Having had several excellent takeaways from Nakodar the misses and I found ourselves without the kids for the night and decided to give it a try. It was everything we could hope for, great decor, excellent staff and the food was excellent. Would have to put it in my top 5 in Glasgow. Not to mention the walled beer garden out the back and the Banksy in the lane behind. Definitely worth a detour to find this wee gem. read more

Lovely indian restaurant located just off duke street in the east end of Glasgow. Visited here several times and the staff are attentive without being intrusive and the food is delicious. They often have specials on midweek where you get 2 mains for the price of one between set times so its worth having a look to see as these deals have to be prebooked. read more

This review is purely based on the takeaway service as I haven't eaten in the restaurant yet. But what a service! The takeaway part is upstairs and the feeling as soon as you enter and climb the stairs is that this is a classy place. The decor is deep reds and very lush. You order your takeaway from the barman at the small bar upstairs and then can't help but order a wee G&T or two while you wait for your food, sitting in antique furniture beside a cosy fire. Sexy Laetitia Guilbaud original canvases adorn the walls and are available to buy. Also, a bit of a curiosity this one, there is a framed bare brick section of a wall containing a stencilled rat which some say is a Bansky. Nice of them to leave it open to view after their refurbishment. All in all I was actually disappointed when my food was ready as I was rather too comfy in my seat and comfortable surroundings...and could have had one last drink for the road... Oh, by the way the food is fantastic ;) I shall return soon to check out the restaurant. read more

Our "regular" Indian takeaway had become really bland so we asked Twitter where they recommended and heard back to try here. Funnily enough it was in our old neighborhood but still delivered to our area. For starters we had chicken pakora, paneer pakora, Poppadoms with chutney & spiced onions. The pakora was really good & fresh and came with three sauces one of which was minty (all had coriander so I couldn't try). I went for a Makhani which was lovely and my husband loved his spicy curry (I can't remember what it was called!) Nakodar is definitely a higher standard than the average Indian takeaway and the paneer pakora on its own makes it well worth it! UPDATE: They no longer deliver to my area--SOB! read more

I've walked by Nakodar for 3 years and thought to myself 'wonder what that's like' and I'm so glad I wasn't disappointed. That was seriously one of the best curry's I've had. I'm quite picky about my food, and squeamish about certain things and if no worries here. We didn't have a reservation - no problem! The staff were friendly and unlike other similar places, they didn't ask us every two minutes if we were OK. The restaurant was clean, and busy but not noisy. The menu was just the right size - sometimes 12 pages of options causes for confusion. Well done Nakodar - you're my new local! read more

THE best Indian restaurant I have ever visited in Scotland! Whether eating in the cosy restaurant or ordering a takeaway for the perfect night in, I honestly can't find a fault with Nakodar. Let's talk starters first off. I love haggis. I love pakora. So the genius that thought of adding haggis pakora to the menu will get a massive hug off me if I ever meet them. Starter portions are large so best to share so you don't fill up before the mains (you're going to want to make sure you are fit to eat every bite). Be warned however that the popadoms and mango chutney on the table when you arrive is charged. We helped ourselves to just one each before our mains (at this point they took them away) and we're charged £2. As for choosing a main course - I'm still working my way through the menu and haven't found something I have not liked yet. The lamb chasni and dansak are both spot on. The one dish I just keep going l back to however is the chicken makhani massala. Don't go anywhere near if you're counting calories - it's creamy goodness to the max. If you're a fan of mild dishes, don't miss this one. In fact, stop reading and just go now. I'm away to place another order. read more

Absolutely amazing. Best service from Aiesha, best food, and amazing value at lunch. The red lentil dish and chicken curry were standouts. We came two days in a row and delayed driving to Edinburgh just to come a second day. Scottish tablet ice cream was a fabulous surprise. read more

How lucky am I to have Nakodar Grill as my local Indian restaurant and takeaway? One of the city's finest Indian's, award-winners, and reasonably priced too. What more could you want? Well, great pre-theatre deals for a start is especially welcome, both in the restaurant and take-away. The restaurant features authentic clay ovens too. Anyway, last Saturday night I had promised to cook dinner for my visiting family... after an afternoon of deciding the menu, then attempting to source ingredients, I soon decided a take-away from Nakodar was a FAR better idea! Less stressful, and more quality family time... well that was my justification anyway! A few currys (Dupiaza, Karahi, Jaipuri), daal cake, two rice, a peshwari and a garlic naan, popadoms, dips, spiced onions, and chicken pakora were duly ordered, and ready for pickup in half an hour, with change from £35 - amazing value. The take-away part is upstairs, and separate from the main restaurant. It's beautifully decorated and has a bar and seating area to enjoy a drink and game of chess or draughts while waiting on your order. The service is fast, professional and friendly. While waiting a few minutes to collect the order, I was mesmerised by the efficiency of the staff, taking telephone, web and counter orders, serving drinks, and remembering everyone's name was impressive. Needless to say the quality of the food was first class. Authentic, delicious, piping hot, generous portions. Choc-full of tender meat and chunky veg, with non-oily flavour-packed sauces, yum. The pakora portion was ridiculously large, enough for 5 people as a starter. And the naans were some of the best I've had. This was the third time I've had take-away from Nakodar Grill, and its been awesome each time. Look forward to eating in the restaurant some time soon. In summary; awesome food, well priced, special offers, great service. A real gem tucked away just off Duke Street in Dennistoun, the city's hippest neighbourhood! Right was gonna give this place 5 stars...however due to the streaming eyes endured by the smoke off the tandoor ovens I knocked a star off. However don't let that put you off. Amazing indians (although in a strange place of the city) One of the best Indian meals I have had. The food here is defo authentic. The haggis and aubergine pakoras are delish. Would recommend the Lamb Tikka Karahi. The staff are attentive and know their stuff. Ask them about any dish on their menu and they will tell you all you need to know. Bill for 6 just shy of £160 (includingdrinks....pretty damn good for the quality of the grub . Would seriously advise my fellow Yelpers to give this place a go. :) read more

