Not as convenient…read morefor fishing the Au Sable below the dam, which is my main draw here, but it served its purpose. Sites are very private, all surrounded by tall trees and very brushed in. Even at high noon I still had lots of shade. All looked more or less level, though the ground was a little hard and gravelly. Not many people there when I arrived on Thursday afternoon, but it was about half full by Saturday morning. Water from the pump was quite rusty (see photo) and I advise bringing drinking water. Highway M-33 isn't far away and there was a bit of noise from that for most of the day, as well as what sounded like a construction project underway in the neighborhood. But, you also hear loons calling on the pond at night, which is a compensation. There is a boat lauch to Mio Pond a short distance from the campsites. Wouldn't mind going back, just prefer being a little further out of town.

The view of Otsego Lake from each cabin is lovely, and we enjoyed reading on the dock and having a fire in the pit. I called at 930pm, with my fingers crossed, looking for same night reservations. The gentleman that answered was friendly and said someone had just canceled and we could have the last room available. We were 10 minutes away and turns out the owner met us in the parking lot and we were able to pay easily on line and get in our room within minutes. Room is squeaky clean and has so many thoughtful touches and everything you need. From coffee makings, to a mini fridge, place to put your luggage, great shower & bathroom amenities and most importantly, a comfortable bed. The room is private and easily accessible right from your car parked out front. There is an even a backyard area with fire pits, sauna & hot tub! Pickleball too! It is nestled in the woods and feels like modern decor & amenities meets rustic and cozy setting. It would be so fun to rent out all these rooms for a family reunion, or wedding, or just a fun weekend with friends. THIS is THE place to stay in Grayling. Don't bother with any of the other options.

I love nature but I don't like roughing it ;) I loved the chalet it was the perfect place to be at one with nature and have all the comforts of home!!! It's very secluded which I loved you feel like you are a million miles away from the crazy city but yet you are just a few minutes away from the grocery store and town for anything you might need. We also found an amazing place between Sara's house and the cottage where we got fresh brown eggs and homemade jelly yum we will definitely go back there next time. The chalet is overlooking a beautiful lake and is surrounded by the most majestic view. It also has a nice place for a camp fire and also a BBQ grill so you can cook there plus a fully stocked kitchen with stove, microwave, plates, glasses, utensils, etc. and a dishwasher so no washing stuff by hand. It was nice to be able to not have to go out to eat we had everything we could have needed and more!! My parents stopped by to visit and my mom fell in love with the beautiful decorations throughout the chalet it had that personal touch to everything. They could not believe how amazing it was there we all agreed it wasn't just a cabin it was a home and a beautiful one! We have tried a bunch of other places nearby but they were so dirty and musty and that's being polite!! You won't find that at the Detweiler Chalets it's more like staying at a friends house or cabin it's beyond words!!! My husband and I can't wait to go back we were so sad to leave it really is a piece of heaven! I'm kinda high maintenance as my hubby would say I'm a five star hotel and room service kind of girl but I was so relaxed and content that I didn't have a care in the world while we were there!! One more thing for those of you campers who still like to occasionally have there TV & Wifi like I do, you will be happy to know there is a huge flat screen Tv with dish network and wireless internet so if it's raining outside you can curl up inside and watch a movie by the fireplace ;)
