There seems to a nail salon on every street corner specialising in artificial French manicure nail extensions. The problem is that the staff (who in my experience often do not speak much English) will happily file your own nails down to barely nothing before adding the tips. The few times I have ventured into one of these places they are packed and any concerns I've had are either ignored or misunderstood.
Nails 2000 is totally different and although I did not have an appointment the wait was only around 10 minutes. Nothing when I was in desperate need of a manicure. While I waited the calming voice of Nina Simone made her feel already relaxed and slightly pampered. It was clear from the various magazine articles on the wall that this was a popular place for beauty junkies and celebrities.
During my manicure it was refreshing to have a conversation (certainly lacking in many other nail salons) that stretched beyond 'that hurts' or 'oval not square shape please.'
