Built in his hometown and on the ruins of an old municipal theatre, where his first public exhibition took place as a child. It's now the world's largest collection of his work with over 1500 pieces. Salvador Dalí is a workforce. His brain was magic and I'm so happy he took us to his incredible world of fantasies and surrealism. Getting to see his greatest and last work of all time and being able to sit right on the place where his body rests as you admire the room, ceilings, walls, sounds and work of the greatest surrealist of all time, is something I will never forget. An absolute experience of a lifetime. Heart thumps, goosebumps, knees weak arms are heavy, mom's spaghetti type of experience. He created the world's largest surrealist object and got buried right in the glass dome he designed as his "final surrealistic act". He literally became a part of his greatest work of art. It's an honor to know his work and to be able to get to visit a place like this is a huge privilege I will never forget. It's not just a gallery but a surreal playground.

We stumbled upon this museum after arriving to Figueres for a day trip with the intention of visiting the Dalí museum. Had a couple extra hours before our timed ticket to the Dalí Museum so wandered around town. As we walked past the entrance to this museum, the toys intrigued us so we decided to check it out. It's a simple two story building with rooms laid out by historical period and subdivided into display sections by category of toy. You start from the top and wind your way down back towards the entryway. There must be tens of thousands of different toys, so intricate and detailed. Everything from playing cards, dolls, house-keeping sets, magic, animation, robots, stuffed animals, action figures... It's a joy to take it all in, though I must say probably more enjoyable for adults since there's not many interactive displays considering the aim seems to be mostly preservation and education. Also more enjoyable if you like admiring the details. I cut half a star aren't many display signs in English or other languages, but my friends and I really liked taking our time and simply appreciating the variety and walking down memory lane as these toys stoked our inner-5-year-old's imagination.

It's a one-way road and it's very narrow road going up a hill. I was there 20 minutes before my appointment time and I was declined entrance because I wasn't there 30 minutes before. I bought two tickets just in case I was late after I showed her my other ticket that I was on time and they still didn't let me go inside. The staff was very rude and did not have compassion towards humanity. I am also handicapped and cannot walk fast and they did not care. I am very disappointed with the staff. I tried to buy another ticket for the next day, but the entire month was booked already. Shame on these people. I had other staff saying that they will let me in, but it's not up to them and that they agreed that the people in the front behind the glass were wrong Hijos de puta Los trabajadores de la entrada. No tienes compasión con la gente. I am a you tuber and letting me inn would have helped business instead millions will know my experience!

He had to get written approval from her to visit. The home was unique and very Dali but the gardens were my favorite part. Little surprises hidden among the trees and birds! You cannot take photos inside the home but are allowed to photograph the garden. This is chronologically the third stop you should take on the Dali triangle tour but I found time wise that it was best to start here in Pubol, travel to Port Lligat for Dali's home, and finish with the museum in Figueres. All three can be done in one day with careful planning.

I only noticed weeks later when I finally read the brochure. Wasn't that stupid of me? Don't answer that. Anyway, while Museo del Cau Ferrat represents one man's collection of art, this more expansive exhibit represents the collection of not an artist but a wealthy benefactor. It was American magnate and philanthropist Charles Deering. Yes, the guy who founded International Harvester. Apparently, making his fortune in tractors meant he could afford three floors of art that spans ten centuries of art from the 10th to the 20th century. The style varies from Romanesque and Gothic to Renaissance and Baroque to Modernism. The mirador was particularly striking with the neoclassical statuary set against the Mediterranean background. We came for the 8a Get Your Guide tour of Monserrat. We met at the meet-up point (Julia Travel…read moreCenter at the Barcelona Nord bus station, in Barcelona) to checkin for our trip. We met our tour guide Jose Carlos and our driver, Gemma and were on our way. We made a stop at a local train station, exited the motorcoach, and took the scenic train up to Montserrat. Once at Monserrat, we went on a guided tour (equipped with one-ear headphones to hear our tour guide) of the Basilica, viewing the Black Madonna (included with the tour ticket) and having a couple of hours of free time to explore Montserrat with the great instructions provided by Jose Carlos. We hiked up to see the cross, took part in the four liquor tasting (provided with the tour ticket), and saw the "stairway to heaven" a block sculpture with ascending stairs to the sky (thanks to our tour guide Jose Carlos, who gave us directions to where it was...behind the buffet building!) There was an interactive museum on Montserrat ($) as well as a museum ($) with art from Dali, Picasso, just to name a few, and white tents lined the sidewalk with local vendors featuring their local cheese, nuts, and other food items. Montserrat is where you can also see and hear the boy's choir in the Basilica, but that show began at 1p and our tour left at 12.10p (maybe on another visit!) All in all, we enjoyed this scenic, history-filled tour. Jose Carlos was an excellent tour guide, and we appreciated his expertise in all of the details of this tour; Gemma, our bus driver, was pleasant and professional in providing a safe, comfortable drive to and from Montserrat. We highly suggest this tour if you are in Barcelona for a couple of days.

Beautiful monastery, located against the backdrop of the Montserrat mountain where the peaks are…read moreliterally surrounding the monastery. The Cathedral that is at the heart of this monastery is very ornate and gorgeous with classic European craftsmanship from an age gone by clearly visible throughout the cathedral. As beautiful as the monastery is, the elevated views from this location are drop dead gorgeous and worth the trip alone. Unfortunately, on the day we visited, there was a mass going on where they closed viewing of the black Madonna for the day to not be in conflict with the mass which is standard practice. So you need to keep an eye on this if you plan to visit this site. The other negative thing is that the place was slammed with tourist and I felt that the outlying buildings were completely commercialized to sell trinkets to the tourist that visit. I personally am not a fan when places of worship do this, but I do understand that this type of operation probably funds the maintenance and operation of monastery year-round and is probably a necessary evil in this case. All in all, this is one of the main attractions in the Barcelona area and should be included on any itinerary during your visit here. Opportunities to see beauty like this along with it's historical relevance are far few and in between and should be taken advantage of anytime you're given this opportunity.

The museum itself contains rather formal displays of the history of the area from prehistoric times onwards, but the Romanesque architecture of the church, and of the octagonal bell-tower and the cloister, with columns and pillars topped with capitals decorated with plants and scenes from the Gospels, in particular, are a delight: in fact, they are regarded as among the best examples of Romanesque architecture in Catalonia. The church also has a delightful setting, with squares and gardens on three sides. Adjacent to the church, across the road at the west front, is the small but attractive Romanesque funerary chapel of Sant Nicolai, with a classic trefoil-plan apse. It was built at the same time as Sant Pere, and was originally part of the same complex.
