WOW, what FUN!!! Son wanted to celebrate his bday in Bean town. Let me chose some things to do and we landed here. I've seen pictures and a video marketing promo and it looked like a good time. Purchased tickets on line for three adults took a screen shot of my receipt and Boston bound we went. Arrived earlier than anticipated so walked Fanuiel Hall and the area. Too early so many things were not open at 9a on a Saturday. The doors opened at 10a. While waiting I attempted to open the app needed to get your tickets and lo and behold the app crashes before we even get through the door. Thank God I took a screen shot of the receipt. Doors open and three families ahead of us go I and get checked in. Then it was our turn we were an hour early, no problem. The app crashed and I can't get my tickets, no problem reservations under our name! Done! Got our hands stamped and off we went. First exhibit was the moving eyes, then the crooked room then the hotel plunge. That closed when it was our turn, they needed to wash the floor. No problem we've got so much more ahead of us. The exhibits are for all ages although I think younger minds might not fully what is going on. A woman with her three children had a three year old who hated it. Then liked the more hands on wooden puzzles. There are optical illusions you simply spin or slide. Illusions where staff help you create an illusion to bring home. There was one exhibit that had both my guys, grown adults, saying let's do it again, let's do it again!! I cannot recommend this venue enough. Not local? Plan a trip here, located in Faneuil Hall and Quincy Market. Come early because the longer it is open the more people come through. Every hour on the hour. read more

We visited the Museum of Illusions in Boston after having gone to the WNDR Museum last year, which we thoroughly enjoyed, so we expected a somewhat comparable experience. Unfortunately, this visit was disappointing. At $40 per person, the admission price feels significantly disproportionate to the experience offered. A more appropriate price point would likely fall in the $15-$20 range. Our group of five completed the entire exhibit in just 19 minutes -- and that included time spent taking photos, reading the informational descriptions, and engaging with each installation. While some of the exhibits are visually interesting and certainly "trippy," the overall footprint of the museum is quite small and limited in scope. Additionally, several of the installations can be disorienting. Individuals who are prone to nausea, motion sensitivity, or vertigo may want to reconsider visiting, as parts of the experience could be uncomfortable. Overall, all five of us left feeling dissatisfied with the value relative to the cost. Based on our experience, we would not recommend it at its current price point. read more

I really like the location of this place because I feel like fanueil hall definitely does need more. However, I just think it needs to have more rooms because it's not very large so it doesn't take very long to go through and on top of that it's kind of expensive for what it is. The staff there is very friendly and do want to help. However, there's only one of them, so it's kind of hard to get them to take pictures of every single group that comes in. I would probably never go back, but that's just because there isn't anything new win exciting there, but I do think it's worth checking out. read more

Teachers go free, which is nice considering you are paying $40 a person to walk through a 20 minute hallway of a few experiences and pictures on walls that have "optical illusions" like the ones you see when scrolling online. When we entered the museum, we were told at the counter, to buy our tickets online so we could get a five dollar discount but whether you buy them online or in person you still have to pay a processing fee, which didn't make sense to me at all. We were very disappointed in this museum. I would not recommend it to anyone. Waste of time and money. As other parties were leaving they all seemed annoyed as well saying "okay, now what should we do.." luckily it was a beautiful day so we could walk around and go have lunch. But driving two hours there and two hours home for 20 minute museum was just absolutely ridiculous. Online and videos make it seem a lot more intense and hands on. Also - We parked at the garage that was suggested on the website paid online and had a discount which was great. The parking lot was only a two minute walk. read more

Gotta say I was pretty disappointed. If I were basing this on my own experience alone, I'd give it 1 star, but it's just not good for solo visitors. It's probably better if you have someone with you and certainly better for kids than adults. There were a few parts that are cool photo ops -- if you're with someone who can take a picture. And there were a couple of features that specifically said they work best with two people. The wall illusions that don't need a partner were mostly lame -- either things I've already seen before or things I didn't get at all. Like do x and notice y. But I did x and never noticed the illusion they were talking about. The kids there seemed really into it, but this is not the place for an adult to pass the time (despite what ChatGPT told me - haha!). They really need to advertise this as a children's attraction and/or maybe offer a discount for solo visitors who can't take advantage of the cool photo op and multi-person parts. If it had been half the price, that would've been fine, but at nearly $40 to walk around for 15-20 minutes...nope. read more

Decided to take day trip into Boston and check out The Museum of Illusions with our 2.5yr old daughter. It was free for her and about $38 per adult so around $76 which we decided to splurge but on pricey side for weekend activity. Located right in Fanuiel Hall Marketplace above The Loft. Easy to get to and Parking right around the corner. Our daughter was in a mood as is any 2.5 yr old after a nap. But my husband and I had fun time. The lighted tunnel was fun until we both got vertigo All and all was nice day to get out would I go back probably not. But just because the cost personally. But fun daytime activity. read more

