Update: * On April 1, 2025 I entered into a verbal agreement with Edward Torres, CPA PC Tax & Accounting Services for the "xxxxxxxxxxxx" trust taxes to be prepared and filed to the IRS before the 2024 tax due date deadline. * A tax extension was filed by this CPA to the IRS, but the CPA failed to file the taxes by the extension filing date deadline. * At the initial meeting with him I left the previous year tax returns and any other data that I thought would be helpful in completing the preparation/filing of the trust taxes. * At that meeting Mr. Torres requested two additional items/documents, which the trustee (me), later that day I complied and emailed the CPA the two (2) attached documents, that he had requested. * I have the copies of emails that reflects the requested documents were sent to the CPA, and I also have an email acknowledgment/reply from Mr. Torres. * What I believe happened is a matter of plain old incompetency. * Mr. Torres for whatever the reason erred/failed to file taxes on behalf of the trust by the tax deadline. * When I confronted him he chose to tell a bogus story that he needed more information about the beneficiaries of the trust in order to complete the tax filing task. * He blamed me, saying that the taxes were not prepared and filed by him because I neglected to contact him and supply him the documentation that he requested/needed to complete the taxes. * If that were true, why did he not contact me concerning his documentation needs before the tax filing deadline? * Something I would expect any professional to do. * There is no record of any communication between Mr. Torres and me until after the filing deadline had passed. * You would expect that a professional CPA that was charging a total fee of $2500.00 to complete the taxes, would contact the client, reminding/requesting from the client any missing docs. * That did not happen. * As trustee I am also the sole beneficiary of the above trust and he had all my trustee, and beneficiary information including my tax ID number and the original trust documentation to work with/from. * There are no other listed beneficiaries besides me that have any standing. * He also had a copy of the managed fund yearly statements for the tax year of 2024 where every penny of the trust money is invested. * I also provided him with a copy of the previous years tax return that he could use as a template and simply update the data for the 2024 tax year. * All the necessary info was in the previous years tax filing document forms. * Besides capital gains, no money was withdrawn from the trust fund during the year of 2024. * Unfortunately, my dealings with Mr. Torres was like talking to a brick wall, and is one of the most exasperating, frustrating, people I have encountered. * The question is, why did he not contact me to remedy his so called missing docs. * The reason, he just screwed up, forgot about me, and failed to prepare the trust taxes! * That's the reason he didn't contact me. * Mr. Torres attempted to twist my account version, to justify and hide his failure. * If we are to believe his version of this story to be true, (again) "why did he not contact me for the additional documents that he needed?" * At this latest meeting he did offer to complete my taxes but I would still have to pay him $2000.00 for the task which I no longer felt was viable. * Furthermore, I would still be responsible for any tax late fees incurred. * You know the expression "fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me". * I asked for the $500.00 fee back but he refused to give it to me. Filing taxes is a nightmare…read more When I first started working, I would give my tax returns to my parents and they would bring it to their accountant. It would take about 3 weeks or so from handing it off to receiving it back to sign before mailing them to the IRS. Yes, it was snail mail back in the days. Fast forward 10 years or so, moving out and buying my own place, I thought it was be best to find my own accountant rather than having to have my parents do it on my behalf. I was introduced to an accountant through a family member, and he was nice but also very inconvenient. I had to get a ride to get to him and all. It wasn't cheap (at that time) And then there was turbo tax. I was like, wow, this is great, I can file my own taxes and it's cheaper. So I started using turbo tax regularly and it was great. Until one year, I was audited. I was embarrassed and had no one to talk to or ask about it. It wasn't a hefty amount but the fact that I was audited, that was not cool. I paid it and continue to use turbo tax, and each year the questions became more and also more complex. Sorry, I don't know finance terms or anything like that. So I answered it to the best of my knowledge. And then one year, I owed money. I was floored, like how? Embarrassed once again but paid it. So then I decided, I need to find a real actual accountant to talk to. I do not want to owe money and I certainly do no know what was wrong with my taxes. I came across Fast Tax Accounting, located in the heart of Flushing and decided to give him a call. I told him how I owed money to the IRS and I did not know why. He reviews my tax returns and he knew right away what I was doing incorrectly. He instructed me how to correct it, and now I am back to getting a refund once again. THANK YOU JIMMY. So if you are in the market for an accountant, I highly recommend giving this place a try. Jimmy is also young, so he will outlive me, so if you are looking for a long term accountant, he's the one. Also, the price for an accountant wasn't much more than what I was paying using turbo tax. I rather pay the extra to avoid mistakes and the headache of trying to answer all those questions.

Over the past three years, Medows put more preparation burden on his customers (requiring completion of lengthy, convoluted forms which I've never had to prepare for a tax PREPARER before), while complaining that our taxes took a long time to complete. We had to check their work for errors. We learned to expect inaccurate answers and incomplete research when we did have questions - and often completed the research ourselves. He was very helpful when we had a shift in our income/expenditure situation three years ago. Hence two stars. But then our taxes got very simple for two years in a row. A few months ago, I asked for an itemized bill for last year's expenses and/or a fair estimate for this year's work. I was told we were too much work, and it wasn't worth his time to retain us as customers - no answer, no transparency. This is probably par for the course in tax preparation, and there's nothing particularly bad about this service. But there's nothing particularly good either. We'll spend as much time preparing our own taxes this year as we did preparing and checking Medows' work last year, and we'll save $335. For even mildly intrepid souls, I recommend using a tax accountant only when you have a big change in financial circumstances, and in between just use TaxAct.com and a couple of calls to the IRS. It's really not that hard.
