The tour to see the drivers and various cars were a treat and made our experience even more enjoyable. We had fun watching exciting races and we're amazed that drivers as young as 12 were able to participate. This place is a pretty low key, fun weekend event venue that I'm so glad we were able to come tonight. I would've never found out this special ABQ gem if it wasn't for your BBBS invitation! We had a great time!! Thank you

There's a ton of fun to be had for peanuts out at the Sandia Speedway! As a newbie to the ABQ, I'm still trying to find my way around and find fun things to do. I was pleasantly surprised to find out there was a speedway here in Albuquerque. I don't exactly classify myself as a "Gear Head," but it's still a fun evening, and at only 10 bucks per carload, how can you go wrong? Seriously, 10 bucks per carload, did you read that part? We went on a Friday night, which was apparently the last night of the season for the asphalt track, and I'm glad we did. It's a 3/8 mile oval asphalt track with several different classes of cars racing and a couple heats per class as well. It was indeed fun! I was surprised though, as the stands will hold an easy 1,500 spectators I'm sure, but if there were 100 people there, I'd be amazed. Just no support from the locals. I imagine if you were to pick up this entire speedway and transport it to the middle of the Carolinas, or in the middle of Georgia, anywhere in the south really, the stands would be full every night. It just must be a cultural thing and a lack of advertising maybe. In addition to the asphalt track, there's also a clay oval track where wing sprint cars race, and that can be a lot of fun to watch as well. I do believe the cost to enter that part of the speedway is a bit more though. Check for yourself, but it will still be very reasonable I'm certain, but I know all kids under 10 are free. And finally, motocross races there as well. They really run the gamut of the type of racing and class levels offered. Oh, and I'd be remiss if I did not mention that there were a lot of female race car drivers out there. Not as if we should be surprised by that, but it was still neat to see equality in full race mode. There are concessions and they do accept cards. Just take a peek, you might enjoy yourself!

It is nice for the drivers! Prices to get in for regular racing is $10, $20 to race. Special days are $15 entrance fee. Not bad for an entire evening or afternoon of racing fun. People bring their kids, pets, spouses, and dates to the races. It is nice to see all the people enjoying the race fuel smells. There is food available as well. I have not tried the food, this year, but in years past the food has been good. Not cheap, but not too expensive either. Get there early or little later to avoid lines getting in the gate, although I don't think the line died down at all opening day. I was one that wasted time getting out there, and waited in the line. There are two lines once you get close enough to the gate. For payment, have it ready when you pull up, exact cash gets you in and on your way the quickest, credit card takes a little longer (only one reader for the 2 lines), and they do accept checks. I will never know how quick or slow that process takes, since I don't write checks! The line no matter how you decide to pay moves quick and parking is plenty. My daughter has raced there and liked it. Her first time racing, the people were nice and helpful. The racer were also encouraging and offered tips. If you feel the need for speed, do it at a track not the street! This is a great place to race against your own time or race against others. As a spectator I like to see all types and all kinds of racing!
