    Mango lassi, delicious!
    Emily Z.

I can only speak for the mango lassi (just got it as a quick treat), but it was a fair portion and really delicious! They don't do take away though which sucked but they were really fast about it!

bargain vegetarian vegan curry, moments from buchanan st. delicious.
    Jules M.

I'd read that a significant number of vegetarian & vegan options were available on Rishis menu, so we made a bee-line there for lunch. That it was in such close proximity to Buchanan Street was a pleasant surprise. Not far to walk from the subway. We were in for a treat. Slightly below street level on Bath Street, Rishis Indian Aroma has something of a split personality. The dining area to the front of the restaurant has something of a basic cafe vibe with wipe-clean paper tablecloths and comfy chairs, while the main body of the place has a smarter look - the cosy booth seating & candelabras hint that it may have been an Italian restaurant in a previous life. We were seated near the front window at a wee table for two. I'm not really familiar with Southern Indian cuisine so expected to be at a bit of a loss when choosing what to eat. The lunchtime menu left us none the wiser. It was extremely vague and made no sense at all. The addition of a brief explanation at the bottom of the menu would make a world of difference. After much deliberation we asked the waiter for some clarification and discovered that we could choose any chicken or vegetable curry dish from the a la carte menu to be part of our lunchtime special option. The choices sounded pretty decent. We both opted for a vegetarian dish - each was served with a bowl of rice and a naan bread between two. We chose well! I couldn't manage dessert but my hungry daughter pushed the boat out and had what looked like a south asian version of a knickerbocker glory. Very good it was too. I'm told it had rosewater flavoured milk, vermicelli, fresh fruits, ice-cream, and tapioca seeds whatever they are! I think we were the only diners not eating dosas for lunch. I've not tried them before but they looked pretty amazing and came with all manner of dips. My appetite has definitely been whetted and a return to Rishis is on the cards. Think we'll throw caution to the wind and be a bit more adventurous next time. I just wish the menu gave a little more information for those who are clueless of this region's cuisine. The lunch bill for two people (papadom, curry, rice, shared naan, one dessert and two half pint glasses of coke) came to less than £19. Bargain! Exit two very full & happy bunnies.

Our dosas (or tosai in Malay) were massive and super good!!!

I honestly want to eat here every single day ...... boy does this place remind me of home!!! Why did I take so long to visit Rishi's!!! From the outside, Rishi's looks tacky and downright strange, but don't be fooled by what you see. This place is filled with South Indian awesomeness! We were seated by the friendliest staff members ever. And quickly, while skimming through the menu, I knew what I wanted. TOSAIIIII (or dosa for non-Malaysians). So, I ordered Roast Paper Dosa (Roti tisu in Malay), Bindhi fry (which is an okra curry) with chapati, and papadoms on the side. Gian had a different dosa with spicy fillings (don't remember the name), a mild paneer (also don't remember the name APOLOGIES) with naan bread and some Cobra beer. First of all ... fuuuuuuuuuuuuuu I honestly didn't realize the portions would be so massive! I was SO full by the time I finished my dosa that I was struggling to finish my okra, which devastated me because it's so super delicious. However, that means we have leftovers for dinner the next day WOOHOO! Hehe. Secondly, everything was AWESOME! I loved everything we ordered. Really reminds me of food back home and it made my cry happy tears on the inside! I am SO going back more often! Gonna try the lunch next time! We also ordered a traditional Indian dessert which looked like shrimp roe but tasted sweet like chai latte. By then, Gian and I were really marathoning through the dessert. We were so full omg. Altogether, everything came up to 18quids per person. It's a bit pricey but we did kinda over-order, thinking that the portions wouldn't be that big! OUR MISTAKE! We will order moderately from now on. But it was worth splurging because seriously, the food is super super super good! Staff are amazing and friendly, always joking with us. :-) Highly recommend and definitely going back asap!

Lunch - a Tiffin selection including the (not so) Mini Masala Dosa
    Alan N.

