Well, after 29 years with the original roof, it was bound to happen. After heavy rain, I looked up and saw the infamous stain on my drywall ceiling. Yup, leak.I'm a meticulous guy when it comes to a big job like this started calling companies. I kept a notepad and started calling. After 5 different companies coming out and telling me since I owned solar, they would have to sub-contract my job out to a solar specialist they work with. For the total job, I was getting quotes from $26k to $34k. Pretty ridiculous. I realized I was going about this the wrong way. I contacted a solar company I trusted (HPM Solar) and since I own the panels outright, I asked them for a roofing company they would recommend and work well together. They told me "MZ Roofing." A family owned, certified, licensed company. They came out and gave me a quote of $14,600 for a "Lift and lay." I asked whatbthey recommended, 30lb paper vs synthetic. They said it was up to me since the price was the same. Other companies were trying to upsell me and talking like a used car salesman. What I really appreciated was they had a clause in the contract that afforded a certain amount of leniency for damaged tiles and wood that needed to be repaired. All the other companies had an entire menu of uncharges they would force me to pay for. From $20 per tile they cracked to $100 per sheet of wood, to everything else. Those type of companies start at one price and end at another. Not MZ, they were straight forward, easy to communicate with. The workers were friendly and the company even brings a "port-a-potty" to stay at the job site. I cannot say enough good things about MZ. Not a single issue. MZ came out and gave me a fair quote to repair my roof leak. My house was built in the early 90's, so the roof tiles are hard to find and they were able to find some that match really well. They came out with-in a week of the quote for the repair. On the day of the repair they showed up on time and did a professional job on the repair. They're quick to answer the phone that's the only positive thing I can say. I had someone come look at my roof to give me a quote, they took no more than 10 minutes to look at the entire roof. What I expected for just a couple tiles. Once they finished the roofer told me it would be 3 days for me to receive an email with a quote. 3 day turned into a week still no response. I called the lady made it seem as she was still waiting on her boss to give her a quote one week turned into another week I called them again and the lady gave me the same excuse. Our 60'x13' patio roof needed significant repair. The rock roof was new in 2002. Skip to 2022, and not so good. I contacted MZ Roofing for an estimate to replace this with a better product. Marcos provided a couple options, along with quotes. He was more than happy to get a city permit at my request, even though it was probably not required due to the small percentage of the roof. We decided on a TPO-based patio cover with new plywood along the length of the patio plus new facia boards all around the roof. Marcos even came up with a brilliant way to brace up the side facia boards that other contractors did not suggest. Marcos and his crew kept an eye on the weather to be sure to complete the project during a window with no rain. (Very Much Appreciated!) Tear off of the old roof and replacement with new wood was all done in one day. They painted all the wood before it was installed. That alone looked great, but wait, there's more. They arranged for the city to do the initial inspection the next business day, and the crew completed installation of the new roof cover the day after the city inspector provided approval which included replacing a couple rows of matching asphalt shingles the length of the patio roof to seem the two roofs together. A cold rain come through later that week, which provided a great test of the new roof, yet delayed final inspection by a couple of days. There were no leaks, and the rain rolled off the new drip edges just like it should. Final inspection occurred in a couple days. It passed, inspection and looked marvelous from above and below. The crew did a thorough cleanup of the job site, and used special tools to pick up stray nails and staples that fell on the ground and in the grass. They properly disposed of all materials at the local dump. The final invoice matched the quote to the penny. That alone speaks to the integrity of this company. Quality, efficiency, attention to detail, integrity and more describe many of the attributes of the MZ Roofing company. read more

I looked around quite sometime to find someone to replace my Father's roof. I decided on MZ roofing based on reviews, and they were super responsive and willing to accommodate my fathers schedule. They came out and did a professional and good evaluation of the roof. No pressure to go with them, no scare tactics. They basically said here is what we recommend, here is the price and let us know when you are ready. The office communicates quickly and efficiently. They provided options for down payment to be by check or Zelle. I don't recall if they did Venmo, but I used Zelle for the downpayment. With that, they got permits and only wanted to know what color we wanted. They were nice enough to bring samples for my father to see, bc brochures are not always accurate. After the decision on color was made, they went to work within several days, and were done within several days. My father said they were super professional, and their work was amazing. I contacted M Z Roofing on Monday 1/24/22 after another roofing company I had been in contact with since December flaked on me. That afternoon they had someone out to my home to look over the wind and rain damage (from December). Within a day or 2 I received the emailed quotes. I had 3 quotes for different things. After thinking these over for a couple days I decided what I wanted done. They were here at 7Am on Monday 1/31/22 just as promised and got right to work. The communication with this company has been outstanding even with me changing my mind on what I did and didn't want done. Unreliable!! Do not waste time. I had scheduled them to take a look at house that we are in the middle of closing escrow for to get an estimate on repairs. Stephanie confirmed the appointment the day before. I contacted them the day of to get an ETA since the realtors were waiting and she called me back saying the technician was not going to make it there because they were stuck at a job. Mind you, I called them at 1:40 pm and they were scheduled to be out there between 1-2pm. They should have notified way before to let me know that the technician was not going to make it. If I hadn't called, the realtor probably would have been waiting for the technician. I'm not sure they have been in business, but COMMUNICATION is key to running a successful one. read more
