First time coming here, me and my wife were looking for children's toys and stuffed animals to prepare ourselves for Christmas. Parking can be a bit of a Hassle if you come to the downtown during their busy season at random parts of the day. We found a few things that we liked here. Staff here was friendly and knowledgeable. Plenty of families were in the store too. Featured a plethora of kids games, family games, hobby games, plush animals and unique toys and gifts I've never seen at a store before. Another Downers business that has changed its name since I was last in. it used to be called My Favorite Toy Store. Now, some of us might hate to admit it, but there is a little of Peter Pan in all of us. Don't be embarrassed, you will feel right at home in this store. There is a great selection of toys for all ages, actually for the ageless. Why didn't they have toys like this when I was that age? They have things to shake, ride, chew, watch, read, grow, manipulate, make, and wish you had thought of so you could be sunning on some beach somewhere instead of living the everyday grind. Living a very busy life, I don't normally take time for reviews; however, I felt I needed to with my experience at this toy store. I was in search of ideas for giftgiving for a young child, having a "choo choo train"-based birthday party. A young lady, who I later found out was a manager, Bridget, was absolutely amazing. She had endless ideas that were so cool and really fun. I wished I had an endless budget so I could capitalize on all her awesome suggestions! Can't wait to see the little boy's big smiles when he gets his choo choo train gifts. AND....courtesy gift wrapping included!! I love this store. When giving gifts it is my go to store. The staff are knowledgeable and helpful. Gift wrapping included. I can get all of my holiday shopping done with the diverse selection. Have been here many times, It is a great place to pick up that last minute birthday gift for some lucky child. You can have them wrapped and ready for delivery to the party. Unfortunately, the following experience has happened before but this time I called them on it. Recently I purchased $50+ for 4 birthday gifts for a 7 year old. When I got home I opened the bag and found only 3 wrapped presents with one that looked like a child wrapped it. I went back to the store and was told they wrapped two of the presents in one. No one asked me if that was ok. No one told me they did that. I suggested that asking if this was ok would have saved me the time and effort of driving all the way back to the store. I pointed out the shabby wrapping on the one package that happened to be the one that had two gifts in it. Further I explained how every 7 year old loves to open gifts and wrapping gifts together deflates some of the pleasure they get. The attendant just looked at me saying nothing. After a minute stare down, she asked what I wanted her to do! No apology, no sorry you had drive drive all the way back. No "yes, that's a good idea", no "I'll talk to the manager about it so it doesn't happen again", no offer of compensation for the problem they caused. She just rewrapped the two gifts and handed them back to me. read more

My new favorite kid toy store! This is such a fun store with many puzzles, stuffed animals, gender neutral toys, books and more. Most of the toys are educational and developmental which is awesome! I came in here not really knowing what to expect and I could've bought the whole store. Thankfully, I was able to restrain myself. There were two younger women working the store when I walked in. One of them greeted me and asked if I was looking for anything in particular. I said no, I was just browsing. She let me wander the store myself and wasn't pushy or anything, just pleasant and helpful. I saw some workbook/home school type books which I will remember for when my little one may need them. There were puzzles for all age groups. As a matter of fact, the store had toys for every age group starting from infant all the way to teenagers. They also had a nice section of musical instrument toys for toddlers like drums, shakers, and xylophones. The one thing that was hard was the fact that I had a full size stroller in tow and it was hard to maneuver around inside. If it were busy I wouldn't have been able to get around inside at all. I left with a few items and my little one was chewing away on one of the toys before I had even paid for it. Seemed to be fairly priced. I expected the price tags to be sky high since every other boutique DT Downers Grove is like that. But I was pleasantly surprised. I took a gander at Amazon and the prices in store were either the same as Amazon or a few dollars higher. I will be back and I will send other parents here as well! read more

When I was a kid going to Bargain Town (later became Toys R Us) with my aunt was always a cool memory. When toy stores got huge, it was almost overwhelming and things were just strewn about from lazy shoppers not putting stuff back after looking at them. Now the big box stores are a vanishing breed. That's why I appreciate this local store right in the heart of Downtown Downers Grove. It's neat, it's fun and you can get the help you need to pick out that perfect toy for a deserving kid! read more

I come here all the time and the staff is always really and willing to help me find that perfect toy for whatever age I am looking for and if they don't have what I need they are happy to tell me the next place that might have it. This store offers so many different toys and educational items for all ages. The also gift wrap FOR FREE!!! The wrapping is such a great thing service that saves me time and money especially for Christmas. Another great thing that offer the FREE awards program once you spend $100(no matter how long it takes you too) the store sends you a bright colored paper that gives you $10 off a $25 dollar purchase and another great thing about is you can use one award for every $25 you have in one sale. You can tell as soon as you walk into this amazing PET FRIENDLY store that the staff are just like any other family and do their best to make you feel like you are apart of it too. read more

Wonderful local toy store right in downtown DG. I honestly almost exclusively shop here for bday gifts for the simple fact that they gift wrap at no extra charge. How do you beat that when you're on-the-go?! I do wish they'd expand their toy selection for kids above age 7 b/c that's pretty limited. i.e. RC helicopters and drones, sports gear, Rainbow loom, crafts for 7 and up etc. read more

Had an issue with a Calico Critters set purchased in Dec where there were missing/damaged pieces in the box. I was not looking for a refund, but simply an exchange of the merchandise -- not an unreasonable request considering the set was nearly $80. After a conversation with the owner over the phone (we live out of town), she reluctantly said she'd 'try' to reach out to the manufacturer after I sent an email with some pictures of the set. I promptly sent the email...no response. I then called back and left messages for her on two separate occasions over the following weeks and never heard back. I have never seen such poor customer service in my life. I love the idea of supporting small businesses, but not when they treat you like this. Taking my business elsewhere and instructing anyone who lives in the area (including numerous family and friends to do the same!!). BEWARE of this owner-- her bottom line is clearly what is most important to her!!! read more

Originally impressed until I had to make a return! I bought several gifts for my nieces and had to return one because it was too complicated for their ages as well as a poorly designed game! They refused to take it back because the shrink wrap had been removed. Apparently removed shrink wrap constitutes "damaged packaging". Bottom line, we will not shop there again and we will spread the word to 10 people that it is not a good place to shop. The game I wanted to return was called "Night Sky Projection Kit." It is supposed to be a starry night projector. The only problem is you have to poke all of the holes in the cardboard sheets with "a pencil or a nail." When I attempted the return that was the reason cited. I asked the lady if she knew that was how the toy worked and she said yes. That is the expertise I would have thought I would have gotten when I purchased this game, but no, that only surfaces when you try to return it. Bottom line - this store does nothing to establish excellence! Higher prices, no advice, and a poor return policy mean a strong warning not to shop here! read more
