This place is so nice I just happened upon it because I was getting a sandwich next door. The owner greeted me and gave me the layout and was very attentive but didn't hover. Their biggest selection was obviously mystery books but they had some fiction, cookbooks and children's books as well I appreciate the diversity and inclusion in the children's section. I'm not a mom but I really liked that. I ended up just getting a birthday card for my friend as I have too many books and not enough space but I'd go back for gifts, stickers, candles or the vibe itself read more

What a cute bookstore! Upon entering, I was able to look around for a little bit and was greeted by a pleasant employee. They helped me order a book when we could not find it in the store. I finally made it to the storefront after buying books from Mystery Lovers Bookshop at the Pittsburgh Book Fest! And what a lovely storefront it is! Street parking is close and easy. The staff person was very friendly and helpful (no surprise here). And I got three books (one children's book) for under $50. I'm looking forward to perusing more books. Their focus is mystery but you can find some other genres as well. read more

Cute little bookstore in Oakmont! They have a great children's selection with classics and not-so-classic books. I'm not much of a reader but it seemed like they have a large variety of authors. The woman working was very friendly! They offer free shipping to the store if there's a book you want that they don't have in store. read more

This was my first time in this independent bookstore in Oakmont. The surrounding area is fantastic as there are lots of shops and eateries within walking distance. The shop wasn't exactly as I had expected. While it was very nice and the selections were organized and easy to find, the books are all pretty much current releases. They also sell bookish items such as bookmarks, t-shirts, took bags, puzzles and more. I definitely encourage people to check out their website as you can order books and have a much better selection. read more

This was my first time here and oh my goodness, this might be my new favorite bookshop!!! It's a same family owned business and the lady who was working there definitely knew her stuff!! She was so knowledgeable about the authors and their histories. There was a section of used books that were being sold for $2 and she was able to recommend a few to us! I liked this store because they had so many different mystery books to choose from. I am looking forward to getting started with the books I purchased. Nice part about this shop was that there was a small little section of children books as well! Definitely recommend you stopping by if you are I the area! read more

I absolutely love this cute little shop. The ladies who work there are so helpful. I love that they are open every day of the week. If you are a mystery junkie, you have to come here. Hundreds of mystery books for all ages! At first it might seem a little overwhelming because there are SO many books but if you need any type of recommendation, the ladies can help you out. I'll tell you, I avoided "Black Friday" like the plague! Who wants to line up outside Best Buy in the middle of the night just to get a deal on a TV? Who wants to get pepper sprayed outside a Walmart by some whacko? Not me! I came here instead on "Small Business Saturday" or whatever it was called. I'm all about local businesses and supporting fair trade (not "free" trade, which isn't free). Besides, I believe you can find really unique gifts at places like this that your loved ones will really enjoy. Mystery Lovers is run by people who really know and love their books. If you can't find a certain book you're looking ofr, they'll help you find one. If you want to get that mystery lover in your life a book but you don't know what to get, they'll point you in the right direction. I've been going to Mystery Lovers for over 15 years. No matter where I've moved to around the area, it is still my go-to place. Mary Alice, Richard, and their staff know their books. You can go in with just a character's name, or a basic plot, or want a story that takes place in a certain country, and they can tell you which book you're looking for. Also, every May (very beginning) they host a Mystery Festival with ~ 40-50 popular authors. It's a great opportunity to meet and talk with a favorite, or meet someone you've never read before. Check out their web site at: www.mysterylovers.com. Go in and join one of their book clubs - you'll read books you'd probably never have picked up otherwise and perhaps find a new favorite author. We are the Western Pennsylvania center for crime and mystery featuring thousands of titles in every genre of mystery fiction. We also sponsor 7 book clubs who meet in our store every month along with numerous author events, especially our annual Festival of Mystery in early May which features up to 50 authors who spend an evening meeting and chatting with fans.

Established in 1990.

The Mystery Lovers Bookshop was founded by Mary Alice Gorman and Richard Goldman. We opened on Halloween of 1990 and we've celebrated our birthday on that day each year since.

Nearby were a few games and jigsaw puzzles. They also offer tutoring -- an appropriate added service, it seems. I absolutely adore gorgeous glassware and had this on my list to stop in, and Christmas Eve, when I was picking up an order at Oakmont Bakery, literally a block away, presented the perfect opportunity. I go to Oakmont every so often and wondered how I'd never seen the shop; it's tucked away off of a side street that you might not happen upon unless you knew to look for it. Once you find it, though, it's absolutely enormous inside, with tons of glassware on display and a studio. And people definitely know about it, because there were plenty of them there shopping on Christmas Eve. Amanda herself was on hand, offering to answer questions or serve a glass of wine. She's so talented! The glassware is absolutely stunning. So many colors and themes. I bought two large wine glasses, one with a Grinch theme that I plan to gift and one in a Christmas red and green swirl theme, and two stemless in the fun Steel City theme with an abstract Pittsburgh skyline. When you take your purchases to the register, they ask you how you are planning to gift them so they know how to package them together, and have paint splattered bags and appropriately matching tissue paper to package them in, complementing the glasses themselves. So fun and instantly ready to gift. The glasses were about $19 each which is so reasonable. You can also order online. I can absolutely picture myself not only stopping in here occasionally in the future, but sending gifts to out-of-town folks. Just loved it!!
