Superdrug is like Boots' insolvent cousin. Oh come on, it is! Ok, ok, so there are some relatively…read moredecent deals such as the '3 for 2 Mix and Match' on Body and Bath Gifts, Men's Gifts, all John Frieda hair products (which would appear more credible if Superdrug hadn't increased the price of the individual bottles before this deal came into existence) as well as 'selective' (which translates as 'cheap in the first place' so that they don't lose much revenue when they are bought as part of this deal) make-up gifts. Aside from these barely-worthy-of-note deals the whole feel of the place is excruciatingly dated - even the logo looks behind the times. The beauty electrical goods on offer are not state of the art by any means - instead of offering the customer the likes of revolutionary GHD straighteners with universal voltage and advanced ceramic heaters we are met with passé Remington curling tongs and Babyliss 'turbo' (laughable how they try and amplify the quality of something that is essentially junk with this type of heightened terminology) hair dryer - the likes of which I was buying when I was a naïve, meager 15 year old. The place is overflowing with the lackluster brands such as Herbal Essence and Dove and thus massively deficient in anything revolutionary, fashionable or indeed sexy. Give it a miss and head to Boots for something significantly more tasteful on all parts.

However, Superdrug is a lot more than just a purveyor of little and large sweets. It's a bit like a Boots, with a dollop of Claire's Accessories thrown in to the mix - think perfumes from your youth like So? alongside toiletries that smell like various fruits.

Let me first start by saying that I have been a faithful MAC user for almost 30 years. I was in…read moreIreland on vacation and needed to replenish my stock. NICOLA is the one that was at the front desk. I waited for almost 10 minutes without being greeted. She told me they were short staffed and asked if I wouldn't mind "calling back." (Coming back later.) I told her I was on vacation and on a tight schedule and I needed to just grab a couple things and she turned around and just left. After ANOTHER 10 minutes, she returned and asked what I needed. I needed a purple eyeliner and she pulls one out and after I said, "that is gorgeous, I will take it!" She replies, "oh, we are all out of this." Confused, and wondering why she would show it to me in the first place if it wasn't for sale, I said, "Ok, I will buy the sample off of you." She replied she wasn't allowed to sell the sample, because it wasn't counted in as inventory. I went for another product, also of which they were out of. She was so terrible and tried to rush me out of there so quickly, I literally left in tears. If you are looking for a place to get pampered or simply replenish your stock, this is not it. I would highly suggest going to Dior in the same mall (Brown Thomas,) or ANY other makeup counter. Anything would have been more accommodating than this. If I ever return to Dublin, I will NEVER return to this MAC store. Nicola was just awful.

I also like the MAC lipsticks, not as much as the Bobbie Brown ones but they I find that they have a better selection of colours and more youthful shades. I've tried the blushes and eye shadows before but didn't find much difference between them and the cheaper drug store brands. I've also used the Studio Select foundation which was pretty good but a bit too heavy. Overall though, the only thing I buy from MAC is the concealer and lipsticks. With regards to this branch, it's always so packed and it always takes ages to get someone to help you. I didn't find the staff very helpful anyway, so I usually just choose things on my own without asking. There is just so many types of foundations and concealers that sometimes it can be so confusing, so it would be great if the staff were a little bit more helpful. However, there has been numerous times where my shade or the colour I wanted was sold out. I'd say it's best to avoid the busy weekends, especially Saturday afternoons where it's jam packed! But this is probably the only counter where it's safe to browse without being attacked my sales assistants! My two star reduction is for 1. Staff not very helpful and kind of slow, 2. Out of stock too often.

Don't they understand that we know it's fake? And that it looks weird? Whatever, I cannot judge people based on that, it's their right to look ridiculous. Anyway, if you're the kind of girl who wakes up in the morning and feels like it'd be a good idea to clip on your ponytail, put on a mask of make up, wriggle into a skin-tight dress, strap on some hooker shoes and grab your faux-croc purse, this is the place for you. They have wigs in a variety of colors; one is guaranteed to be just a leeeetle bit different than your own natural hair color, so that everyone can see that it is indeed, extremely fake. Yay! You can also buy really obvious fake nails, obvious fake eyelashes and fake "wedding buns" though my advice is to NOT WEAR FAKE HAIR ON YOUR WEDDING DAY. This place is just so trashy and weird. But now that I think about it, it would be an awesome place to go for Halloween stuff.