Specialising in the culinary delights of Southern India, Rishi's offer an incredible value lunch for something, "a bit different". With a friendly greeting and chilled Cobra on the table, we set about ordering the food. Naturally they have a full a la carte menu, but we opted for the lunch options. There are currently 5 to choose from ranging from a startling £3.99 (for the takeaway offering) to £6.99. 2 of our party went with option 3 - a large Poppadum, Veg or Chicken Curry, Naan and Pilau Rice. They both chose the Chicken Curry, one who likes the milder sauce of Chicken Patia with Ground Spices, Red Cayenne Peppers, Jaggery, Vinegar & Lemon for a Sweet n' Sour taste. The other had the waiter's recommendation of an authentic South Indian dish, Chicken Chettinad including Ground Coconut, Curry Leaves, Fennel & Sesame Seeds amongst other ingredients in a lovely medium spiced sauce. Myself and another decided upon Option 1 which is a mini Tiffin banquet. Sort of like Indian Tapas. The selection presented for the price is astonishing. It included; Idli - Steamed Rice Cakes made with Rice Flour and Urid Dal Medhu Vadai - Fried Doughnuts made with Urid Dal, Ginger, Onion, Curry Leaves & Green Chilli. They were served with a selection of chutneys & sambar. Poori Masala - Deep Fried Puffed Wheat Bread with Potato Masala. Finally, there was the "Mini" Masala Dosa which if it's the mini one, I'd like to see its Mum! I've added a couple of pics so you can appreciate the size - substantial is the word. The Dosa is like a thin filled pancake South Indian style. In this case with the Potato Masala. All in all, this option offers a great taste of Southern India and I'm delighted I chose it. I think upon return, I'll try to persuade some lucky person to share both number 3 with Chicken Chettinad and number 1 together. That would be a feast. All options selected came with Tea / Coffee and I had the Chai, which was a great way to end the meal. Staff were friendly and engaging.

From the outside Rishis does not look like its offering anything special however inside the story is different. Offering delicious South Indian fare with generous and hospitable staff--- Rishis is sure to not disappoint. The chilli fish fry, any type of dosa and their tandoori chicken are stand out dishes for me. Don't miss out on their fruit juice Thurvini. Rishis offers a fantastic lunch deal which is great value for money. My only disappointment was their chai as I was hoping for more flavour:

If you feel like punishing your mouth or inflicting real pain on your taste buds, then I would suggest a visit to Rishi's Indian Aroma is for you! It's certainly an assault on the senses but in a very good way. These guys DO NOT hold back on the chili so if you like it hot and spicy this restaurant has got to feature on your list of go-to places. Being a South Indian restaurant the flavours are often more aromatic and fragrant than the northern dishes we have been accustomed to in the UK. As mentioned these guys love their chili's so be prepared to drink a barrel load of beer or perhaps a cooling yoghurt based, mango lassi to keep the tongue from catching fire ;) As the South of India is famed for its vegetarian dishes, I usually try and keep it fairly traditional when I've been, usually opting for the Gobi Manchurian to start. This dish is simply stunning even if you don't like cauliflower. It's almost Chinese in flavour with a fried chicken-esque appearance, it's one of the tastiest starters I've ever eaten in an Indian restaurant and I find it really hard to overlook this great wee dish. Equally awesome are the veg samosa, and at a mere £3 for 3 they're such a steal. Once more, those of you who don't like too much heat should think twice about ordering these super hot starters. Main dishes again are generally, on the whole, wickedly hot and there are loads of great veggy dishes to choose from (but fear not meat fans, there are also a good selection of chicken and lamb dishes too). They do smaller tiffen style portions (i.e. smaller mains), so you can have a few between the table or if you don't like to share, you can opt for the traditional curries. I've had both the meat curries like the Chicken Kadai and veggy ones like Channa Masala. Everything has always been fresh tasting and incredibly good value for money. Think around £5-6 for a veggy main, its astounding really! I feel that when I walk into Rishi's and I'm virtually the only Brit eating in there, its got to be a good sign. It really does seem to be a favourite place of the local Indian residents and students. The staff are also all mainly from the South of India and will make great recommendations if you are unsure on what to order. Rishi's is such a friendly place, with incredible tasting food and astonishing value for money. This means that it has to be one of my favourite curry spots in Glasgow and that is saying something for a city which boast some top notch curry houses!

