Add to that, the pay is barely over minimum wage, the benefits are laughable, and because SA is considered a religious entity, if you're let go or there's another scam-demic, you won't get unemployment benefits. Yeah, staff/owner is harder to get ahold of but it's 24/7 access electronic key card, so I don't know why you would need to talk to someone anyway. There are lockers and bathrooms with showers. Overall great gym because the price is awesome, $200 annually. Only knocking a star off because I guess the communication aspect and equipment could be better. Love the gym though. Not switching anytime soon.

I opted for this location to be my "home" gym since it's the closest to me, but after visiting a couple others, I'm not sure if I'm going to frequent this one as often. Given it's location of being downtown, the only option is to pay for street (metered) parking or use their parking ramp. The idea of paying for a gym membership and then paying for parking each time is a huge deterrent for me! It would make me not want to go nearly as much, however, that is only one part of the gym-going experience! It was very easy to find, and at 7am, it isn't as busy as other times of the day. I like that the app shows you the "crowd meter" but I'm realizing I don't fully understand how they gauge it. It showed that it was low but there was quite a few people around! And when I went to a different location, it showed "more people" but looked like it was completely empty. There are a lot of machines and an upstairs for cardio (and downstairs too), so there is always something you can do if you're waiting for anything in the strength training space. I liked the layout and everyone there was really respectful. Very clean too!

I get a full body workout in 45 minutes in a group setting with the help of a trainer and tv monitors! It's clean, organized, judgement free and fun! So, I search Facebook events regularly for new *free* activities. One day, 2 summers ago, I came across an event for the F45 Grand Rapids grand opening. I'd never heard of this F45 thing before so I did some googling and found out that it's a workout concept originating from Australia and this would be the first franchise opening within a 3 hours' drive from us. My sisters and I decided to check it out and that Saturday morning, we got to the strip on 28th street where Michaels craft store used to be. The building was just being set up with mats, tv monitors and equipment - basic floor, walls and ceiling. We ran through several stations outdoors using free weights, ropes and yoga mats. Throughout the whole workout, trainers were encouraging us with, 'Nice work!', high fives and occasionally helping us modify lifts to target the correct muscle group. It was so much fun and by the end, I made up my mind to sign up for the 2 weeks of free, unlimited classes! Since that summer, I've been going to classes randomly with my friend Nicole who goes daily. They have a 20 class pass for $300. It's steep compared to gyms that offer memberships, but I have more of an incentive to actually attend these group workouts than I do if I were to hit the gym alone. Now that the place is established, they offer multiple classes from 530a-7p, 2 clean bathrooms, cubbies to stash your coats/keys, security cameras, and a welcoming environment. I've found that the Saturday morning classes fit my schedule the best and they offer 3 classes before 11am! It's such a great way to start my weekend and gives me time to recover before the work week begins again. I'm always sore after but it's a great feeling of accomplishment after I complete 2 rounds of 27 stations of heart pounding and sweat dripping workouts! I got to try a free class at YogaSix before their grand opening. They posted about it on their…read moresocial media at it was a 7 am class, so I figured they'd have space. Nate and I arrived just before 7 and were welcomed by Kate, one of the lead yoga instructors. The space is clean and new, and they have a fancy water bottle filler with purified, cold water. YogaSix at Knapp's Crossing is a franchise of the chain YogaSix, which is owned by Xponential Fitness. In my experience with these types of chain studios they definitely seem pretty sales-y and wanting you to sign up for their membership before they even open. I prefer to support smaller, local teachers and studios but wanted to check this spot out. I think one draw of this type of studio is that they can offer more variety in classes (they have 6 types) and more class times. I didn't realize that the slow flow class would be heated, which is not my preference. It was about 85 degrees, so not "hot" yoga, but still warmer than I'd prefer. I also really dislike yoga studios with huge mirrors, so I just placed my mat behind someone so I couldn't see the mirror. The class itself was what I would consider a classic vinyasa with some longer held postures, not really what I envision as a true "slow flow," but I enjoyed it. I felt good afterwards, and would be interested in checking out some of the other class types in the future.

For all of $5 for the child (and free for accompanying guardian), your little one can spend an entire hour walking on balance beams, jumping into foam pits, bouncing on trampolines, and doing all sorts of things to burn energy. This is particularly appreciated in the MI winter climate when going outdoors often isn't a reasonable option. They do also offer packets of discounted passes - I think it's only $15 for a pack of 5 passes, making it an incredibly reasonable $3 per session. The location can be bit difficult to find, particularly because the building has a parking lot both in front and back. Best to call for specific directions.
