The restaurant has the best breakfast in the area, and George the morning waiter cheers you up every morning. Highly recommend this place.

I was about a block and a half from the beatiful Ponte Luis I bridge which goes across to Nova De Gaia region. What is so special about this bridge and where it takes you? Well the area across the river contains the storage houses for many of the port wine producers down the river in the Douro Valley. In other words, you can visit most of these storage house and they will teach you about the port wine making process and also taste the final products! Back to the the Porto River apartments, the building is located in the hottest area of Porto. The neighborhood is filled with lots of great history and many, many great restaurants. Not enough restaurant choices for you? Well, then head uphill toward the many pedestrian friendly streets that are also filled with great restaurants and shops. The apartment was very clean and had a kitchen which is also a plus if you want to save money on some of your meals. My booking included free breakfast which was excellently prepared by the nice women in the restaurant kitchen. The restaurant seating area is above the river and has great views. The staff is very friendly and helpful. Would I return to this same location in the future? Without a doubt!

The location is ideal even though it is in Gaia - across from Porto proper. We couldn't stop raving about this place to our friends! All charm - this hotel is also relatively quiet (compared to staying in the nearby Ribiera area), save a few moments when the train goes by during waking hours, and felt very safe and secure!

The hotel is within easy walking distance of both local restaurants, and an easy downhill stroll to all the things you come to Porto to see. The subway gets you back to the nearby Marques metro station when you've had enough walking. The hotel itself is delightfully quirky - the 'castle' is wonderfully decorated, as are the grounds and gardens. Most guest rooms are scattered around the property. We had a spacious, comfortable, modern room in a 2 story motel-like addition at the back of the property. In addition to the beautiful gardens that you pass through to get anywhere, be sure to seek out the lawn and stairway to a patio full of trees at the southwestern corner of the grounds - the views of the city from there are wonderful. The staff here was terrific - taking their time to instruct guests on what should be seen in the city. A fantastic touch was, when it rained overnight, they left golf umbrellas outside every room, in case they were needed to get to breakfast. A variety of tilework puts the perfect finishing touch on this lovely place to stay.
