Or was it the friendly and welcoming proprietors Lou and Colleen? One thing I am sure of is that I would love to come again and again. There are two rental cabins that are attached (connected) perfect for large family gatherings as each cabin has a bunk bed and another separate room with bed. Shower and bathroom, full size fridge, and a stove. There is another log cabin available but I did not see that one. Also, there is a bar with a pool table that can be rented for family gatherings as well. There is a private ramp (boat launch) and multiple docks right outside the cabins that are only 30 to 40 feet from the water. This place is magical. Come here from the city to completely unplug and unwind in this wooden paradise. I can't say enough about this place or Lou snd Colleen!

They have a few options here in terms of size and price, but the main area is easily accessible from everywhere. Even though it's just a short distance from town, you feel like you're way out in the woods. Our cabin was clean and comfortable, with a couple different sleeping areas, a full kitchen, fridge, etc. I brought home a day's fishing catch and cooked it up right there. If you come with a larger group they have central fire pits and grilling areas and a couple big party shelters protected from the rain. They have WiFi throughout the property, which you'll probably need as I had no cell service up here. There was a baby deer on the property whose mother came by periodically to check. There's a sauna and a barn with bikes for everyone to use. Super peaceful and relaxing vacation.

And not only were the aesthetics amazing, but the cabin was immaculately clean and so comfortable! My bed was very comfortable and the furnishings in general allowed for real relaxation. We enjoy going out to eat and antiquing and other activities when visiting the North Woods, but both my daughter and I said it would not have been a tragedy if we would have had to spend more time indoors, due to weather. Brothers Joe and Peter, the new owners have been making a lot of improvements to the resort and it is very nice. There is a good sized bar that is open to the lake on three sides so there is not a bad seat in the house. The food ranges from snacks and appetizers to wraps, burgers and of course, a fish fry and all were delicious. The drinks are good and reasonably priced and the atmosphere can't be beat. I sat in that bar for a long time and between the locals and guests and people passing through, everyone was friendly and fun. Each night I sat at a different campfire with the other guests and we all had a great time. They have boat rentals, a launch for guests and plenty of slips. Plus, they have the only beach on Pickerel Lake. It is a great place to relax and unwind. I can't wait to go back in the fall.

We stayed for a few days, during which we enjoyed fishing, taking the pontoon boat out for a day of exploring the lakes, fires in the fireplace, cooking and eating breakfast together each morning, and especially sleeping out on the porch! I have not slept so well in many years, and enjoyed listening to the loons out on the lake.Our hosts were so warm and inviting. We found some delicious cookies waiting for us when we entered, along with the recipe (which I've made several times at home). Check in and out was easy. It's a simply lovely spot on a beautiful lake, and the sunsets are to die for from this exact spot on the lake. The cabin itself is cozy and homey - very relaxed. Beds are comfy and the cabins have everything you need, other than linens. Fishing and boating are wonderful on this lake, and my family loves to go tubing and waterski. There's a sand bar between two connected lakes that you can walk all the way across from shore to shore. I also love that the gas station, convenience store and restaurant are within a quarter mile of the place. Just no better place to stay for a fabulous vacation!
