This salon booked the appointment for 5:30. 4:50 I am in my way to my appointment. I like to be early. To my surprise my phone rings. It was the salon calling asking if I was keeping my appointment. I stated to the lady on the phone that my appointment is set for 5:30. I was in the salon at 5:10. The hair stylist told the lady at the front desk that she didn't have enough time to do my hair. SERIOUSLY!?!? She did not even come out to meet me to know what I needed to be done. I guess in a small town if you charge $50+ for a hair cut you can be a B!$@&. I guess I will go back to the big city and get a big city haircut. Where I don't even mind paying the higher price where they have the decency to come and meet the client and at least have a chat. read more

I have been going to this salon for years happily... But this salon has definitely went down hill.. Which I'm sad to see happen. I went to have my hair done after months of being a new mother and finally getting something done for myself. I booked this appointment weeks in advance... Wanting a long hair cut and balayage. I had notes showing that my hair is down to the bottom of my back and always have when I come in to have it done. I went to see Grace who started in November. She sat me down and got me ready, brushed my hair and all. Then she stops and says I need to check to make sure I will have time for your hair today...then walked away. I was left to wonder what the hell she was talking about knowing I had this appointment booked out forever. She comes back telling me my hair was too long to fit into her work shift......Mind you, getting in for a hair appointment is a long wait and for obvious reasons is absolutely unprofessional and rude to me. I literally was refused service because of my hair length AFTER I BOOKED THIS APPOINTMENT WEEKS AGO AND THEY HAD IT NOTED ON MY HAIR LENGTH! I then was told a manager would call me in the morning to fix this....NEVER HAPPENED. They do not care about their customers, especially ones that have been going there. I will not be returning and I highly recommend finding a different salon to others. read more

After coming back from a long trip, I really needed a good manicure. I began looking online for nail places in Cedar Rapids and one of the first places that came up was Nadia's. I checked out their website, including the services they offered and their prices. It seemed as though hair was their main specialty, but with the way they described their nail services it seemed like they offered quite a good manicure. And for the price tag of $32 + tax, I expected A LOT, especially since it would be the most expensive manicure I've ever gotten. I made an appointment for that day and I was surprised that they were able to schedule me in. When I arrived at Nadia's, I was immediately greeted by a nice woman at the front desk. She took my name and gave me a quick form to fill out. I then handed it back to her and took a quite look around the front retail area (I love Aveda products!). It took only about 5 minutes for my manicurist to greet me and take me back to the nail service area (and it was still 15 minutes before my actual appointment time). The nail service area is somewhat secluded and it has a very relaxed environment. The woman started working on my nails and she was extremely nice and pleasant to talk to and we ended up chatting the whole time. I forgot to bring my OPI nail polish with me, so I chose one of the nail polish colors they had there. While the woman doing my nails was very nice, I don't think she entirely knew what she was doing. I had to ask her to push down my cuticles further and she didn't remove the excess cuticles at all. I thought maybe it was a safety/health policy or something, so I didn't push her to remove them. She did okay at painting my nails, but the worst part is that they began to chip after three days and the nail polish itself didn't dry flat; there were smudges and little bubbles in the polish. Additionally, when I took the polish off my nails, my nails had this horrible yellowish color to them...probably from the polish or base coat. Needless, Nadia's manicures are not worth $32 + tax. The service is well worth it, but the quality is not. It's just too expensive of a manicure for your nails to start chipping in three days and having a yellow tint to them after removal of the polish. So here's the breakdown: PROS: -Wonderful, helpful, caring, and English-speaking staff. -Very relaxing environment. No screaming kids or ringing cell phones. -They use Aveda products. CONS: -Way too expensive and not worth the price (at least for manicures). -They seemed to use cheap nail polishes. -Staff needs better training/practice with giving manicures. read more

I am a big fan of Aveda and in searching for a place to get my hair cut after moving to the Cedar Rapids area, I was delighted to quickly find Nadia's. The stylists who I have had cut and style my hair during my time here have been great - both Dawn and Amanda have listened to what I have wanted and been accommodating. The tea, water, and other beverages offered as I arrive on site always put me at ease, and every time I walk into an Aveda, I am surrounded by the smell of Shampure and feel at home. The environment is welcoming, the salon is clean, and the folks working there know about the products and the ways the products used are all natural. I've also had a facial and it was so relaxing. I left with my skin feeling moisturized. Jennifer listened as I shared my concerns about my skin and made great suggestions about what steps to take next and which products might benefit my skin the most. I never feel pressured to purchase products, but am always told what is used and how I might be able to incorporate it into my daily life. The information about how the water is different in this part of the country helped to determine why my hair felt so damaged each time I've gone in. I expect a lot more from an Aveda salon. I'm not happy at all. I had booked a 5:45pm appointment. It was a long wait before she could get to me as shevtook on another cut. Apparently the poor lady scheduled to do my nails was never told I had an appointment. I had things planned this evening that are now not happening that needed to get done. Perhaps the front desk staff can stay off their cell phones while working the front desk and perhaps have more time to do their job which would include notifying staff of appointments. I have also never been to an Aveda salon where they did not have tea or coffee within minutes. I even came 15 minutes early to get my wax started. So disappointed. Went here for a shellac manicure with my sister and I had a really good experience! Loved the quiet and quaint atmosphere of the mani/pedi room. Tegan did a nice job and my mani lasted about the full two weeks! Quality and clean experience. Only complaint is that the website said the appointment should have taken an hour, and it ended up taking half the time...I don't know why it was so short but if I'm paying $40+ I want to get my time & money's worth. read more

