Nothing says family tradition like a trip up north for Labor Day! Sad to say, this is known to be the last year Rassmusen Cottages will be open. It is indeed a sad tid-bit of news, but all the more reason to make this year a great one! Relaxation, natural beauty, tranquility are just a few words to describe ones experience at this resort. Picture walking up to a lake so calm that it brilliantly reflects the new color changes of the first fall leaves. Whether you are looking for beautiful hiking, great kayaking and boating, or just to do nothing, this is (and now sadly was) a premier destination! We were awakened two nights in a row by kids yelling in the halls, talking loudly, and upstairs stomping was ridiculous. The ceiling/second story floor was very creaky and noisy. I kept wondering when the ceiling was going to fall in. There was limited hotel staff and despite being on the ground floor, the front desk person seemed oblivious to rude behavior. I had made another reservation for August and once I find a different place to stay, I will definitely be canceling that reservation.

Notified desk. No alternative room offered. On two consecutive days, two different maintenance staff unable to repair; needed replacement, none available. Was working with a local realtor one morning at this unit's kitchen table when a person without knocking ENTERED ROOM, then, quickly left without a word. Numerous front desk visits and two phone calls by me after checkout over a two week period, found General Manager, Mr. B..., unavailable. On 9/4/2025, I received a return phone call from General Manager. Was told he and an Asst. Manager found lock on door of said unit operable and working. During my four night stay in the one bedroom unit nearing $400 per night for room and attached room fees with an inoperable interior security door lock, I was credited $25 per night ($100 total). I expressed compensation was inadequate. General Manager said he would look at interior lock again. If still inoperable, he would reconsider additional compensation. I requested a call back on his findings. Will add to this post at that time. (Note: This was my third stay at this resort over a fourteen month period.)

We booked the trip on Sunday and had to cancel on Tuesday. We were out the $90. It would've cost for the one night stay as their policy is no cancellation refunds. If they advertise this on their website, it is in the fine print however, it should be policy that if your trip is canceled due to circumstances beyond your control, you should be refunded. This is equivalent to stealing.

The voices echo in the lobby and we could hear them all the way down the hallway. A little thing, but we noticed it. We would definitely stay here again, it was delightful and a great find!!

The hotel is clean - main lobby, hallways, rooms, pool etc is all clean. It it close to anywhere you'd want to go in town and close to the highway if you wanted to go to Wausau or somewhere a bit further away. Definitely my hotel of choice if I am in the area.
