Yal! I cannot even explain how deliciously delectable the food is here! Even if you, like me, are not a "foodie" and are not technically vegetarian or vegan, you will absolutely enjoy your meal. I usually get the Crowder Bowl (subbing out the tofu because well, yuck) and I'm always quite pleased with it. But on my last visit, I decided to take a chance on the featured buffalo cauliflower and chickpea tacos with kale slaw and vegan cream. Yal! YAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! OH. EMMMMM. GEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE. I cannot even begin to explain to you how amazing this tasted. The pictures speak for themselves, but let's just say that this was one of the best vegan dishes I've ever had in this entire city. A veritable feast for the eyes and the taste buds alike. If you ever see this dish on the Specials board, run don't walk to be next in line to try it. It is mmmmm, mmmmmm good!!!

This cafe attached to the MOM's Organic Market is delicious, affordable and all organic. Any of the bowls you order are $8.75, which is a steal for all organic! They have great choices with pre-made mixes that have flavors that are somewhat Asian, Mexican and the like. What's more fun is making your own bowl with choices like kale and spinach for your base, and toppings like green onions, avocado, tomatoes, bell peppers, raw cashews, cucumbers, celery, carrots, beets, cauliflower, sprouts, mushrooms, red onions, etc. So good! They have delicious juices that are also super affordable like Green Tea Glory and Pink Lady. Here, they also have specials like yams with toppings or roasted cauliflower 'steaks', etc. those depend on seasonal produce. They also have in-house made muffins, frozen yogurt and soups. Because it's all vegetarian, it's pretty easy to identify if you can or cannot eat it based on wheat or dairy restrictions. If you are not sure, just ask! The food is in compostable containers, and the forks and utensils are also compostable. If you eat it in the store, there is plenty of seating!

Cauliflower steak salad with no rice

I'll start with the good things: 1. Free and easy parking. 2. Healthy fast food. 3. Healthy inexpensive food, which can be a tough thing to find! 4. Large portions And now the bad: 1. If you want anything to drink besides ginger kombucha or raw juice you will need to pay for your meal and find what you want in the store and get into the grocery line to for it. If you're on your lunch break and pressed for time as I was this can be a little nerve wracking. 2. Very limited menu options for food. I eat paleo and there was nothing on the menu that was paleo friendly, unless you just wanted to drink juice. Everything has grains and there is a lot of tofu. I wound up ordering the cauliflower steak with no rice and extra spinach but was sad when I saw it get covered in probably a solid cup of dressing. It would have been AWESOME if there were an option to simply build your own salad. It was a tasty dish though so I'll give it that.

    Lin bowl!

I came here for lunch with a coworker! We were genuinely surprised by their variety of choices!!! I got the Lin bowl which was delicious. The seaweed and kimchi really added flavor to the whole meal. My colleague got Hannah Bowl which wasn't steamed but the corn and onion added really good sharp flavor to it too! We will be definitely coming back to try to juices.

Quite frankly the best steak I've ever had! A cauliflower steak;). Roasted and seasoned to perfection. The servers were so very patient and proficient. And the lady doing the pressed juices was delightful. Feeling good right now that I fed my body right. Got it to go but next time I'll try to sit and enjoy. Whether you're vegan or not you will enjoy the selection prepared to your liking at Naked Lunch.

Wow blown away by this place. First time here and I got the sushi bowl. It was cheap ($8.75) and extremely generous. The counter staff were incredibly nice and suggest alternatives we might like. I am definitely coming back frequently. Definitely recommend and I'm a stickler for 5 stars

We arrived at 10:10 and the doors were locked. Called the restaurant and an employee said that they'd be open in a few minutes. A few minutes later, a man and an older woman said hi to us and went into a side door. Turns out that was the owner and his mom (the chef). They light incense in the restaurant and the odor is quite strong. I remember on Kitchen Nightmares, Gordon Ramsey yelling at someone for having scented candles because it messes with how the food tastes. Luckily, the food had enough flavor to overcome the incense. We ordered two meat combos and asked for them to give us some variety since I had never tried Ethiopian food before. The dishes came out with 16 items, with only one repeat. I can't really tell you what I ate since there were so many items, but I did really like the chicken and lamb. Very flavorful and just a fun experience from eating with our hands and the variety of options. One combo can easily feed two people. For our two adults and two kids, we had enough for leftovers. Honey wine was not my favorite thing, but the rest of the dining experience was very memorable. We were the only customers, so the owner came out and chatted with us for a while. Very friendly.

