But after walking in, I wound up staying an extra 10 minutes marveling at the beauty of the store and it's impressive record selection. There are plenty of vinyl selection available for purchase; plus you can order whatever they don't carry and pick it up at the store (hence the Foo Fighters album). Plus there's cds and cassette tapes adorning the shelves that brings some 80's-90's nostalgia. And they are available for purchase. The store is family-run with owners who are nice and welcoming. We made some small talk and I mentioned I was in San Antonio on business. They appreciated me coming in and picking up a record from them. We mentioned I'll be back the next time I'm in San Antonio to check out their inventory and perhaps come away with some more music material. I definitely intend to make that happen soon!

A shoutout to Javier and his sister for not only making us feel welcomed but playing the best jams. Lots of varieties of cds, vinyls, cassette tapes from all genres. This place deserves all its flowers. Prices to the value of the vinyl I found were more than fair.

Likewise, Dreamonoid's HiFi shop cannot be characterized without those apt adjectives either. What existed once as a place for local youths and hipsters alike to revel in the dim glow of gaming nostalgia has re-emerged anew from the chrysalis of change as a shining beacon in the relatively petite but exacting world of the 21st Century High Fidelity audio market. Dreamonoid's demands the best of the equipment they sell. Resting not on the laurels of other HiFi stores who, in search of wider profit margins, succumbed to the turning tides of inferior Chinese-made products, this establishment prides itself on selling only the pinnacle of British-made equipment such as Rega, ATC, and Crimson for the equally selective buyer. As a listening environment, Dreamonoid's leaves nothing to chance. The shop hums with the details of its unique design. Painstakingly planned by professional audio personnel, the space exists to provide the listener with an experience unlike any other in Texas. Once your eyes close and the music fills your ears, your heart begins to beat in rhythmic progression and you find yourself entranced and immersed within the music. The staff remains one of the most driven and personable you will find anywhere. Passionate, knowledgeable, and wonderfully eccentric in a way that only the owners of a HiFi shop can be, Dr. Joey Lopez and Christian Rios, the store's two proprietors and resident audio experts, stand ready to welcome any visitors to their lair of listening lusciousness. If one finds himself within the throes of an audio affixation, I wholeheartedly recommend dropping by Dreamonoid's and immersing yourself in an experience quite unlike anything else in the luxury listening landscape.

I'm a big fan of Goodwill in general, but this particular location off Loop 410 is one of my favorites. They have a huge selection of gently used, reasonably priced merchandise, easily navigable aisles, and helpful, courteous staff. Whenever I visit a Goodwill, I make a beeline for the media section towards the back. Here you will find many goodies: beastly, bulky CRT TV's, woodgrained HiFi equipment from the 70's, tons of DVDs, and (if you're lucky) an occasional vintage video game console or computer from the late 70's/early 80's. This location features a huge selection of dirt-cheap VCR's, which I've used as passthrough devices to connect antique video game consoles to modern TV's. Shopping for clothes has never been my forte, but I've been impressed with their selection of menswear. If you're in the market for a $5 pair of gently worn Levi's, ties, or dress shirts, then swallow your pride and visit this location. You'll save a fortune and no one will know you purchased your ensemble from a thrift store. Before you leave, be sure to peruse the items housed in the display cases towards the front. On one occasion, I spotted two somewhat rare handheld video game systems for $10 each. Both the GameCom and the WonderSwan sell for considerably more online, so I made out like a bandit. The former is universally considered one of the worst systems of all time (hence its ironic popularity among retro gamers), and the latter was a Japanese product never released in North America. Unbeknownst to me, the WonderSwan came installed with a Japanese RPG game cartridge, which would have set me back at least $30 had I purchased it online. How Goodwill came in possession of either system is a mystery, but I dare not look a gift horse in the mouth. Regardless of your interests, you're bound to find at least something interesting every time you visit. When you're finished shopping, consider dropping by Leon Valley Cafe on Evers Road for a great home-cooked meal. See my review for more details.

The color of the day was yellow but I thought it was going to be pink. At check out, I went in my backpack to get the credit card and asked for a veterans discount on one item. Estela, the cashier accused me of stealing my own backpack. I got mad and said "I didn't steal blank" and this is my backpack. Can't you see I have my stuff in it?" She ignored me and she and the manager kept looking at me and my backpack so I demanded to know if there was a problem? Estela finally said "no" and I left the store.

Like most Goodwills I've visited, the merchandise is well organized, the bargains are plenty, and the staff is friendly and helpful. What's not to like? Well, I suppose the location is a bit "sketchy," but I frequent thrift stores and charity shops to find good deals, not to post commentary on the socioeconomic status of a particular neighborhood. Never once have I felt threatened walking in the parking lot. Whether you're shopping for gently worn clothes, appliances, toys, electronics, or media (CD, vinyl, cassette, DVD, VHS, games, etc.), you're likely to find at least one treasure per visit. I'm always on the lookout for video game paraphernalia and VCRs to hook up vintage RF consoles to modern TVs via composite. This location has come through for me on several occasions. On recent visits, I've picked up a fully functional VCR for $3.99, an RCA/S-video five-port switch box for $4.99, several Wii titles for $1.99 each, a Game Boy cartridge for 50 cents, and a set of "Donkey Konga" bongos for only $4.99. These are the types of bargains you will find only at garage sales, flea markets, and charity shops. Pro tip: Treat yourself to a soul-satisfying meal at the nearby Tip Top Cafe after shopping here. I emphasize "after," because the ensuing chicken fried steak food coma will dull your senses and cause you to overlook any hidden gems at the store.
