Why isn't this place packed every night?! I was lucky enough to sneak in before closing time on a recent trip to DC and was blown away by the service and quality of the food. The chicken Caesar salad was amazing--I would be happy to eat that on a regular basis. On my visit I learned that they sometimes shut down the kitchen early if business is slow, so you should call them to confirm that they are open if you're going close to closing time. Although I didn't partake of them, the desserts looked incredible. Another time, perhaps.
"That's gonna be a no from me, dawg!" The service was very good, even though the faux chicken sandwich patty I ordered was small and didn't merit the $17 price tag. The fries for $2 were plentiful, but it didn't seem to balance out. Unseasoned, unsalted fries. I wish they put the ingredients of the chicken patty. I had no idea what I was biting into. It tasted weird and super dry. It also stunk like a gas leak inside. They kept having to tell customers it's the pizza place downstairs. It was also hot as heck inside. I figured their AC was busted but they actually only switched it on when more customers came in. I selected this restaurant since they participate in the InKind network but I don't intend to return.

I was in Dupont yesterday, doing apartment hunting. As the day started to wind down, I walked across this beautiful little nook, with folks coming in at opening time for dinner. The staff were kind enough to accommodate me, despite not having a reservation. The seating inside was very clean and reminiscent of an Art Deco era or possibly having a Jazz club feel to it. As a former vegan for one year and growing up with vegetarian parents, I've tried a variety of plant-based foods - I was accompanied by my father on this dinner - we were certainly looking forward to critiquing this place. We ordered a few things off the menu: Bucatini and meatballs, Grilled vegetable bowl, Mocha with oat milk, NY style cheese cake and a chocolate mousse cake. Firstly, the pasta sauce was savory and delicious, very fresh tomatoes, noodles were thick and had the perfect bite, and the meatballs were moist and flavorful. Both the salad, which had come complementary, and the grilled vegetable bowl, were the perfect contrast to the hearty entree. The combination of the earthy eggplant and italian peppers, and the smooth and zesty house vinaigrette, felt like a symphony. It's what other salad places are trying so hard to be. The balance, healthiness and taste of these dishes were so satisfying. It's rare that I don't feel like adding anything more to a dish. The chef has certainly curated these meals to perfection. Moreover, the food came out almost instantaneously and the staff were experienced and attentive. Also, I like trying coffee and desserts, wherever I go. It gives me an equal playing field to compare places. I took these to go - the coffee was one of the best Mocha's I've had - the cakes were also very upscale - a great ending to an ever greater meal. Overall, we left the restaurant feeling rejuvenated and enjoyed the experience. Highly recommend this place to vegans and non-vegans alike, and can't wait to try DC Vegan again soon!
I will start by saying I am not vegan but have been to a good selection of vegan restaurants and this is by far the most mediocre. I ordered the calamari and the Buffalo cauliflower. Neither of these were even warm. Calamari was whatever and the cauliflower was fine but I like Buffalo sauce and that is really the only reason. At the table there was also a burrito and French toast, a bowl and pancakes. The burrito was a disaster that both people who ordered it struggled to eat as it immediately falls apart. The pancakes were the only thing that looked like maybe was tasty. Mind you all of this is way over priced like appetizers in the 20 dollar range. Service was also some of the worst, server was rude and irritated from the start and had to ask repeatedly for simple things like forks, and my coffee which took about 20 minutes for some reason. I will say the one vegan at the table does like this spot and comes kinda regularly.
Absolutely loved the food here. Walked in on a chilly fall night and the atmosphere here was so cozy and welcoming. The mushroom calamari was light, crispy, perfectly seasoned and not greasy at all. The wedding soup had amazing depth and flavor and was full of fresh vegetables and herbs. So so so comforting. Blessed that such great place exists. Hope I can visit again soon! Service was prompt and attentive too.
Pro-tip - get one of everything! The menu is pretty extensive and everything was so good! The cheeseboard was so fun, the artichoke sandwich was delicious, and even though I didn't save room for dessert, I'm glad I got it to go. It's pretty small inside, but wasn't too busy with an early reservation. Come hungry!
Incredible vegan food tucked away upstairs in DuPont circle. The food is so good - and so many varieties. We loved the lasagne and the eggplant rolatini but honestly everything that came past us from the kitchen looked amazing. We treated ourselves to vegan cheesecake and unlike the normal dessert - weren't left with a sugar rush/crash. Service was lovely and friendly. The ambiance is sweet and I especially loved the cute antique looking china dishes.
Complete Vegan Place in DC. Ordered the Lasagna which came with side salad. The salad was yummy. Although the lasagna seemed very tangy due to the marinara sauce on top which didn't match my taste. It wasn't worth 32$. They had a small seating and reservation is required. Small restaurant which is pretty packed .
Any time I travel, scoping out the best food, particularly vegan, is on the priority list. I was craving vegan brunch and decided to stop in to DC Vegan as it was only about a 15 min. walk from my hotel. Staff - I was greeted immediately and sat promptly. The woman who waited on me throughout my dining experience was very pleasant. I overheard her greet everyone with "hey friend/s" which warmed my heart. Food - Let's start with the king trumpet calamari; it literally blew me away! I enjoyed this more than real calamari, which says a lot considering it's one of my favorite appetizers. The batter, the crunch, the marinara, the parm - 10s across the board. I also had the breakfast wrap which unfortunately, left more to desire. I enjoyed the breakfast potatoes that accompanied the dish but the wrap itself lacked flavor. I also really appreciated the standard offering of bottled sparkling or still water. All in all, I'd certainly return to try more menu items and at the absolute least, order more of that delicious king trumpet calamari!