The people who work there did a great job helping with taking pictures for me and my friends (who went through here with me) or giving us help when it was needed. The Museum of Illusions in Boston was a fun experience, overall! It's super interactive and has cool exhibits that really mess with your mind, though I still found it underwhelming. We went at 5 PM, and the entrance was $40. We did book in advance. I don't think it would truly matter I don't suspect the place gets packed at once. We had to go up the stairs to get in, so I'm not sure how accessible it is for everyone. That's something to keep in mind. The front desk staff was super friendly and helpful. We were a little late for our reservation, and they didn't mention it at all, which we were honestly worried about. As soon as you walk in, there are a bunch of interactive things that instantly make you question your eyesight. The wildest one was this tunnel that makes you feel like you're spinning but you're actually not. That one made me dizzy, so I probably won't be doing that again! Some displays were out of order, but most of them worked fine. Each illusion had a sample photo to guide you, though a few were still confusing but luckily, the staff was really helpful and even offered to take pictures for us, which was nice. You can get through the whole place pretty quickly -- about half an hour so it's a fun stop if you're already in the area or looking to add something extra to your day. They also have a cute little shop at the end of the trail that was fun to browse. That said, it's not really something I'm dying to go back to. I think kids would probably find it more appealing overall. Parking-wise, I'm sure if you looked for a while you could find street parking, but I always prefer the safe call and book a garage instead. All in all, it was a cool experience. Instead it was mostly old ideas like an entire room devoted to the stroboscopic photography from the 40s and 50s for example and with few pictures. The AI exhibit was mostly historical not what is happening today. Not worth the money and time. read more

I went on a field trip with my daughters 3rd grade class. It was nice that they had the museum open to only our class. The location is easy to get to - right above The Loft at the Fanuiel Hall marketplace. You do have to go up a flight of stairs but I believe I saw a sign for an elevator. When you get inside you check in at the front desk and there is a small gift shop. There are not many exhibits, it took our group about 20 minutes to walk through. While it is fun, it is not something to fill up a lot of time. Also looking at the prices, it seems to be priced a bit higher than it is worth. But if you have kids, check it out - they will probably love it! read more

Enjoyed my visit with friends yesterday but it was not worth the $40 admission price. The employees were very friendly and offered to take pics. Took about 45 minutes to go through the whole exhibit including stopping for photos. I did appreciate the fact they had hand sanitizer dispensers throughout the exhibit. You won't be here very long (unless you spend a lot of time at the puzzles) but you should find something engaging while you're here. I visited this new attraction in Quincy Market yesterday and had a GREAT time with my sister. There are interesting exhibits to learn about optical illusions, but this is mainly a photo place! Try to go when it's not too crowded. Because we went on Thanksgiving Day when it wasn't packed, we were able to take our time and get some fun shots - some of them take practice to get right. The staff was super helpful in this regard. It's not a big place but they fit a lot into a small space. We were there for an hour, but it might have taken longer if it were crowded. There were a few little kids there. On two occasions we heard staff trying to stop them from sticking fingers into exhibits and there was one illusion involving a toy car that got messed up because a child grabbed the car. I'd say kids need to be 8-10 to understand what the museum is about. The little ones see blinking lights and things to grab, not art/illusions. Finally, this would be a great date place! But go before dinner because a few of the immersive features might make you nauseous on a full stomach! read more

Amazing! Went with our two kids (five and three years old). The Ames Room and The Vortex are worth it alone. It has a very museum vibe and so many things to interact with. I highly recommend a visit. You could do it quickly in an hour or comfortably in an hour and a half. They have free lockers if you're out and about and need to store stuff. read more

We were on day 3 of our Boston vacation and, after hours on the Freedom Trail, which my wife and I found fascinating, we were looking for something that our nine year old would enjoy. The Museum of Illusions looked like fun and we were not disappointed. I get what some people say about there being optical illusions you can see online, because there is some of that, but there are also great photo ops, interactive exhibits I've never seen anywhere else, and staff members throughout ready to explain the way the illusions work and snap photos of the entire family in funny and optically interesting situations. There was a guy whose name I didn't get, unfortunately, who was a master at timing the mid-air shots (which I could not time properly), and an employee named Emily who was super helpful and fun throughout. My nine year old gives it a 9 1/2 out of ten; for a vacation activity, I definitely give it a 5 out of 5. read more

This should be called the Museum of Optical Illusion, because that's what it is, and if you, like me, have motion sickness, it is the museum of nausea. Most of the still exhibits are simply explanations of things I've seen before, while the more motion-oriented exhibits are vomit-inducing. The museum was pretty good. They do have good illusions, but there needs to be more things to see. There are several illusions you can interact with. The staff was helpful and they even will help take your picture. It's sometimes difficult to take a picture and experience some of the exhibits, so this is really helpful. The gift shop could be better and some of the same items are sold in the stall outside of the museum. It was pricey, and maybe there could be more exhibits for the price that you pay, but there were some good illusions to see. read more

Fun museum located near Faneuil hall. They have other locations around the U.S. I came here for a birthday party. We ended up spending several hours inside. We got tickets in advance online. We quickly put our things away in their complimentary combination lockers. The team was super friendly as we checked in. They try to manage the crowd by creating groups broken up by time slot. But with all the fun exhibits and photo opportunity; it can take a while. We patiently waited in line for each exhibit, so that we could get our photo opportunities. At each of the big photo stations, there is a member of their team. Everyone was friendly and helpful. They assisted with talking photos, suggesting poses and adjusted photos for optimal effect of each exhibit. We easily spent a hour before we got to the puzzle room. Where there are several puzzles to play with. 2+ hours later we got hungry and finally had to leave. Great spot, highly recommended. read more

I took my 11 year old sister here and spent 120$ on entry. Given how expensive it was I figured looking through the museum would take at least an hour. (also what it says online) It took us exactly 14 minutes to make our way and play through the entire museum. Given this is a family place I figured there would be many kids. But the kids who were there were very rude and cut us off in almost every room! Cutting us off and running into us every turn we took. Their parents were no where to be seen and all 5 kids were running around the entire museum. This made our experience absolutely aggravating. I will not be returning or recommending anyone I know to go there. Even told the folks walking in not to waste their time. read more
