Whether or not it is truly the largest automobile collection in the world, it is undoubtedly one of the most impressive collections of historic automobiles you'll ever see, particularly from the pre-1900 and early 20th-century eras. The exhibits begin with an extensive display of hood ornaments before leading visitors through the evolution of the automobile. Highlights include rare and beautifully preserved vehicles from manufacturers such as Bugatti, Mercedes-Benz, Maserati, Peugeot, Ferrari, Aston Martin, Alfa Romeo, Renault, and many others. From elegant touring cars and luxury sedans to racing machines and Formula One cars, there is something here for every automotive enthusiast. Plan to spend a half a day exploring the museum, as the collection is enormous and there is far more to see than most visitors expect. Bring a fully charged phone--you'll be taking plenty of photos. The museum is located in Mulhouse. You can take the train or drive as I did from Colmar which is only - 50 minutes drive. It's a great attraction of the Alsace region.

"Give me a museum and I'll fill it." -Pablo Picasso…read more It took a bit to find the galleries that I wanted but once there, wow. This is the art I love to see - impressionists galore! On a Tuesday morning, it was pretty quiet without schoolkids or large groups. There was nothing distracting me from enjoying the art. The exhibit of existentialist Bernard Buffet works was magnificent with a number of his pieces. Andy Warhol considered Buffet the "last great artist of Paris." Beyond that, Cy Twombly, Edgar Degas. Jean-Baptiste Camille Corot, Paul Cézanne, Vincent Van Gogh (I've never seen "Marguerite Gachet at the Piano" before and the "Self-Portrait with a Japanese Print" was amazing) , Claude Monet, Piet Mondrian, Marc Chagall, Paul Klee, Henri Matisse (paintings *and* sculpture!), Alexej Von Jawlensky's "Self-portrait") and more. What museum would be complete without works by Pablo Picasso and Alexander Calder and Salvador Dali? So much to see, so much to enjoy, so much to appreciate. It is one of the greatest art museums in Switzerland and I had a tremendous visit. Gift shop has lots to purchase but the prices for even the smallest prints are very high. I didn't even get a postcard today. [Review 21230 overall - 78 in Switzerland - 195 of 2024.]

The museum is amazing, really nice day activity. Would rate it 5/5 for the museum itself!…read more However the animals encountered were treated far from pleasant. I saw an adult cow tied up in a 2m by 2m cowshed with a 0,5m cable around their neck (see pictures). Beside was a young cow, not fully grown, staying in a separate 1 by 1m cage. Both the cows did not have access to food, socialising or water. The adult cow was not able to move freely, having difficulties getting rid of the flies swarming and laying down in their own urine and feces. Both cows were in clear distress. Further on I saw 3 goats, al in the same stable separated by a wall between each goat. The goats seemed to seek attention from the guests walking by, bleating and standing in their window. Their stable was dark and did not seem to provide basic necessities such as socialising and food/grass. They did not have a possibility to go outside. The chickens and geese did seem to have a nice yard including a pond. The turkeys and bigger birds did not have this, they had a closed sanctuary without access to grass. Also noticeable was that the pigs, who had access to both inside and outside facilities, did not have access to grass. Also the mud pool was incredibly small, not even the size of the pig itself. I also encountered 3 horses, staying in a dark stable. The floor was empty without any bedding. The horses, who are normally used to transport humans by carriage, did not seem to want any attention. Instead they faced a dark and cold wall. The donkeys did walk in a grass field. They did seek human interaction, staying by the gate most of the time. Also important to note that it's prohibited to touch or feed the animals. Overall the museum was nice and the time spent was well. Seeing the animals treated so badly did kind of ruin my experience. In my opinion it's unacceptable to tie up an adult cow to a cable 0,5m. By writing this review I hope the museum will take its responsibility in treating the animals better and respect them as living beings rather as part of the museum. Beside this I would recommend this museum as it is very entertaining and calm.

We stopped by unexpectedly after our hiking plans were rained out, and were very glad we did! We got discounted tickets with our Swiss travel pass and decided to check out the main museum. We spent most of our time in the energy, train, and car sections of the museum. For a weekday afternoon near closing time, it was not crowded at all so we were able to see everything we wanted. Some of the highlights are the various railroad cars - it was so interesting to see how the appearances differed across centuries! The huge model trainset would be a lot of fun for kids. We were also struck by the wide selection of cars across centuries, and the machinery that brings them up and down so you can see them more closely. The simulation experiences are really cool for all ages, we learned a lot about the different forces at play during the crash test. The museum of mirrors was also a hit - it was so much fun trying to figure out what is mirror and what is not. All in all a great experience, I only wish we could have spent longer there before it closed to check out more of the ships and aviation sections of the museum. It is a delight for all ages and very educational.