I finally found the best place to get hair done in Iowa! Amanda kills it every time. I have the most awkward hair in the world (seriously) and she has been helping me grow out a messed-up layered mess for about a year now. She also helped me go back to my virgin hair that had its cherry popped about 20 years ago, and I am so glad I don't have to worry about dyeing my hair anymore. She took me from super dark red/brown to my ash blonde in one go and it made my hair healthier. They use Aveda products, and you get a hand massage while you're there; sometimes a neck massage too. Meryshia gave me a fantastic haircut at Nadia's. I'm not from the area and I generally get edgy haircuts and it's really hard to feel confident walking into a new salon. However, Meryshia never hesitated when I said I wanted her to shave half my head, give me a solid fade (which can SUPER hard to get at a salon that mostly does women's hair), and just do what she thought was going to look good and healthy on the other side. She gave me great suggestions according to my hair's growth pattern, answered all of my questions, and gave me a killer fade. All of the women helping me up front were friendly as well. read more

I have been Nadia's twice so far for massages, and I left each time scheduling an appointment for the future. The main lobby is quiet pleasent and well layed out so you can walk in and get to the main desk without brushing against any displays. Its well maintained and very clean. Off to the right is the spa area which is separated by a glass door/wall which keeps the salon noises to its own area, allowing some relaxation in the waiting area. Its small, but so small that you feel cramped. The massage rooms are very well lit, that is softly lit and the massage tables are very comfortable. There is music pumped into the room, but it is kept at a low volume and becomes white noise after a while. The massage itself is pretty darn good. I had never had a theraputic massage before so I dont have a reference point but it certainly helps with my back and shoulders. I get the 60-min full body, so I leave feeling very relaxed and loose. Lastly, the exit. You get plenty of time to re-dress and stretch before walking out. A nice cup of cool water before leaving and you'll find your self wondering where the last hour or so went. After the stylist I went to before left, I was on the hunt for a new one. I decided on Nadia's mostly because of the Aveda association and I've heard good things about this salon. It is small/cozy, but clean and they have all of the Aveda products available. I scheduled a full-head highlight and a hair cut. My stylist was Jasmin and she gave me the best highlight and haircut I have EVER had. I have rather long hair, and always tell the stylists to do some proportionate layers and some longer side-bangs cut where ever it should be in proportion to my hair length and face shape. Usually the cuts have been fine, but "safe" aka boring and simple. But Jasmin totally got what I was after and had the confidence and skill to deliver a great cut. I've never been so enthusiastic and so happy with the final outcome as I was this time. Not only was the haircut amazing and truly the best haircut ever, but the highlight was gorgeous. She used two complimenting shades of blonde instead of just one shade, and it just looks so natural and has such a nice effect. I don't think any other stylist has done that before. Yes the prices are higher, but I am absolutely thrilled with the outcome and to me that is worth the price. I will absolutely be back again and again! read more

I love this place. They use Aveda products, which feel great and smell wonderful. The staff is so friendly and really take the time to focus on you and make sure you're satisfied. I get waxes, haircuts, and massages there, and highly recommend any of those services! It's a little pricey, but on par with the service you get. I wasn't impressed with the facial I received. It was a massage facial verses a deep cleasing facial. I wish they would incorporate more deep cleaning like pore extractions and really looking at my skin and seeing what needs to be done. It was quite expensive for what was offered. read more

If you're in the market for a facial wax move on and look elsewhere. Anytime you go for a facial and the waxing area means putting you at a shampoo bowl, you've gotta know it's trouble. Not only did the wax lady miss a few areas, she spilled wax on me. In the end, I had to reschedule at the local beauty school which ALWAYS does a great job. This past year my stylist left the salon due to a career change, and she was kind enough to refer me to Brittany. I could not be more pleased. I have thick wavy hair, that can be a problem if it is not cut well. Brittany does an excellent job with it. I also recently got foil highlights with Brittany, and she chose a shade that is great with my coloring. Friends have raved about how my hair looks.