Rishi's on Bath Street is more casual than I was expecting, but the food exceeded all my expectations. We were greeted at the door and seated by the window. Being a basement restaurant we were in prime position for people watching. I was concerned however: we were the only people in the restaurant (at 6.45pm) and we weren't getting any attention from the staff. They seated us, and they left. After some time, say at least 10 minutes, someone came to take our orders - food, as well as drinks. I was slightly confused by this and the only way I can really describe it is as though the staff were too shy to come over to talk to us. After the ice was broken, the service definitely improved. By this stage, the restaurant was filling up - what a relief! We ordered the chicken 65 and Mysore masala dosa for starters (under the tiffin section). The chicken 65 was very similar to pakora but with a crispier outside. The dosa was huge and filled with potatoes with a few dipping sauces. I loved this and would definitely try another one of the many dosas's (dosi?) on the menu next time. For mains, we had chicken tikka masala and lamb kadai with two sides of butter naan. The lamb kadai was definitely medium spicy which was a bit too hot for me, but the lamb was juicy and tasty. The chicken tikka masala was great too - a nice punch of flavour without being too creamy or rich. We opted not to go for dessert as that was a pretty filling meal. Apart from the slightly uneasy service, I had a really pleasant meal here. Once the restaurant filled up it had a nice atmosphere and there was an interesting mix of people eating here. The menu was pretty detailed - there is a big selection of starters, tiffin as well as lamb/chicken mains and some seafood. Even better, this meal didn't make me feel sick afterwards. Normally I avoid eating Indian food as too often there is something (whether it be a spice or the ghee) that doesn't agree with me, and I feel sick for the rest of the night. Thankfully there was just a pleasant "full" feeling upon leaving Rishi's. We'll definitely be back.

Thankyou Briony for introducing me to Rishis on my Yelp Secret Dining Club experience. You really could not have chosen a more perfect venue for me. I had heard good things about Rishis from fellow Yelpers but had not yet made it in. Indian food is one of my most favourite things (in the whole wide world ever) so I was thrilled when Briony revealed we would be heading here. Walking in to Rishis, the decor is unfussy and understated. The staff were pleasant, but the food was outstanding! There was six of us sharing our Secret Dining Club experience, and we were all happy to share, so we got to try a really good variety of dishes. To start I had the Shish kebab which was beautifully spiced and the lamb was lovely and succulent. From the other starters the standout dish for me was the Chicken Manjurian which was delicious and melt in the mouth tender! On to the main course, I went for Chicken Saag. This was one of the nicest Chicken Saags I have had, the sauce was beautifully thick and sumptuous with spinach and the portion was plentiful. From the other Yelpers choices I LOVED the Butter Chicken Dopiaza, if you like a creamy dish without it being too heavy then this is the perfect dish for you. The Naan breads were brilliant. I ordered a Butter Naan (my mouth is now watering as I type) which was dreamy soft and velvety with butter. The Peshwari Naan was really lovely too, with just the right amount of filling to keep it light and fluffy! This is a truly excellent city centre Indian restaurant, which has just taken top of my list of favourite restaurants in Glasgow. Can't wait to go back!

    Holy **** batman! A 6ft "family dosa"! £20 though...