I am not Vegan except for a few lunches a week. But I loved your restaurant! I came down to DC from the NY area to help my daughter who is Vegan. I can't remember his name but he has blondish hair and he was so friendly. He guided me as I ordered take out and reminded me about using the InKind app which saved us some money. The food was absolutely delicious and the Tiramisu tasted just like the non-Vegan version. We will be back and my daughter loves to get food from your place. The food was so so so so delicious. This is one of the better vegan restaurants I've tried for American food! Everything they had emulated their meat cousin very well. From the cauliflower wings, chicken sandwich and meatball sub. Its very filling too, we had this for lunch and was too full to even eat dinner! read more

My family and I were staying in DC right near DC Vegan. You better believe I made multiple visits there. We first visited during the late afternoon "brunch" menu time of day. My wife ordered a bowl with scrambled tofu, bacon, home fries, sausage and sauteed peppers and onions. The bowl comes with an aioli that my wife asked for without. We both felt this dish was a bit on the salty side. Perhaps the aioli cuts down on that? I ordered essentially the same thing as a burrito (Breakfast Wrap). It did not have bacon or sauteed veggies but everything else was the same. I preferred the bowl as the tortilla was gluten free. Different texture than I'm used to with my regular flour tortillas. I also ordered an appetizer of buffalo cauliflower (really good texture and flavor) and a mocha (excellent flavor). The next day I returned and ordered a pumpkin whoopie pie, latte and French Toast. The highlight of everything I tried, definitely the French toast. It features caramelized baked french toast with powdered sugar, whipped cream, seasonal fruit and maple syrup. The caramelized texture was great! The flavors meshed well and did not feel too terribly sweet. I loved having the freedom at DC Vegan to order anything on the menu without worrying about vegan substitutions. I wish I had more time because there was so much more I wanted to try. Definitely not cheap. Spent well over a hundred dollars during my two visits. read more

I loved every single thing I ate at DC Vegan! They do an amazing job of making the favorite foods that we know and love in a healthy and sustainable way. The service and recommendations were spot on and the menu options plentiful. This is a fantastic place to eat if you want to eat well and eat tasty. read more
The staff was nice, but the food was just okay. They had empty tables the whole time we were there, but they were all reserved (and stayed empty the whole time). We had to order to go but it took SO long to get the one sandwich we ordered. The fries weren't great and were too salty - I love salt so if I'm saying that they're definitely too salty. The jackfruit sandwich wasn't very exciting. We also weren't aware that the side of fries cost extra - they just asked if we wanted fries or a salad. read more

I am vegan. The food here is hearty and generous. The fried "calamari" rings and oyster mushrooms Rockefeller are very clever and delicious. The aged cashew cheeses in their deli is of good selection, too. Service is prompt and the staff is knowledgeable about what's in the food. The decor is nice. Hip, dark. read more

I came in on a slow afternoon. The woman in front greeted me right away as I navigated through the menu. I decided to have a seat to check out the scene. It was clean and there were plenty of seats available at the time(which quickly changed once dinner started!) There were so many options, but I was too early for the dinner menu. The staff recommended the calamari and that was amazing! I also got a salad which was super good as well! Ended my meal with some canolis and coffee. Great service and a great seat by the window made for a lovely lunch! I would definitely come back to try some other options, but that calamari will always be apart of my order. read more
Im not vegan but I was in the area looking for some healthy food options and decided to try DC Vegan. I was pleasantly surprised at how good my meal was! The portions were quite large and everything tasted delicious and fresh. The cashier was patient as I decided on what to order and my food came out relatively quickly. I took my food to go but there is room to dine in if you'd like. The restaurant itself is pretty cozy and calm. I will definitely be back to try more of their menu! read more
with a few people recomending this vegan place i wanted to like this place a lot but was pretty disappointed. When we got there there they were only doing Takeout foe their outdoor patio which is a bit of a bumber but understandable. I ordered a jackfruit Philly and when I placed the order he asked if I wanted fries or salad as if it was one or the other and not an additional charge. So a single sandwhich before tip was about $22. 45 minutes later the sandwich was ready. Since it was to go I was waiting near the register the whole time while my wife was outside which made it a long 45 minutes. After sitting down to eat it we were disappointed as well. The fries were pretty airy didn't have the texture or flavor we were hoping for and the Philly was salty as well. The Philly itself wasn't bad but also wasn't too memorable which was disappointing. All in all I was expecting a lot more. read more

