The museum is amazing, really nice day activity. Would rate it 5/5 for the museum itself!…read more
However the animals encountered were treated far from pleasant.
I saw an adult cow tied up in a 2m by 2m cowshed with a 0,5m cable around their neck (see pictures). Beside was a young cow, not fully grown, staying in a separate 1 by 1m cage. Both the cows did not have access to food, socialising or water. The adult cow was not able to move freely, having difficulties getting rid of the flies swarming and laying down in their own urine and feces. Both cows were in clear distress.
Further on I saw 3 goats, al in the same stable separated by a wall between each goat. The goats seemed to seek attention from the guests walking by, bleating and standing in their window. Their stable was dark and did not seem to provide basic necessities such as socialising and food/grass. They did not have a possibility to go outside.
The chickens and geese did seem to have a nice yard including a pond. The turkeys and bigger birds did not have this, they had a closed sanctuary without access to grass.
Also noticeable was that the pigs, who had access to both inside and outside facilities, did not have access to grass. Also the mud pool was incredibly small, not even the size of the pig itself.
I also encountered 3 horses, staying in a dark stable. The floor was empty without any bedding. The horses, who are normally used to transport humans by carriage, did not seem to want any attention. Instead they faced a dark and cold wall.
The donkeys did walk in a grass field. They did seek human interaction, staying by the gate most of the time.
Also important to note that it's prohibited to touch or feed the animals.
Overall the museum was nice and the time spent was well. Seeing the animals treated so badly did kind of ruin my experience. In my opinion it's unacceptable to tie up an adult cow to a cable 0,5m.
By writing this review I hope the museum will take its responsibility in treating the animals better and respect them as living beings rather as part of the museum.
Beside this I would recommend this museum as it is very entertaining and calm.