I liked rishis for a number of reasons, but it's not my favourite Glasgow curry house and thus I probably won't be back (mainly due to there being HUNDREDS of other choices I still need to try). Firstly the beer was good, and at £3.25 a pint for Cobra or Kingfisher this was a good bargain. Secondly the starter I had, chili chicken fry was really good-almost like a curry in itself and with a nice kick to it as authentic South Indian cooking should have. My main wasn't that great, I had lamb vindaloo and to be honest I wasn't expecting a grey sauce which was pretty unappetising. It tasted fine though albeit lacking in heat sadly. Overall it's a good place and caters for large grounds very well. One thing to watch out for is the dosa... (I've uploaded a photo of the family size) which is the speciality here. The deals offered on the website are great value for money too.

Shish Kebab. Well seasoned with a tasty sauce

Came along here as part of a Yelp Secret Dining club visit and I'm glad we did, as I may have found one of my new favourite Indians in Glasgow! I've walked past here so many times without visiting (maybe it being a downstairs place put me off) but that won't be the case any longer as it was brilliant. Walking in, the decor is quite traditional curry house, nothing too flash or modern. Where we sat had a sort of UV light which gave the table a strange glow. On to the food. The menu is huge. This usually puts me off places, I'm always a believer in keep it simple, I never find places can provide so many different tasting dishes without a bit of similarity kicking in. This really is not the case here! We all decided to order something different, and try a bit of each. To start there was a great selection of different tasting dishes. Special mentions to the Medu Vada, which was like a lentil donut (odd I know), a strange one, but it was pretty tasty. The dosa in here is HUGE! It's like a crepe on steroids, it's crazy! Very tasty and at such a big portion, would easily do as a lunch item. I ordered the chicken manchurian which was very tasty. It's made with soy sauce which gave it a sweet flavour, but with the chillis and onion through, there was still a bit of a spicy kick. For main, I went for the chicken kadai which was delicious. Quite a tomato-y based sauce, but with nice spicy flavours through it too, a tasty medium curry. I tasted all the other curries at the table which were lovely, especially the saag which tasted so fresh. The sides of rice and naan were very good too. The service I found to be very polite, if a little bit persistent. Food arrived in good time as did the drinks. I think this is a great place to head in town if you are out with friends or a casual meal. The menu is so big you're bound to find at least 8 things you want. I'll be back soon to try even more off the menu, may take a LOT of visits to taste everything but!

Methu Vadai starter (with a piece already stolen by impatient, hungry fingers)
    Rebecca D.

I'd heard great things about Rishi's so decided to visit for date night. Although we hadn't booked we were quickly shown to a table, handed menus and a drinks order was taken. We were instantly made to feel right at home by the friendly and attentive waiting staff. Soon we'd ordered a starter of Methu Vadai to share. These are little savoury doughnuts made of lentils, onions and spices and they were delicious served with a sambar and a yogurt dip. They were crispy on the outside, soft and fluffy in the middle and, since you get two pieces they were perfect for sharing. It's not something I've ordered before but I'd definitely try them again. We decided to get a rice and a naan to share for our main course and my partner chose the Lamb Kadai whilst I chose a Lamb Kofta dish I forget the exact name of. He loved the Kadai, saying the tomato flavours were amazing and I really, really loved the koftas. They were a little unusual, with the minced lamb wrapped around a boiled egg, rather than just being plain meatballs. I guess it's a bit like an Indian version of a Scotch egg. Again, it wasn't something I'd had before but it really worked and everything was cooked beautifully. So, it turns out the good things I'd heard were all true. Rishi's didn't fail to impress and I'm sure we'll be back.

When you arrive, you are met with what I can only describe as a manky curtain - something that would normally really annoy me, but I totally forgive them.. Once you get past that you're presented with a surprisingly large, and very sleekly decked out, restaurant. There's all sorts of deals on here for bento boxes and lunch deals. But the full menu is also very reasonably priced. I had the ramen Chilli chicken. And oh my God! It was easily the best I've ever had. Very, very spicy. But sweet. And full of peppers and perfectly cooked chicken. My friend had the chicken katsu curry - and again, said it was the best he'd had. The staff were super cheery and really helpful. For 2 mains and 2 cokes the bill came to less than £24. I sinceriously can't wait to go back for more.

