We did the salt cave which is 45 minutes of meditation as you relax and smell the salts and take in the good vibes. And we did the hand and foot salts where you place your hand and feet on salt blocks and let the heat and salts absorb into your skin. As we waited there was a store with a ton of minerals, CBD, drinks, towels, gifts etc for you to buy. Parking is plentiful. We came on a Sunday morning at 11am and we did a walk in. They were receptive and attentive to my requests. I booked a 60 minute private sound healing session, followed by 90 minutes of reiki. Upon entering the building, I was greeted by very kind staff members. I filled out a small amount of paperwork. I then went back with Lynn for my sound healing. Lynn was a very very nice person and I look forward to doing sound healing with her again in the future. The room was nice and peaceful and relaxing. The bed warms up if you like. She has 3 different size knee support pillows for your comfort. She has eye masks to wear. She was blankets, including weighted ones. She asks permission to do things that require touch. It's up to you. After you're done, she will tell you her findings (such as what chakra is blocked). She then led me to a tea station to have some water or tea if I like while I waited for reiki. You can have one bag of tea and they had quite an assortment and lists if they're caffeine free or how much caffeine it contains. Denise then came to grab me for my reiki session. She is a reiki master. She was also very kind. We talked a bit before getting started about me and about what she does. My session was incredible. I felt a bit emotional during the sound bath but I felt it very strongly here. I wasn't expecting it but it was good for me and a safe space to experience that. I was also drifting into sleep and not having a loud mind which is not usual for me. It was amazing. In the beginning and end she goes over what chakras are blocked and/or open. She will tell you what she saw or felt during it. And she will let you do an oracle pull. Denise also helped me with some questions I had in the gift shop. Oh. And someone else in the gift shop was super friendly too ... just didn't know their name or I can't recall it. And the gift shop itself is great. Tons of crystals, some jewelry, gummies, oils, skin care, tea, buffalo bills themed stuff, etc. I would go here weekly if I could but my budget will not allow it; I plan to go as much as I can though as it really helped me and was such a safe and welcoming space! I was given classes at ArtYard as a gift several times, and each time by the end of the session, I vowed not to return. Have you ever experienced waiting in line somewhere while the associate chit chats with others, like you're not even there? You might have a question, but you're stuck, waiting, until they're good and ready to address you? And your inquiry is even brief, but you must wait? This is what it feels like taking a "class" at ArtYard - it's really more like you're renting the studio space for six weeks, which if you had acquired the necessary skills would be fine. I expected an attentive teacher walking around offering encouragement, tips and advice to students, and rooting them on, like the substitute that was there once, he was amazing! However, you must simply wait for a break in the conversation, say please, and not chew gum in class if you'd like help. Or to keep from idling, ask another student for help. One can be talented at what they do, but not have the heart of a teacher. (And yes, I understand that there is a certain amount of trial and error to creating art such as pottery: figuring things out, making your own mistakes, trying, trying again. I get that. I am a designer for a living.) Contacting the instructor - via phone, email or text - was unpredictable, you may or may not get a response. Sadly, I got to the point where I could take "the attitude" no longer: frustrated, upset, and humiliated, I walked out of the second class, and didn't return. And no one with the heart of a teacher would allow that to go unnoticed. But they did.

I was genuinely excited when I saw the announcement on Facebook. Knowing it's owned by the same folks behind Alden's coffee shop (which truly impressed me), my expectations were high in the best possible way. Is this the bookstore I would open if I had unlimited time, money, and ambition? Probably not--but that's actually the beauty of bookstores. We all imagine our "perfect" version a little differently, and variety is what makes book culture interesting. The shop itself is absolutely charming. It leans heavily into a gift-shop feel, with a strong emphasis on local makers and healthier, thoughtfully sourced items--two things I truly love and fully support. The people working there are warm, welcoming, and genuinely delightful; the kind of folks you'd happily chat with all afternoon. As a lifelong book lover, I'll admit I went in hoping for a bit more of that wander-the-aisles-and-get-lost feeling. But this shop has only just opened--right in time for the holidays--and it already feels like a space with potential to grow into itself. Sometimes the best places take a little time to find their rhythm. I'm rooting hard for As the Crows Fly and hope Alden (and surrounding towns) show it plenty of love so it can continue to evolve. And who knows--if they ever put up a Help Wanted sign because the book section has outgrown the space... I may just be first in line to apply.

Polly, the IBCLC and shop owner made sure we knew what to do and also knew when/how to get in touch and get help if we needed it once our babies arrived. My baby arrived and I in fact did need help from someone experienced!! We got there and our baby had made a big mess of herself on the car ride over. Polly had a changing table set up for us to use and I was able to weigh my baby before and after she ate to determine how much milk she was actually "transferring." Polly helped us determine what could be making breastfeeding difficult and worked with us to make sure it would work! We walked away with a care plan and I felt empowered. I still have 3 more follow up visits that were also included in the first consultation. It was a great resource AND IT WAS COVERED BY MY HEALTH INSURANCE! I didn't have to try and figure anything out, I just brought my health insurance card with me and Polly and Mary Jo took care of everything. I can't recommend Baby's Sweet Beginnings enough.
