Whether or not it is truly the largest automobile collection in the world, it is undoubtedly one of the most impressive collections of historic automobiles you'll ever see, particularly from the pre-1900 and early 20th-century eras.
The exhibits begin with an extensive display of hood ornaments before leading visitors through the evolution of the automobile. Highlights include rare and beautifully preserved vehicles from manufacturers such as Bugatti, Mercedes-Benz, Maserati, Peugeot, Ferrari, Aston Martin, Alfa Romeo, Renault, and many others. From elegant touring cars and luxury sedans to racing machines and Formula One cars, there is something here for every automotive enthusiast.
Plan to spend a half a day exploring the museum, as the collection is enormous and there is far more to see than most visitors expect. Bring a fully charged phone--you'll be taking plenty of photos. The museum is located in Mulhouse. You can take the train or drive as I did from Colmar which is only - 50 minutes drive. It's a great attraction of the Alsace region.
