You can also pick the brain of the Ranger at this office and get info. on conditions up in the mountains (i.e. weather, huckleberry-pickin', forest fires, hiking/skiing info, etc.). Have always met nice staff here. They have a decent gift shop here with lots of books on the local area, as well as maps, stuffed animals (i.e. Smokey the Bear), and postcards. If they are closed, you can always tune your radio to AM1610 for local mountain info as well. Oh, and they also have a restroom here, too.

We always heard about the big horn sheep feeding station, but we never been able to find it until…read morethis past weekend. A nice gentleman directed us to it and the rest is history! This feeding area is located about a mile off of Highway 12, the opposite direction on 410 from the elk feeding station. At the intersection of Highway 12 and Highway 410 where you normally turn left, you turn right and head up old Naches highway. About a mile up on the left-hand side is a parking lot where the bighorn sheep feeding can be observed from. The place is much smaller than the elk feeding ranch, and at least based on our experience, the animals tend to be a lot further away. I suspect that at feeding time they are much closer, But while we were there most of them were a long ways up on the hill. To get a better view, it definitely pays to bring a couple pairs of binoculars. We are excited to go back at a time when the sheep are a little bit closer, and until then we'll continue to enjoy the elk range!

They enjoy making the crafts and meeting other kids around town. They've met some nice friends there for sure! The library staff, Katy and Crystal, are wonderful and they are always happy to help if you have any questions or need help finding a certain book. They also are great about letting you know about happenings around town and with the Yakima Valley Libraries. I am glad that Naches has a library for the community! If you haven't gotten a chance to stop in, do so! It may be a tiny library, but it has so much to offer!

The staff member reading the story was enthusiastic & encouraged the kids to participate with hand gestures & songs. They got to do water color painting afterwards, too. The book checkout process was so simple thanks to the high end computer that just scans the books on its own when you set the stack on there. The staff was friendly as well when greeting us. We have made story time a regular event now :)

Schedules of kids activities, programming classes and other pleasantries were listed at the front desk. More than anything, I was surprised at the number of different sections to relax here. The children's area was bright and had plenty of area to read and be read to, in addition to a half a dozen computers. A number of study carousels are available for those wishing to get their study on, and all include plenty of outlets. Perhaps the coolest area they have here is the fireside reading spot - a few comfy chairs and a place for your coffee! More books that you can shake a stick at and a nice selection of DVDs for rentals. All in all, a lovely spot to read, study or just hang with the kiddos!

But holy smokes, the wind nearly blew me off the bridge!…read more The Vantage Bridge is the second one at this location, which carries Interstate 90 over the Columbia River and joins Vantage with George (and who was clever to name their town George in the state of Washington?). This section of the river is the Wanapum Lake that is formed by the Wanapum Dam that you can't see from the bridge but it's there. This type of bridge is a "through arch bridge" and it has a total length of 2504 feet. It was dedicated in 1962 and is in great condition considering it is 60 years old. There is a "scenic view" spot on the east bank where you can get a great view of the bridge. It was so windy up there that I could barely stand! heading down to the coast for a night of racing and come upon this ridiculous thing in the middle…read moreof the desert. don't get me wrong, I've bridged up here a lot but this span is in its own league entirely... besides being a half-mile long ramp across the river it's got twisty turns on the other end feeding in or leading out or just driving past on Rte 26 heading to Tacoma and by the time I realize how cool it is there's no place to pull over and have a look until next time (getting turned around counts as next time) and realizing there's way too many spots to get a better look at the bridge and sometimes it takes two or several passes which is kind of a good problem to have... totally digging the man-gates on the richland side; the stunted brush and broken terrain brings odd notions about what went on here before the fences got staked... enjoy :-)

We enjoyed looking at the fairy tree they had made with different items to spy. Aside from the nice space, I asked one of the librarians to help me find some beginner books to take home for my older son who is just starting to read. She was very helpful and understood that I needed a variety, and that having some more simple books to build confidence was as important as having some that might challenge him a little. I hadn't thought of that and was grateful for the thought.

They will try and start a fight to get you trespassed. Even when, such created aggravation is averted and they "get it," the fake friendly conversation is data mining. Different is not "variety," that is for books. "Different" is a problem the library doesn't want.
