NO bedside manner. Did not listen or even care. What a waste!! Another Dr referred me to him. Ha! Very disappointed!!

Absolutely abysmal. TRUST THE OTHER REVIEWS WHO SAY SEEING RUMI & ALL OTHERS IS A WASTE OF TIME AND MONEY. I broke my arm on February 5 and was referred to Texas Orthopedics for a follow up. Spent a $50 copay on a 5 minute visit for him to ask me to make a few hand gestures and then send me on my way with an order for a CT scan and a follow up appointment a few weeks later. Got the feeling he wasn't interested since it wasn't a big (relative) $$$$ injury. Austin Radiology followed up with me for the CT scan, but Rumi & staff had ordered it for the wrong body part of my arm!!! Called Rumi's office to have them correct the order, but NEVER got a call back. Having felt like the whole thing with Rumi & Texas Ortho Associates was a sham, I got a referral from my primary care physician to another ortho (Jeffrey Knabe at Seton RR, also in network for my Aetna plan) and WHAT A WORLD OF DIFFERENCE. Went to see him instead and not only was Dr. Knabe WONDERFUL, PATIENT, and KIND, but in the next 48 hours, he and his staff had seen me, done w full examination, thoroughly walked me through my X-Rays, and scheduled surgery (mind you all of this happened before I even would have followed up with Rumi and Texas Ortho Associates). This doctor and clinic is clearly a joke and anyone who's SERIOUS about their injury should look elsewhere. read more

Dr Rumi has no "patient side manner" and does not like his recommendations questioned by insurance companies! Rather than fighting for the patient and helping them get the proper treatment, he allows months to pass before he decides he just doesn't care enough to appeal the decision with insurance companies. By far the WORST experience I have ever had with a DR, scheduling and an insurance department that isn't quite sure how to submit their paperwork properly and timely enough to avoid delays or submit required documents. read more

Dr. Rumi was very professional and easy to work with; I was referred to him by a friend who he operated on and who had really good surgery; I was nervous but his great bedside manner really helped and his staff were always responsive to my calls; My surgery day was also easy, the staff at the hospital he operates at were very good, in fact, I overheard one of the nurses telling a patient that she thought he was one of their best surgeons; Now I am pain free thats to him! read more

No doubt about it, Dr. Rumi is a rock star. I found Dr. Rumi to be an excellent listener and did a great job of explaining his strategy and plan of attack for my back issues. Had an outstanding experience, including the surgery that went great! I would definitely recommend him for anyone with back issues. We tried conservative approach with PT and steroid injections but eventually had to do surgery which ended up great. read more

Dr. Mustasim Rumi and everyone at Orthopaedic Associates in Round Rock was wonderful and caring. From the first time they answer the phone through the time you walk out the door, everyone is pleasant and professional. I even got the follow up phone call they said they would make to me. Not only did Dr. Rumi diagnose my problem correctly, he referred me to someone else who could better help me so I could avoid surgery. Can't say enough good things about this group!! read more

I visited Dr.Rumi for shoulder and back pain that I was suffering for more than 6 years, had consulted so many doctors but with no proper diagnosis or treatment. I had spent hours in google researching trying to find a better solution. All my doctor visits, time, money didn't give me hope that I would ever be back to normal. Dr.Rumi diagnosed from X-ray and MRI that it was only a muscular issue and physio theraphy would help. He educated me with details and recommended Brad Thorne, an excellent experienced physical therapist who diagnosed my issue properly and within 2 visits I am so much better. I feel like a freedom to be away from the pain. I highly recommend Dr. Rumi and Brad Thorne! read more

