Help it make sense. On a quiet Tuesday afternoon, we buy a round of ice cream for the family. As we are about to leave, I ask to PURCHASE 4oz of milk for my baby. They sell milkshakes and I saw the 4 litre jugs in the fridge. Perfect, I think! I just need half a bottle for the car ride. I am told no by the first employee, but the second employee calls the owner to ask. After a few minutes on the phone, he tells me I can buy an $8 milk shake and he is willing to give me the ice cream and milk separately. I would pay $4 or $5, but not $8. Your 4 litre jugs cost $6, guys. As my child cries for milk in the back seat, I have decided this is undoubtedly NOT my favourite ice cream shop. I was willing to overlook the mediocre ice cream, overall grimy broken down atmosphere, but not the lack of common sense. read more

We have been going to this ice cream parlour for the last 2 years and it's our preferred one in the neighbourhood. It's a small family business located in front of a lovely park and it has been here for more than 20 years. In summer, there's always a long line but the waiting time is not long. The staff is nice. Their menu offers traditional stuff like milkshakes, waffles cones, etc but they also have frozen cakes. The variety of ice cream flavours is extensive and prices are reasonable. Be aware of the scoop sizes. You could find yourself struggling to finish yours because they're quite big. read more

New owners. They have given this place a facelift. Tons of seating areas now, fresh paint, decor, and lots of new items on the menu. They offer lots of ice cream flavours, they also have ice cream cakes (kinda of pricy), candy, pop, and they have added a small lunch menu. Speaking of lunch items, we saw some sushi for sale in the cooler...Hmmm ice cream and sushi??? I'm not entirely sure about that. Great place for a date, for the kids, or just for a hang. My Favorite Ice Cream Shoppe is one of those places that takes you back to the nostalgic, good 'ol days. With 72 flavours of ice cream (not including gelato), there's something for everyone at this old school ice cream shoppe. Heck, they've been open since 1981 (that's almost 35 years!) and with another location, sounds like they're doing well for themselves. We came on a Saturday afternoon but it wasn't busy at all. Probably because it was lightly drizzling outside but ice cream/gelato on a rainy day is never a bad idea. Ever. Make sure to order at the counter first and then you can pick which flavour(s) you want. Definitely try a few samples before you finalize your selection because there are so many choices! Prices are pretty typical. $3.75 for a single, $4.75 for a split, $6.25 for a double and $7.75 for a triple if you're feeling craaaaaaay. $1.00 extra for a waffle cone but you gotta get that. Obviously. - Pistachio almond perfection ($3.75) - a nice healthy scoop of perfection. Haha, sorry that was lame. There was actual real bits of pistachio in it. Yummmmm. - Peach sorbet ($3.75) - my friend went with the peach sorbet. I had a taste and the sorbet was light and refreshing. She devoured it but that always happens whenever we go for ice cream. A good tradition. - Passion fruit sorbet ($3.75) - I had a quick taste and the passion fruit was subtle but maybe I just love passion fruit too much and wanted more. Cool little spot to grab an ice cream, yogurt, sherbet or sorbet. Definitely happy with my pick but will be back to try another of their 72 flavours! Perfect after lunch/dinner date. read more

