to my rescue! They removed all the crap color that took about 25 minutes and I am back to normal. My hair looks healthy and he was so happy to see me. My 9 year old daughter has been to this salon about 3 times to have her hair done. It's been approximately 2 years since she's been here but I needed to have her hair done as soon as possible as her stylist is out of the country. I called the salon and asked for tbe stylist who did her hair previously but she's no longer there. The receptionist Sasha offered the owner to do my daughters hair and I accepted. I SPECIFICALLY asked if he was familiar with ethnic hair that's very curly. She assured me that he was and she reiterated he was the owner, has been in tbe business for a long time, and he's worked on all types of hair. Well, we arrive at tbe salon and immediately we are turned down for service. I spoke to the owner who had no shame in telling me he doesn't do our kind of hAir. Yes, we are people with melanin. My daughter was embarrassed and her feelings were very hurt. I would never recommend this salon to anyone who believes in putting people first, and customer service. This man was not up to learning and expanding his knowledge base when it comes to working with all kinds of hair. He was okay with outright turning us down without even an attempt to grow and develop. He was okay with hurting my daughters feelings and that my friend is not okay. I'm confident you will not be in business much longer. Hence your relocation to a hidden location in almost Deerfield Beach because downtown Boca got to be too much for you. They are ok but not the best. I feel like some of the people there are either intoxicated or just plain kooky. It's a funny thing to try to explain unless you experience it.. I went there a while ago and from the moment I walked in I felt a strange energy. Everyone was super uptight and almost acted as if they doing me a favor. Like, hello, aren't I paying you lots of money? Have you ever heard about customer service. Anyways the hairstylist that was coloring my hair smelt like cigarettes and alcohol and I could hear them chit chattering when he walked away. Such an unfriendly and catty salon... Very happy with my short haircut by Joseph and highlights by Holly! I'm a challenge - fine, thinning hair. Joseph took time and was precise. He's been cutting hair for 40 years and it's evident that he knows what he is doing. I wanted caramel highlights - Holly delivered perfection. Steer clear of this place. Botched extension job and crooked cut. Extensions fell out of my hair the 2nd day before I even washed it or went in the ocean (Pamela's response below blaming the ocean is completely false! My hair fell out while it was still completely dry.) The owner, Joe, refused to call me back and wrote me a note saying the extensions must have been faulty and he stands by his stylists even though my hair was falling out. You would hope they would make it right and give me a refund. But since they stand by unsatisfactory outcomes (see photos), I need to warn others. read more

Muse has been my go-to salon since I first wrote this review (Feb 2013) and I wouldn't change a thing! Muse has expanded to include make-up services & eyebrow threading, all done by the creator of the "Halo" makeup line, Israel Edri. Let me tell you, I've never had threading done before and I am SO happy that Israel was the first person to do it! He has literally designed my eyebrows, created a gorgeous arch, and that in turn, opened up my eyes. My stylist, Holly, is the only person I trust with my hair. Our entire family has their hair cut by Joseph (owner) even though we moved to Orlando 2 years ago. My daughter who is 27 will not let anyone else cut her hair because of some bad cuts and hairdressers that do not listen or don't know how to cut her hair. Typical of so many salons...they spend extra time on a new customer. They make sure everything is to the customer's wishes. Everything looks great. Then, when they think they have a regular customer, they do whatever they please. Uneven, no layers, hair falls flat on top because it wasn't touched. The operator said it was because my perm had grown out but I had rods put in, just on top about a month ago. I am sorry about this because now I have to find someone who will try to make a good impression on me with their skills and not tell me to be quiet when I tell them the way I want my hair. read more

THIS IS A GREAT SALON! Joseph is a fabulous hair dresser and I give him and the Salon an A++. I moved here from Manhattan 2 years ago, and continued to have my hair styled there, because I did not trust the salons here to do a god job on my thick, coarse, frizz prone hair. When Muse moved across the street I decided to give them a try and I am very, very glad I did. The haircut that Joseph gave me has allowed me to give up Keratin and retain my curl but tame it. It is July in Florida and I am happy without Keratin- something of a miracle for my hair. The color he gave me is also amazing and my blowout lasted through a 4 day weekend in San Francisco (another first). The highest accolade I can give him is that my hyper critical mother even complemented my hair when she saw it. (yet another first). I don't normally take the time out to review a place but I think Muse (and Joseph) deserve it and I only wish I had found them sooner. From the front desk to the guy who washes my hair I could not be happier. This is a class act. read more