This was one of the first restaurants I dined at in Glasgow with my now husband after our fateful meeting in Japan, so it is very special to the both of us. I'd hopped on a plane to the other side of the world to visit a man I'd known for 14 days, fell in love and moved here. We've returned here loads of times since then, but I haven't been to Nanakusa for nearly a year. In my endless quest of eating out as many places in Glasgow as possible, sometimes the real gems get left behind for the new and exciting places. I was so glad to return last night for a UYE and see that nothing has changed since I first fell in love with Nanakusa (I was already in love with my husband by the time we ate here!) Now, Nanakusa. It does Japanese food, and it does it really well (see the aforementioned reference to meeting my husband in Japan!). I really love sashimi and there aren't enough places in Glasgow that I can eat it, so I always get a portion when I eat here. I also love takoyaki (octopus balls) and can't resist them here. I've tried them elsewhere but Nanakusa's are the best. The service is always friendly, smiling and helpful. It was a little slow last night but there were only two people working the whole restaurant, but none of us were in a particular hurry. I had a small glass of rosé with my meal and they also have a selection of saké and plum wines, as well as Japanese beers for that really authentic taste. The food arrived quickly and as soon as it was ready. Two people had ordered bento boxes and these arrived about 5 minutes after everything else. The waiter seemed really conscious of this and kept coming over which was a nice touch. I loved all my dishes, the takoyaki and salmon sashimi and I also had the chicken teriyaki. Sides like rice and noodles are optional which is great if you're all about the protein. Downsides? As I said, service was a bit slow. I'm also not a big fan of the lighting (the wall panels change colour) as it makes it hard to take nice food photos! Haha! Bench seating can be difficult to navigate getting in and out of gracefully. None of these points are worthy of a star deduction in my mind though as the food is so damn good, I can excuse it all. Thanks Nanakusa for being just as amazing as you were 4 years ago.

As we usually went in the evening we always found we were in the minority of caucasian folks and I always wondered why. We found out that this Nando's caters for Muslims so therefore the meat is Halal. Ahhh, all explained! It was always very very busy too but we could always get a seat no problem. As of late I have been going with work folks for lunch, with a less busy, noisy atmosphere. If you haven't been before, you are seated with a menu, check the number of your table and then head up the tills, a bit like a posh McDonalds. Give them your number then order what dish you would like. The restaurant is chicken based but does have beef and veggie dishes on there too. I tend to order a single ckicken breast fillet either in a pitta or wrap with extra cheese and pineapple. I unfortunately cannae handle the heat of the spice so tend to stay with the lemon and herb or mango and lime. You can also have 1 or 2 sides like chips, coleslaw, spicy rice or corn on the cob etc. I do also love to get a cheeky wee order of grilled halloumi cheese. Yuuuuuuum! I have found that they don't always have it when I go in, so I get very excited if they have it, as it's super delicious. Since I have been going back to this branch I have always found something wrong, maybe I'm nitpicking but there's never any forks and you have to wait to get some, staff are a bit slow, in the sense we had to wait a while to get a seat on my last visit, there was loads of staff behind the counter but none of the shop floor. I think they do quite a lot of take away orders at lunch time. Not sure how it works but they were getting a few phone calls while I was up ordering my meal. Och, also the ice machine was broken. Meh! I do like the ickle crushed up ice. Apart from the niggles I do like Nando's. I also have a Nando's Card which is only available in Scotland. You collect your chillies online, through your registered card and then you can get free food. It's a bit better than the loyalty stamp card they used to have as you could only redeem for a 1/2 or full chicken, now you can redeem for appeteasers, wraps, pittas and burgers and also the 1/2 and full chicken. It's the same Nando's decor but I do like it. If you've not been I would advise you go and try. It's much much better than a KFC and not too expensive. Can't wait to start redeeming my chillies to get my free food.
