I didn't use the gym that entire month, which staff acknowledged and knew about. Was threatened to be sent to collections over a month's fee after years of being a member and even hyping the gym on social media at times. The owners true colors came through and I haven't been back since. BRC, movement, other great options where you're humanity is valued along with great climbing! Also have heard from former staff how the owner treats employees that arent white differently. Very unfortunate spoil to the old era of climbing here.

BRC deserves more than the 3.5 average it has right now…read more I can't comment on hearsay about managers or "uninspired" climbs (I am not a route-setter nor do I claim to be one) but BRC is pretty solid. The gym area is really nice, far surpassing The Spot Boulder (the other climbing gym BRC is usually being compared too). And unlike Movement Boulder, BRC has auto-belays so you don't need a partner to rope climb. BRC also has a small lounge area where you could theoretically work from (free WIFI) and free coffee and tea for members every morning until 11am. The biggest downside to BRC I'd say is that it's really a rope-climbing gym. The bouldering area has a lot to be desired if comparing it to The Spot (which in BRC's defense is a bouldering-specific gym). And though there are auto-belays, there's only about 1/2 dozen (I think?) so unless you have a partner to climb with most the climbing is inaccessible to you. On a side note, I do find the crowd at BRC about 20'ish years older than that at The Spot too. I received a free week at BRC after taking one of their belay classes and thoroughly enjoyed my time.

While Movement and The Spot have several gyms within driving distance of each other, the BRC charges nearly the same price for their single location. That means that members here are paying for less product than they would receive at other gyms. Second, the management is bad. The general manger exudes a kind of psycho energy as he stares at climbers through the front desk window. Multiple BRC youth team members have said that the managers make them feel uncomfortable. This has been going on for years and as far as I know they have done nothing to address it. Finally, the climbs at this gym are uninspired. There are a couple talented route setters on their staff, but the majority are inexperienced kids with an inflated sense of importance. It's truly amazing that a company that only needs to set a few routes per week is somehow putting out worse climbs than their competitors with 3x-5x the amount of setting.

They gave us an amazing education but also let us get really involved in the knot tying and belaying. Making my way through ALL the Movement gyms in Colorado! Visited Golden on a random weekday…read moreafternoon, and it was uncharacteristically busy because of the holidays. Staff is great, not just because I know some of the instructors, and there's plenty of parking. I thought the bouldering routes were more challenging than those at other Movement gyms, but they're just holds I'm less used to. Definitely coming back more often, and perhaps next time I'll bring my climbing harness.

The first day we did smaller climbs and concentrated on hardware and safety in Boulder Canyon. The second day we went to El Dorado Canyon and climbed some bigger routes. Two words: Bob's awesome. He's a pioneer in the sport and has climbed all over the world, so he really knows his stuff. He's patient and knowledgable and most of all encouraging. I can only assume that anyone Bob has trained to work for him is the same way. I highly recommend Bob Culp's school if you're looking for a guide in the Boulder area.

When you go in if its your first time thy will make you watch a safety video, but we couldn't even hear it?? So was not totally sure of the point of the video. If you know how to belay, you will need to take a belay test in order to prove your knowledge and then they will mark it in their computer that they have tested you. You also have to do something to be able to use the auto belay but we didn't do any of those so i am not sure what you need to do. They have special clips that you will need to get from the front though to be able to use them. They had 60 ropes with around 120 different climbs and a large bouldering section. This was place was pretty impressive. Though ropes were a little close to each other and there was a LOT of people when we were there. The staff was friendly. Overall we enjoyed our experience. It was a little expensive. $18 a person and that is without gear rental. Hence the 4 stars. It was fun for a treat though and i will probably be back in the future

The ceiling is relatively low (about 1-1/2 stories), and there are two small bouldering walls and a small rock-climbing wall; these look like scaled down versions of the walls in the main facility, and the rocks are much closer together.
