It starts with "oh it'd be a shame to walk past without having a look" soon followed by "I guess there'd be no harm in just trying on a few things" which of course leads to me dragging half of the shop to the fitting room, and ultimately concludes with my debit card being handed over at the till. I cannot resist! The selection of clothes here is just fabulous. Whenever I go to Cow I always take a bucket-full into the fitting room with me, but I'm normally only left with a few things I actually like, however in Sheffield I faced the dilemma of wanting to buy everything I'd picked up - oh dear! This of course, could be purely coincidental. But I like to think it's the result of some clever work going on behind the scenes. Furthermore, the actual amount of selection seems spot on. What I mean is, it's not overwhelmingly cluttered, but neither is it overly selective with not much choice. As for the layout, that seems to strike the balance also. It is neither rough, ready and warehouse-esque (like Birmingham Cow) nor overly generic/high-street (Manchester Cow) i.e. it's totally user friendly whilst retaining its individual quirk. Right on! Pricing here seems to be very reasonable also, most dresses coming in around the £15 mark. I managed to bag myself a minidress and a pair of dungarees for £30 - scwhing. Hmmm what else? Oh...attractive retail assistants? Always a plus.

When you walk in it does not feel like a vintage/2nd hand shop because of the layout and the clothes are like new. To the left of the entrance, sterling silver is showcased at ridiculously cheap prices. This is the only item that they sell new. Everything is catagorised really well too, all the bags together , dresses in one, skirts in another..I managed to pick up a real italian leather skirt for £18! Unfortunately the lining got caught in the zip and ripped ever so slightly so the shopkeeper reduced it to a further £16! I am not sure where/ how they souce their clothing, but even their website is porfessional looking; and even certain clothes are modelled. I would highly recommend coming here, when searching for anything leather and/or bohoish

For me, one thing I hate about TKMaxx is that they tend to resemble a jumble sale, mainly of tatt, but this branch which surprisingly hasn't been reviewed since Qype days eleven years ago is an example for stores in that sense, that becoming more modern, and spacious of course increases customer satisfaction and the overall experience. I didn't find much staff around the shop floor, which was a shame. They had two sets of dressing rooms, I presume for men and women which was handy. The selection was pretty much average for a store of its' size, the location is in Sheffield city centre close to Waterstones in Orchard Square is good too. Pretty much average clothing store, albeit it is one of the best TKMaxx stores I have visited. 3*

Some of the departments feel very claustrophobic and crammed in, whereas other parts feel quite spacious near the atrium. There are several places to pay which is good as it gets really busy and crowded. There are great bargains to be had if you can be bothered to spend the time to look for them.

John Lewis Sheffield - I have seen many JL stores this week this one transports me to a bygone era.

The sales assistant asked where the machine was to be located. He then proceeded to explain why I shouldn't purchase the one I had in mind but that I should buy a cheaper model that was more suited to being in the cold environment it would be located in I.e. the basement. I left the store having spent less than 40% of my original budget. The machine has been delivered, to the basement and they even moved the old broken machine upstairs for me. Excellent service, thank you. Your reputation was correct.

I think a department store should have some sense of specialness - luxury even - is that not what the store is selling in many areas? Beauty - perfume - designer handbags - etc. The "new" ladies loo's on restaurant floor are as I would imagine prison visiting room loos would look. No style - just minimalism - grey brown non colours. Just unpleasant. The Waitrose on Eccy Road has at least a clean shiny floor and new smarter loos. Well done them. I'm off to Handforth John Lewis near Wilmslow to see if they are reining that shop too - I hope not. Its only another 15 minutes from me in the Hoipe Valley and altogether better - so far. Please get the Sheffield Store back on track - there are not many good shops in Sheffield - I will try Atkinsons though as I hear that is nice.

A short walk away from Fargate, Orchard Square and the Cathedral, many shops located here tend to double up over there, which I'd say is the nicer and possibly more "central" part of Sheffield, which is served by more services on the Stagecoach Supertram. Ryman, Sainsbury's, JD, Halifax, EE, Boots, Specsavers and Ann Summer's are just a few of the brands located here, and there is a large Debenhams department store too. Currently, there is construction around the area, making public transportation and bus services in the direct area, a little difficult, forcing you to go a short walk away. Lack of signposting from the dining area to the shops is a big flaw, originally I began to think they weren't interlinked or even near each other, the whole set-up is rather strange in certain areas. Some decent brands here, albeit some of the stores are probably the smaller locations of a certain brand in the city, The Moor does have a selection of places to eat (but those branches I tried are the weaker stores in the chain). 2* based on a central location, having a large Sainsbury's and Debenhams and a cinema.

The Moor is currently being renovated so at the moment, it looks worse than ever with buildings being knocked down all over. The message from the council seems to be that things will get worse before they get better but hopefully, the work will clear out many of the cheap shops and encourage the nicer stores back.