This place has been a family favourite for us for a number of years, even though its no longer my local I still travel out to the Nakodar. The menu has a diverse selection but not overwhelming, allowing for trying new things or revisiting old favourites. The food is fresh and flavoursome, and I would say some of the best Indian cusine I have had in Glasgow. This was the first time I had been for lunch however, the portion size was smaller and perfect for lunch time, with the affordable prices adjusted accordingly. Some of the highlights I would recommend are, the haggis pakora, the kishmiri, the korma is excellent and the peshwari nan is the best I've had. The atmosphere is welcoming and the staff are friendly, approachable and are keen to give you a good customer experience. read more

This is by far hands down theeee best indian resteraunt i have been to i have been here on many occasions as its 10 mins tops up the road the staff are super friendly and its a relaxed welcomed feel throughout your visit. The food is to die for my personal favourite to start with is chilli chicken the dish is beautifully presented colourful and the chicken wow just melts in your mouth aswell as that spicy kick to it. The currys are to die for i have had a few from here and its very hard to pick a favourite but i will let you know a secret i HATED lamb until i tried it here and well lets say i am now a lamb lover ao take that anyway you wish. If your ever in the east end around Duke Street give it a try guys the lunch time menus are very generous for the quality of the food. read more

This is a really lovely little gem just off Duke Street which has a take a way service upstairs from the main dining room. We ordered a starter to share, 1 mixed tandoori grill, 1 chicken tikka grill, 1 desert, a bottle of wine and a pint of Staropramen and the bill came to just under £60. The mixed grill comes with rice and naan bread which at £17.95 you would expect so. I thought the service and food was great although if you are mega hungry the portions might be a bit on the short side. (maybe we should have got a starter each) The only gripe I hear is that the place has somewhat priced itself too high for "Dennistoun" but what competition do they have at this standard in the locale? The place was busy and the owner Johnny seems a really good guy that will take time to chat and takes a real pride in his establishment. If ovens is your thing their tandoori oven is the only two of three of a kind in Scotland which are situated front of house. Good chill out restraunt with a mixture of people. read more

I absoultely love this restaurant! My friends and I eat here on probably a monthly basis, the food is consistently tasty and well proportioned. Service is prompt, very freindly and welcoming. As others have mentioned the tandoori meats are great, the naans excellent! Nakodari lamb, chicken tikka saag and the haggis pakora are favourites that we order every time. Highly recommended! It's been 3yrs since I've been back to this establishment and it's still as delicious as I remember. The staff have always been and are STILL attentive and very nice. I love having the bit of crisps (?) on the table to start with the mango chutney and sweet onion mixture chutney. I am not sure what it's called, and should have asked but it was so good and you don't get that on the tables at the Indian restaurants in California. Although I love their seekh kebab (?) I went for the Nakodar mixed grill this time(£17) to get a taste of a bit of everything. I think it's a pretty nice deal too considering it comes with the basmati rice and tandoori naan. For starters though, we ordered our favorite, the haggis pakora. Still the BEST version of haggis I've EVER had. The garlic naan was warm and very good as well. Over all, still an amazing Indian restaurant, and while this will be my 8th trip to glasgow, and only my 4th visit to Nakodar, this is still, in my opinion, the ONLY place to go for great Indian food and a beautiful date setting. Yep I have eaten there twice...I am vegetarian so it was good to see many options on the menu. I had the Daal cakes and the chick pea poori...both lovely...oh and the pakora... The Paneer tikka was scrumptious....In fact there is something for everyone on the menu here. The portions do not look huge but with only a starter, a main course and a bit of a nan I was well and trully stuffed and lets face it, we eat too much in the west anyway. The problem with us Glasgwegians is that we expect heaving plates that leave us fit to burst, or leave huge amounts of wasted food. Lovely atmosphere in this restaurant and there is a beer garden out the back for the summer and the smokers...I think they even got a screen out there for the football once..The staff are very attentive and the decor is well chosen...a modern variation of the traditional indian restaurant...the music is also indian and makes a good background noise...but turn it down lads!...staff are a young team so I think they like it blaring a bit but where very courteous when asked to lower the volume....It is pricey for Dennistoun but so what? It is a restaurant, they have bills and staff to pay and Dennistoun is slowly seeing a return to the classy area that it used to be...I am old enough to remember the lovely little shops and character that Duke street used to have...Let it creep back and let us eat curry! read more