We originally stopped by a Marble Slab to grab an ice cream, but for $6-7 for a cone we thought that was excessive. My Favourite Ice Cream Shoppe is only $4 a scoop and they are large. Plus you have at least 50 flavours to choose from. Then there is the added plus of supporting a local family owned business. It's a bit dark and old inside. But really you can sit outside and enjoy the weather or go for a walk in the park that is directly across the street. The ice cream was great. Soft and delicious. Four stars because you have 5 freezers full of ice cream. And if there's something I love more than cookies or chocolate, it's ice cream. On the exterior, My Favorite Ice Cream Shoppe could use some work. The well-weathered awnings could use a touch up, and a coat of paint on the benches and tables outside wouldn't hurt either. But it's still early in the season, maybe it's on the list. The interior is a lot more fun. I took a few minutes to explore the old school memorabilia on outer wall and wondered what a large statue of a cow was doing on the top of the piano? A sign in the front of the shop says there's music every Sunday evening from 7-10. As much fun as it was to have ice cream for lunch, the music with my cone sounds much more intriguing. The debit machine was out of order when I went. I'm glad they taped a big sign to the cash register so I could check my purse for change before ordering my chocolate brownie ice cream cone. Single scoops are $3.50, but it's a hearty scoop and on par with most ice cream shops. Tip: You'll need to pay before you order, but I advise deciding what flavour you want before you pay. And sometimes there's a dude playing the piano...every Sunday night I believe for a couple of hours? Their selection is awesome - they have some super delicious ice cream and there's always a big line (but don't be scared away...it moves fast). While the ice cream is standard, the prices are high and they gouge even more when paying with interac as they add on 0.12 cents and aren't part of any bank network which means your bank will charge you $1-1.50 for each transaction. Thats an expensive ice cream cone and you'd be better off going elsewhere. It's a racket that I won't support, so I walked out and won't return until the management puts in new POS system! Ice Cream is likely from Foothills Creamery, which you can get at most ice cream places. I deliberately held off on this review until this one... my 100th review (yay!) It's my favourite ice cream shop in Calgary, and It's name is aptly well earned. This shop definately puts any Baskin Robbins or Dairy Queen to shame with rows upon rows of virtually every conceivable flavour without going into the savory side of things (thank heavens... I really don't want to try say... turducken flavoured ice cream). Very much modeled in the inside to be just like an old fashioned ice cream shop, I keep finding myself utterly transfixed at the names and colours and potential tastes I have yet to embark. Just a word to the wise... bring CASH. Don't use your debit and they don't accept credit cards. Also, take the time to REALLY look through all the decor on the walls. I've been going to My Favourite Ice Cream Shoppe for well over 8 years and never once had a horrible outcome. Sure during the high seasons when the sun is blistering hot the place is a mad house. You'd expect to wait in a long line-up and survive loud, rowdy children and teenagers making out in front of you. But the wait is always worth it. I usually order a double scoop... that's equvialant to 4 scoops and a litre to take with me (to survive the summer heat and avoid coming back to long waits). The litre usually survives a week... I blame the Ice Cream for being addictive and delicious... curse you Mint Chocolate Chip. About the debit transaction, keep in mind this is a Mom & Pop's joint and thrives on seasonal success. Every time you make a debit transaction it cost the place alot of mullah. So to avoid the burden- grab cash instead. Simple as that! read more