I went to this doctor with a lot of hope because I have had extreme back pain and limping occurring especially bad over the last year. I was losing time at work and it was impacting negatively every aspect of my life. At first he seemed interested in my outcome but over a couple of doctors visits he was argumentative, a poor listener, and extremely rushed. After weeks of physical therapy and painful injections that he ordered, he wanted to perform surgery but it appeared to be in the wrong area. An area where I had not received injections and wasn't consistent with the nerve pain I was experiencing. I politely asked to have another doctor's appointment prior to the surgery to address my concerns that the surgery could be on the wrong disc! As a RN myself, I knew that some of my symptoms where not consistent with surgical site that he was planning. He rudely dismissed me and would not meet with me. Instead sent me afloat to go get second opinions all over the place before surgery. He never called me or gave me an appointment to discuss my concerns. It was extremely frustrating and humiliating after months of doing everything that he asked me to do. He wanted to do surgery at L4 L5 even though I had originally herniated my desk at L5 S1 over 10 years ago with the degeneration that followed. His poor communication and narcissistic attitude could have cost me and unnecessary surgery that could have been injured me further. I instead went to the Laser Spine Institute in Cincinnati where they diagnosed me with nerve compression at L5 S1 and a bone spur with a tendon that had become very large from irritation. There was less than 1 millimeter of space between L5 and S1 and it should have been obvious that there was where the problem resided. I was given the proper surgery and now I no longer experience pain that I was in. They did not humiliate me but thoroughly investigated where my injury was and formulated a real plan for recovery. In all that I have went through I realize that it takes a lot longer to do things wrong then it does to treat patients with respect and genuinely care about their future. Laser Spine Institute didn't rush me. They cared about the future of my spine and how that would impact my family and would not jump to any conclusions without proper research. I am very grateful that I did not get the wrong surgery. That would have ruined my life for a long for a long of time. Needless to say I would not recommend Dr Rumi due to his poor communication and inability to listen. For all those who are needing spine surgery really investigate your doctors because sometimes you might only get one shot to make it right. I am glad that I had the courage to seek out the very best care that I could find. I thought my life would be changed forever when I had a herniated disc in the worst possible way. Going from completing a half marathon and different races, I could not walk from my living room to my kitchen without extreme pain. I was referred to Dr. Rumi after a couple of injections with Dr. Ostadian. It was clear the pain would not be going away. Dr. Rumi explained everything to me before surgery and the nurses were precise as well when I went in. I was so nervous going into surgery I was crying. I was afraid the pain would still be there when I woke up. I woke up and the first week I felt minor tingling and numbness- it was extremely hard for me to get in and out of bed- I had to use a walker for support. But after about a month, I tell you I was feeling 90 percent better and now 8 months post surgery I am fully recovered, also pregnant, and having literally no back pain in this pregnancy. I feel like a new person. I'm still able to do 8 miles on the elliptical each week in my 3rd trimester. I don't know what happened to the other reviewer A.R., but in my case, I am happily healed and would without any doubt refer Dr. Rumi. His bed side manner was very professional and his assistants were excellent as well. He is a very military type of style with routines, like washing his hands before and after meeting you, making sure you understand after he explains what he is saying, and is very honest. I think that is a good thing when you are depending on this person to do surgery on your back, next to your spine. He will tell you the success rate for you and if surgery should be considered or not. I don't know if mine was successful because it was caught in the first year and treated and the other reviewer A.R. said he/she had years of pain that it wasn't successful? I had a micro disectomy on my L4-L5 disc. Dr. Rumi also explained my chances of treating the surgery and if I waited longer than a year my changes of a successful surgery was only at 60 percent. I am guessing that Paula W. Either works for Dr. Rumi or she has never truly been to his office. Dr. Rumi did my spinal surgery two years ago. Since then- I have desperately tried to get another doctor to re-do the surgery. While I have 3 other doctors I have seen for 2nd opinions - and while they ALL agree that I do, in fact, need to have corrective surgery due to my prior surgery (compliments of Dr. Rumi) NONE of the 3 spinal surgeons will touch me. Why? Because they do not want to share in the "LIABILITY" of that which Dr. Rumi did not do correctly. Therefore, each of them have apologetically referred me back to him to have him correct the mistakes. I understand that we are each human and we make mistakes. The sad thing for surgeons is that when they make a mistake - well.....it is often times at the expense of a patients permanent well being and lively hood. I can accept and forgive Dr. Rumi makng a mistake and messing up. He never intended to cause me harm. However, his "mistake" has cost me much physical pain and suffering. I have not sued him and I will not bother with suing. I simply wish for my back to be fixed. I have an ugly mess and bundle of metal hardware in my back that is protruding outward and stretching the skin. It is horrifically painful. He simply refuses to see me. After the mess of my surgery- he saw me ONE TIME for follow up. One time!!! He did apologize but then offered no sympathy. He admitted to me that he needed to operate again to correct "a few things"... He told me to call him in about 6 months and at that time we would plan to rempve the hardware. I waited the agonizing 6 months. When I contacted his office again to schedule the corrective surgery- I was then informed by his office manager that Dr. Rumi no longer wished to treat me and that I would be receiving a letter of Doctor/Patient Termination in the mail shortly. What? I was devestated! Here I was willing to forgive and be tolerant as we all make mistakes. I was literally counting weeks during that 6 months - anxious and hopeful for the 6 months to roll around so that we could correct everything and so that I could hopefully resume a normal life and put an end to the excruciating pain I was suffering day in and day out with all this metal in my back! I waited 6 months as he asked me to do- only to then be told he did npt wish to be my doctor any longer?? And they offered no reason or explanation as to why he was discontinuing services... I then went on to see 3 other surgeons only to have EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THEM refer me back to Dr. Rumi. :( I am very disappointed and very sad. My quality of life has been significantly compromised ever since my surgery with Dr. Rumi. What is most sickening was and is Dr. Rumi's bedside manner and attitude this entire 2 years. He acted as though 'mistakes happen; not his problem; deal with it; move on; he is on to the next patient; go away; out of sight; out of mind.....' at least that is my perception of his attitude and how I was treated. I am trying to be hopeful- as I am now traveling out of network and I am headed all the way to Dallas, Tx to meet with a surgeon there next week. I am hoping and praying that this other surgeon will accept me as a patient and be willing to operate on me. Again- I have suffered a great deal. And i just want to warn any of you out there- while Dr. Rumi may very well do a fine job most of the time- I do not know bc that was not my experience....but I want warn others IF he were to make a mistake- rest assured that he will apologize. He will then schedule you out several months later for a corrective surgery (I wonder if this has to do with legalities- bc he could then say - "Well, if it was an issue why did you not pursue recourse back then?" I don't know- just guessing. Anyway, he will schedule a correction for his mistake many months after the fact- then when you call as instructed you will be dismissed. And this is unacceptable to me. His attitude is disgraceful! His bedside manner regarding this was harsh, narcissistic and devoid of any compassion whatsoever. He had the audacity to say to me, "I have other patients I need to attend to & I am no longer your doctor. If you call here again- I will have to report you for harrasment." This was after I had only called TWICE in a week after having been rudely told by his office manager that he would no longer see me. I called once on a Tuesday and a 2nd time on the followong Thursday because I wanted to beg him to fix what he messed up. Two phone calls is harrassment? At no time was I inappropriate. I never used a swear word. I never raised my voice. Rather, I was trying real hard not to cry the first call & the 2nd call I was monitone and numb. I thought I had back problems before he did my surgery. I thought the surgery would alleviate years of pain associated with herniated & bulging discs. Boy was I wrong! I now have a deformed back with bulging metal screws and lots of pain. read more
