The kitchen and dining room were very clean and the staff very friendly and helpful. They had real dishes, silverware and glasses/cups. There was no paper or styrofoam dishes. That was an unexpected treat. A special shout-out to Kesha who was at the front desk the morning we checked out. She was so friendly and went above and beyond to help us out that morning. Thank you, Kesha. We really appreciate you!! Thank you to all the hard-working staff who made our stay so lovely. It was a nice welcome and first impression of Alaska.

Wanted to catch the MLB NLDS game since the Hot Springs is a total dead zone. Bartender, Victoria, was a pleasure to talk to. Another patron interjected my liquor questions to: "go with the whiskey." Alright, will do. Dodgers won! Got my drink covered on another's tab. All was a good night! Btw: the restroom code is almost as long as a SSN. Victoria writes it down for you so you're not having to memorize it (at however many drinks you're at). Oh, fun fact: one of the very very few hotels that has their own bar in area.

We have "blackout blinds" but it is never totally dark CanoeAlaska was wonderful to us I have paddleboarded but a canoe I have not done since Girl Scouts so I was afraid (mostly of tipping over and landing in cold water... I was on Varsity Swim Team in High School and University) CanoeAlaska was super cool I could have worn a bikini if I wanted lol They were so patient, provided me with a life vest and kind instruction For a Midwest gal, I am kinda a CanoeAlaska Expert now!! If you go to Alaska (or live there) give CanoeAlaska a try!!! FYI: The mosquitoes in Alaska are the worst!!

This will be a long review: Our stay was for 4 nights, Queen bed…read more This review will not only cover our 4 nights, but important factors too, that enhanced our stay. * As one reviewer phrased Hotel North Pole, "Clean room, queen bed, basic amenities.", and it's just that - a no-frills hotel. But what this hotel does and with the wonderful staff they employee - truly amazing people we encountered - they must be doing something right? * Our room was spacious, clean and smelled nice. There was a small fridge, microwave and coffee maker. But considering we only shopped at the local Safeway for a few goodies and such, the hotel does not sell, the 'fridge size was adequate. * Not a lot of plugs in the room for charging, but it was still enough to charge our two phones, plus we don't travel with a lot of devices that need plugs. * Our bed - comfortable as were the pillows. The room, warm enough, and we did not need to pull extra blankets from the closet. * We want to give a huge shout out to the entire staff, from house keeping, to the employees manning the front desk. Extremely kind and helpful, and they will go out of their way to make certain your stay at their hotel is a pleasant one. A kind, front desk employee (Was his name, Jason?) when he learned our goal returning to Alaska was to see the Borealis, he explained that if he sees it, he will phone our room to alert us. And I said yes! He phoned the same night (While done with his shift and walking to his car, he could see them from the Northern portion of the sky, although they were not super strong.), we were grateful for the tip. We dressed warmly and went outside in the late-cold night. We thanked Jason before he drove away. It was my husband who spotted a green Aurora that only appeared for a few seconds before vanishing. I was standing at a different area outside the hotel, and did not see what my husband spotted. And the next morning, a front desk staff member, gave me a hint where to possibly see the Northern Lights from the hotel - weather permitting, and it was appreciated. * Another major plus of Hotel North Pole: No matter the time, there is ALWAYS someone available at the front desk. And this was proved true, when a guide we hired to see the Northern Lights picked us up at the hotel at 10:30 pm and dropped us off - if I remember correctly - about 12:45 am. Not only was the front doors open, but we were greeted by the front desk clerk. A bit about the Northern Lights: When I initially inquired if the staff knew of a really good guide they could recommend to see the Aurora Borealis (Aside from the brochures at the front desk, those tours did not work for our schedule.) a sweet lady at the front desk (Sorry, didn't get her name.) handed me the business card of Dave G. She mentioned, he came highly recommended by former guests. And she was spot on! Dave G. (Garner), an independent driver who handles personalized tours from North Pole, Fairbanks, Denali, Airport Service, etc., has a very comfortable Toyota Highlander. His fee to take us to Chena Lakes (Frozen lakes.) to catch the "Lights" was very reasonable. We liked Dave's easy-going demeanor, funny banter and honesty, and with his guidance (We were "Newbies" (my words) seeing the Auroras.) our trip to Alaska was made that much richer, because on a clear-cold Saturday night between 11pm - 12:15 am, the beautiful green lights came out to play! I wanted to include him in this review, because he was an integral part of our positive stay at the hotel. But back to our stay: * We brought along our laptop and had no problems using the hotel's WIFI, although I have read from other reviewers, that some guests have stated that there was no WIFI available upon their stay. We didn't encounter that problem. * THE ONE DOWNSIDE: The shower curtain DOES NOT span the entire length of the shower nor does it goes all the way down. It can be challenging keeping the floor dry. * The Continental Breakfast deserves mentioning . . . Considering the hotel DOES NOT have a working kitchen, DO NOT EXPECT TO FIND: Potatoes; eggs of any kind; bacon; ham; sausage; or anything that the staff would have to cook every morning. But what THEY DO PROVIDE IS SUFFICIENT TO FILL A HUNGRY BELLY: Waffles; yogurts; bagels; English Muffins; mini donuts; cereal; milk; canned juices; coffee; tea; hot chocolate packets; hot apple cider packets; fresh fruit; and an assortment of frozen breakfast items like, Jimmy Dean frozen products, and some type of breakfast burritos. They have a small store in the lobby that sells: Candy; soda; energy drinks; Fudgsicles; microwaveable meals; and small items you might need. On a warm day, 38 above zero , we walked (yep, carefully through the snow!) to the Santa Claus House, around a mile away. Opened, all year around, and a must see with their live reindeer on premises. Skip going to Wendy's, it's closed, but the McDonald's is open. Hotel North Pole, 5 out of Five Stars.

The lodging in the glass ceiling igloos was spacious and warm for the two of us. Beds were very comfortable, looking up at the norther sky. The restrooms had a spacious shower. There is a small coffee bar with assortments of coffees and teas and a small fridge. One welcome feature was the in room phone that served as a wake up call when the Auroras were visible, no matter the time. We could fall off to sleep knowing if the auroras appeared we wouldn't miss them. The dining options started with a free complete breakfast all you can eat buffet with a made to order omelet station. We had the choice of eating lunch and dinner at The Pub that offered delicious pub type foods, complete with beer, wine and cocktails. For a more upscale meal, we reserved a table at the Latitude 65 restaurant. The flavors and presentation of the meals were top notch. During the day we made use of a few of the adventure center tours. The 3 hour snow machine trip was a blast. We rode out on well groomed trails with a experienced guide. Our snow machines were top notch, even with heated handle bar grips. They supplied us with extremely warm bibs and parkas for a comfortable trip. The next day we experienced an amazing 1 hour dog sled ride with a local musher. We got to interact and pet the dogs before and after our tour. a wonderful experience. I could go on and on but I couldn't say enough good things about my wife and I's experience here a the Borealis Basecamp. A truly bucket list trip.

You get a way place to stay with included bathroom, snacks,…read moredrinks, and Expert hosts on the aurora, cameras, etc. And they will do photos of you that they include for free. So take as much as you can. And they video the time-lapse and include that for free as well. We drove and parked ourselves. First time using our camera for aurora photography. The hosts was very helpful and knew all the settings to our sony camera. They open 10pm and close at 2am but if the aurora is still strong they are willing to stay longer as well. Very accomodating!