Every time I come here, the staff is so friendly and knowledgeable. It feels like a chill hang out spot and the food is always fantastic. I got an oat milk latte with vanilla and it was made just right. I would suggest the King Trumpet calamari as a starter. This dish is fantastic. A nice crunch with the taste of calamari flavor. The desserts are fantastic and we try a new one every time. read more

Amazing vegan food, good portions, great service and lovely location. Loved sitting on the balcony and eating while people watching! Do give the place a try... loved the Bacon and Ginger beer the most.. food was nutritious, filling and fresh. Great job DC Vegan.. keep up the good work. read more

I am on a mission to experience every vegan restaurant in DC, and so far this one is vying for the first spot. When I went in, the owner was being interviewed to be featured on a local news program. I started with dessert lol, because I couldn't wait until my food was prepared to get started. The cheesecake was not that good. The best part was the whipped cream. NY Style Cheesecake: C- I'm glad I started with dessert because the rest of my meal completely turned things around and blew me away. Calamari (minus parmesan): exceptional! Squeezed the lemon and did not even need the sauce. Amazing! A+ Fried Artichoke bowl: also exceptional! Nothing needed to be added or taken away. I are every last bit of it. A+ Purchased the Cavi-art (which is not made in-house) and have not tried it yet. So far this is my favorite vegan restaurant in DC. Let's see if anyone can top DC Vegan?? read more

OVERALL: As a non-vegan I was shocked by how delicious the food was. It tasted like the real thing! FOOD: I had the calamari, lemon ricotta pancakes, and bacon. Upstairs I got a cheesecake. The calamari was flavorful and had the right texture. The pancakes were my favorite and filling. The bacon was the only miss for me as they were too salty. And the cheesecake tasted just like regular cheesecake I was shocked. The food was so good! I will definitely come back to try the rest of the menu. SERVICE: the staff was super friendly and helpful. Always attentive and made the experience great. VENUE: there are two levels. The downstairs is newer and is where you have the main dining room and a bar. The upstairs has some seating and an outdoor dining area as well as the bakery with vegan cheese! The decorations were super cute and festive. Dim lighting created a great atmosphere. read more

Came here for dessert after a meal - split the vegan raspberry cheesecake and hot chocolate with my friend. It's one of my first time patronizing a vegan place. Not quite sure if I would have the cheesecake again as it seems to be mixture of tofu, soy beans, and sugar? Couldn't quite put a finger to it but the service was good and the staff is really nice. The hot chocolate tastes like almond milk but wondering about what other ingredients were used in it to create the milky texture / taste. read more
I took my husband here for Father's Day. We were looking for a vegan restaurant that we hadn't been to before and I came across this one. It's a cute little spot. The environment is kinda hippie-ish. The service was good considering it was a holiday. The food was good when I first got my dish it was cold. However, not only was it remade, the owner came over and apologized and also gave us the delicious Nachos!! Overall, it was a good find and I would go back. I went for brunch this morning and it did not disappoint. I had a reservation and was seated right away. We sat upstairs and the vibe was chill. I had the potato skins, buffalo cauliflower, and the meatball sub. I haven't had potato skins in years and these were really good. The buffalo cauliflower was probably some of the best I've had in DC. The meatball sub was so freaking good. I have no idea what the meatballs were made out of but they were so flavorful. Everything was delicious and I was stuffed. I would absolutely repeat my order. My mom had the chickn club and said it was good. She also had cannolis and really enjoyed them. I didn't like the pumpkin cheesecake I had because it wasn't sweet enough. Next time I'll get the cannolis! read more
I love it! From the drink to the dessert it was a fabulous dining experience. Waiter was really knowledgeable and helpful. They have a new set up on the first floor, the botanical bar, that is very lovely inside and great for dates. There was a strange smell inside that reminded me of my cats veterinarian office. Maybe they use the same cleaning supplies. I loved my drink, photosynthesis, which was gin based. It honestly tasted like a refreshing healthy tea, I couldn't taste the alcohol at all. I actually felt hydrated from it. The night I dined, they had the oyster Rockefeller as a special starter. It has oyster mushrooms and spinach served on toasted bread. Amazing! So delectable. I'm told they serve it for brunch as well. My friend had the eggplant rollatini, which was tasty. I had the tofu Marsala, which was so delicious. So many mushrooms, lots of mashed potatoes. The sauce is not too thick and very complementary to the tofu. They served both entrees with a side of grilled broccoli rabe. The finale was the chocolate mousse cake. I thought it was a bit underwhelming and not a lot of mousse. But a huge portion. Despite my critiques, I think most chocolate cake lovers would enjoy this dessert. read more

The service was great, attentive but not overwhelming, and the food was delicious. I had the Chesapeake fritters with mashed potatoes and slaw with a strawberry Negroni. Everything was absolutely phenomenal and I would absolutely go back each time I'm in town. I would be prepared to spend some money but it's well worth it. read more
Love this place! The vibes are very cozy and chill. Good music playing. The food is amazing. The service is great. I got the jackfruit Philly. Ordered a side salad but they gave me fries at first. So I got fries AND a salad lol. Everything was tasty. It might be fun to turn the Philly into a French Philly and make it dipped. But otherwise no notes. :) will be back read more