July 2026: My wife and I recently ordered takeout from Daru after not having been in a few years…read moreand were pleased to find that it was just as outstanding at it was three years ago. We shared the malai paneer lasagna, which was rich, creamy, and flavorful. I got the murgh makhani as my main dish and it was fantastic-perfectly cooked, great flavor, amazing portion size, and creamy. I highly recommend Daru and look forward to returning! February 2023: An absolutely outstanding experience from start to finish in every way. Daru is the rare restaurant to exceed the tremendous hype it has. My friend and my amazing experience started the day before, when Daru asked us if anyone in our party had any food restrictions, which my friend did. When we arrived for our weeknight reservation, we were seated immediately. What distinguishes Daru from almost anywhere I've been is that our server gave us a paper menu with the dishes my friend could eat based on the listed dietary restrictions starred-above and beyond service. The rest of our service was similarly excellent, with our server making some excellent recommendations that allowed us to try the dishes we wanted and additional dishes in the most cost-efficient way. Our dishes were delivered in a timely manner and the meal itself was extremely affordable. Daru adds an automatic 20% charge to all checks and tells you on the menu; our experience was worth all of that gratuity. The food itself was incredible-a modernist take on Indian cuisine. Everything my friend and I had was good and ranged from fine to incredible. I recommend sharing 4-5 small and large plates per two people like my friend and I did to enjoy as many dishes as possible. Black Dal Burrata-my least favorite dish of the evening, but still fine. The lentils could have had a bit more flavor and the dish needed a side of rice, but the burrata was rich and creamy. Bread basket: The za'atar naan was fine but no need to order it, as the garlic naan was outstanding. The parota was good but needed more butter or oil. Chutneys and sauces: My favorites were the sour cherry chutney, the chimichurri, and tomato-szechuan. I love spicy food but the habenero-kashimir chili overwhelmed overwhelmed any other flavors. Blue Cheese Reshmi Kebab-One of Daru's most recommended and unique dishes, it lives up to the hype. The chicken was well-cooked, the cashew provides crunch, the cheese umami, and the sour cherry sauce complemented everything perfectly. Striped Bass Paturi: Simply outstanding. Perfectly cooked fish with good spice, greens, and creaminess. Some of the best bass I've ever had. I highly recommend Daru for your next special occasion and make sure to book well in advance if you want a reservation between 6-9 PM-there are many reasons Daru is this popular! Things to note: 1. Daru is small and it can be hard to hear at times. 2. The surrounding neighborhood isn't the safest-I would recommend not coming alone at night and taking a rideshare after dark if possible (avoid public transit and parking nearby) 3. The lot next to Daru is currently a construction zone, so you may see a rat or two if you are at Daru after dark and sitting by the window. This is beyond Daru's control; something to note for the next few months if you go there.

Walking in you are hit with a warm dim lit environment. Intimate, quaint with well appointed tables. We elected to sit at the bar and Matthew the bartender immediately welcomed us with an unforgettable experience. We tried a few red wine options and at that moment were not thrilled with the selection. We pivoted to the Colaba Cabana and the flavors did a happy dance going down so much that my date ordered one as well. Matthew was so well informed on the menu and suggested the murgh makhani, their close take to butter chicken, and the wild mushroom biryani with a side of garlic naan. The murgh makhani was flavorful with the chicken cooked perfectly, however the star of the show and my date's favorite was the biryani. It was brought out encased in a dome of naan which amplified the anticipation. Matthew cut it open and we were free to dig in. The accompaniment of the dill and celery raita topped with fig and a few pomegranate seeds married together the flavors in the most magical way. We saved room for dessert and the Gulab Jamun arrived with a candle to celebrate my birthday. The fried dough was cooked well and served alongside the most decadent cardamom ice cream. Sitting at the edge of the bar where we could see each other made this feel like a first date all over again. Impressionable, intimate, and exactly what a birthday night deserves. While others were at the bar alongside us, the environment did not welcome a community feel and we were not going for that. Sometimes you want a date night where you simply engage and enjoy each other. This place embodied that. Matthew was our experience dealer from start to finish. He boxed up our meal and bid us farewell as we were off to our next surprise adventure. Daru delivered a table, actually a bar, worth gathering at.

The restaurant was only about half full, with many empty tables available, so this was surprising and did not make me feel particularly welcome. Throughout my visit, many staff members were speaking loudly to each other in Spanish, making it difficult to enjoy the atmosphere or even hear the background music. My server, however, was courteous and provided good service. As for the food, the ground beef in the Soltani was very good, but the Barg was slightly burnt and chewy. Since the meal took some time to arrive, I felt rushed to finish eating before the stated 6:15 PM deadline. For a restaurant where customers are paying premium prices, being pressured to eat quickly is not an experience I would expect or appreciate. I hope this location can improve its customer experience, as I have had much better visits at other locations.