Best hard ice cream parlour in the city hands down! The atmosphere and interior design is unique with a lot of character. I'm always tempted to play the piano or ride the horse haha. My ultimate favourite ice cream is the cheese cake in a cone! Yeah, it's winter but ice cream still taste awesome in the winter. OMG, I LOVE this place! Zillions of types of delicious ice cream, adorable retro interior (the exterior's retro but a a bit shabby), lots of space to sit and eat your ice cream, MASSIVE portions, and great staff. Not to mention, live blues music on Sunday apparently. Being a blues & lindy dancer, I immediately asked... and discovered they'd be ok with dancers attending when they have the band outside due to good weather. So, now I'm planning a trip back -with my dance buddies and my dance shoes. And if I really get to have ice cream AND dance... well, for me, that's just the equivalent of having my cake & eating it too - and this place will be going up to a 5 star rating ASAP!! An impressive ice cream selection in their line up. You start from one end of the ice cream display and by the time you get to the other end you'd have forgotten half of what you wanted. Price wise, it was a good deal: $11 for 3 people ordering a scoop each. I ordered the pistachio almond perfection and it was perfectly creamy. The decor was unique but not my thing. Two things marred what should have been a fun food break: 1) the service was grudging, grumpy and impatient all around 2) they handled the waffle cone with bare hands which is not very hygienic It was one of those rare hot days in Calgary and some shade over the outdoor benches would have been a nice touch. My Favorite Ice Cream Shoppe is aptly named. This is quite possibly my favourite ice cream shoppe in Calgary. First, the selection of flavours is astronomical. They have pretty much every flavour under the sun. Second, the quality of the ice cream is nothing to be sneezed at. It's creamy, sweet, and wonderfully delicious. Third, the waffle cones are a sweet surprise. The service at My Favorite Ice Cream shop is also something to be admired. The staff are courteous, efficient, and have the system down to a 't'. My only critique is in the exterior which could use a little livening up with a coat of paint or two. The interior though is a lot of fun and has a real sense of character. I think this place is a really nice place to go on a summer afternoon. I live pretty close to its really easy for me to grab some cash and walk over. The inside could use a few touch ups. It is kinda an older place. It has to arcade games and a huge selection of candy and ice cream! I think they could maybe fix the inside more but otherwise I think it's really a nice place. Went here for a treat for the hubs bday. It was good ice cream but they are very serious about their ice cream! Not super friendly, especially since it wasnt very busy at all. So So experience. Love the ice cream here but I won't be returning to this location again. They really need to put more emphasis on being sanitary and do a better job of training their staff. We ordered and paid and then went over to the ice cream section. The staff member that took our order and handled the money came over to do the scooping. We watched him proceed to wash his hands and all he did was simply rinse his hands for two seconds. These people are handling open food and they don't wash their hands thoroughly with soap after holding dirty money. This wasn't the first time I've witnessed this either, the last time I was in, I noticed an older gentlemen with glasses do the same thing. Tons and tons of flavour options here. As always, it took me a while to decide on what to choose, since i MUST read ever label. I went with the white mocha. I didn't taste much of the "mocha" in it, but it was creamy and delicious none the less. A great stop to make after a bike ride around the reservoir. After having meat sweats at Bolero, we decided to cool down with some ice cream from my favorite ice cream shoppe. Located in the Marda Loop area on the corner of 42 Ave SW, you can't miss this ice cream joint. It was a Saturday about 7PM when we arrived. There is tons of street parking as well as a large shared parking lot - you should be able to find a spot! Walking towards my 'favorite ice cream shop' I noticed that there are some benches you can sit on while you enjoy the sun and your cold treat. When I walked in, this place was B-U-M-P-I-N' and full of kids. There is a large candy display to the left but they seem to be running low when I was there, the large ice cream display to the right and a piano in the center of the joint. The one thing I enjoy about the large selection is that no matter how picky you are, there will be something for you. Ranging from fruity flavors, to plain jane chocolate, to the crazy wet paint, blast off flavors, you are bound to find one you enjoy! How it works, is that you have to pay first before you choose your flavors. You are able to sample as many as you'd like but it can get pretty clustered 'cause there are only a handful ice cream scoopers! I decided to get two scoops in a 'cup'. I paid, grabbed my receipt and went to the ice cream display. Like a kid in the candy shop (literally) I always get giddy. I was overwhelmed with the large selection but I was able to sample the ones I wanted. Wet paint, apple pie, red velvet, nanaimo bar were among the flavors I sampled. I felt bad 'cause I was taking forever to choose my two flavors, luckily the scoopers were quite patient! I decided to go with chocolate peanut butter and rolo (typical). They put the scoops in a little styrofoam container which was...different. We all ordered and went out onto a bench, licked and people watched. I really enjoyed the peanut butter chocolate as there were chunks of peanut butter mixed in and the rolo was divine. Smooth, creamy and caramelly, delicious! The nice thing about this location is that it's a short walking distance to the park across the street. This would be a perfect spot to bring your date... ice cream, park, swings...what more can you want? Talk about intimacy! ;) All in all, although the ice cream is not home churned, it is a great place to visit when you're feeling ice cream. Large selection of ice cream and candy and sometimes the store bought stuff is just what you need! I wouldn't say this is 'my' favorite ice cream shop but it could be yours!?? read more

The positives are the huge selection and prices are reasonable however the place is so filthy dirty I had to stop looking around.
