I never thought I was a zoo person, but this completely changed my mind…read more I visited during the zoo's extended summer hours (Fridays and Saturdays until 9 p.m.--despite what Google Maps says!), and it was one of the best decisions I could have made. We practically had the zoo to ourselves! Google still lists the zoo as closing at 4 p.m. every day, and I don't think the zoo advertises these evening hours nearly enough. Going later in the day made the experience so much better. First, it was much cooler and more comfortable. Second, the animals were incredibly active because the heat had died down. And third, many of them were being fed their dinner near the viewing areas, so we got to watch them up close in a way you normally wouldn't. The staff and volunteers were another highlight. Everyone we talked to was friendly, enthusiastic, and genuinely excited to answer questions and share stories about the animals. You can tell they're passionate about both the animals and the zoo's conservation efforts. I also learned how important it is to support AZA (Association of Zoos and Aquariums) accredited zoos. I came away really impressed by everything the Denver Zoo does for conservation, research, and animal care. If anything, I think they should do a better job of bragging about all the incredible work they're doing--it deserves more attention! One of my favorite moments was watching the tiger stroll across the overhead bridge directly above us. The elephants have a similar crossing, although they weren't using it while we were there. The habitats throughout the zoo were beautifully designed and created such an immersive, interactive experience. I can't recommend visiting during the extended summer hours enough. It felt like having a private zoo experience, and I'll absolutely be back!

They were having trouble with their check in system, so we were allowed to cut in line and check in! An overall straight path through the aquarium. Lots of exhibits. The tunnel felt very safe. The Smooth Alpaca Experience was a fun hour with the family. They have alpacas and goats which are…read morevery gentle while they eat small bunches of hay and pellets out your hands. The proprietor was quite nice and provided some very interesting facts and stories about the animals. Our son is almost two years old and was a bit hesitant at first but by the end was walking up to the animals and feeding them by himself. The animals all have movie star and celebrity names - very cute, and are all different colors. It was a bit hard to find and Google Maps first took us to the upper parking lot of the Red Rocks complex. But I was able to call and they provided us an address by text - the small farm is up a dirt road off the main road to RR. The whole experience was about one hour. Be prepared to get some hay on you! I recommend the experience and it is quite unique.

Joe was wonderful -- fun, informative, kind, humorous, and incredibly knowledgeable. He made the entire experience engaging for both kids and adults alike. We especially enjoyed getting to know all of the alpacas, along with the hilarious three brother goats who definitely put on a performance for us! We learned so much about alpaca behavior, personalities, eating habits, the shearing process, and the care involved in raising them. It was also fascinating to see the finished alpaca products, including socks, hats, gloves, sweaters, and blankets, and to better understand the process from animal to finished product. Overall, this was a unique, educational, and genuinely enjoyable experience that we would highly recommend. Joe made the day extra special!

It was so relaxing just to walk in and see all of them flying around. I also love that you can input data for the butterflies with stickers to help track them. My only suggestion would be to have more people walking around to monitor since I saw a few little kids try and hurt the butterflies, simply due to the kids being so young and not understanding how to be careful. Then we make our way to the tropical butterfly room. Where we spend 10 minutes at most because when we get there. He wants a snack but I know he knows the play area is next. It keeps my toddler busy for hours. And he leaves happy. Surprisingly a fun place for a toddler. I never knew he would be so interested in the bugs but he loves it. And asks to go back fairly often. I recommend it for sure. Especially for young children. You can end your time in the play area. They do close for about 15 minutes each day for a deep clean. I forget the time. The price is not terrible but in Tuesday or Wednesday it's free and then they charge for pumpkins. The employees we say were help but they're weren't too many. The proximity to Broomfield makes this place a good choice.
